I haven't watched or been a part of Convo since leaving campus several years ago and forgot how much I missed it.

However, JRJr just threw Rocco under the bus unintentionally... he finished mentioning some tragic news over Christmas break and asked the crowd to continue to prayer for their families. He then said, roughly, "We did have some good news over break... our head football coach left."

Well done, JF! Well done!

I have been debating what Rocco's Legacy will be on the MTN. It hasent gotten off to a good start. Which is kind of disheartening.

He quit to keep his image fresh. If he had stayed here having to start over after not making the playoffs with what was bascially the climax season of what he built, you can be sure his name would not have come up in future coaching searches of bigger schools. And given the opportunity to be viewed as "turning around a program" at a place that has won an NC just a few years ago? I think it was a no brainer given his aspirations. Luckily it worked out for us too.

He did quit.

I am not really upset because I think its for the best and he brought us as far as he could and I am appreciative for that, but to say anything different then he quit is simply not accurate in my opinion.

Agreed with both, and that's basically my opinion of DR. I do think TG is a HUGE upgrade.

Keeping this on topic of "convo", TG has said approximately 50 words ever in convo and they included scripture. Just wondering how often did DR speak in convo, and how often did his words include scripture? Not that it means less of DR to not use scripture, just curious.

no offense but that's shortsighted.

there's no question he's one of the best coaches we ever had. Any of us that watched suffered as the program stagnated in the early 2000's has to admit that.

the dude walked in here and turned the whole thing around. We wouldnt be THINKING of going FBS without him. Let alone the fieldhouse and stadium expansion. We went from national goat (not GOAT) to a respected I-AA program in 4 years.

did he max his potential here? probably. God speed to him.

and now its time to take the next step.

I have spoken.

I am on board with you that DR is one of the greatest coaches in LU history, and I suffered through some of those terrible years.

Please help me understand.

I stated that is was disheartening to see DR's legacy and how we remember and honor him around LU take a turn for a tarnished legacy with the comments of the chancelor.

How is this shortsighted? Is it because DR's legacy cannot be built in one day, and that one comment about him in convo will not determine how DR is remembered around here? If so, I get it.

The legacy is just off to a rough start.

exactly. at least, thats what I meant. I suppose we shall see tho...

and in reality, only a incredibly small percentage of LU fans/alumni were in that convo and heard that. The vast majority of us dont interact with the school (at least on-campus) from day to day, and have a different perspective on this stuff. I was proud to support LU, DR and LUFB, and will be proud to support LU, TG, and LUFB going forward.

I am over analyzing probably, but the metaphorical ball that is DR's Legacy didnt get rolling in the correct direction.

Now all of Flamefans knows about those comments made.

Yeah, I just heard about this on here for the first time. Way to go RI... jk jk

Rocco had a HUGE impact on the program, and made his mark in LU history books. I think his legacy around here will be ok. Everyone who went to games under him from 2006-2010 has great memories of the things he accomplished and the direction the program took under his leadership, and hopefully those will dominate his legacy.

Ok, just so its clear for all here is the video of what happened:

http://media.liberty.edu/ryyzj

Obviously there is no disrespect at all...lets not do a media spin job and turn this into a story that doesnt exist. Obviously it was funny and we should all joke about it, but lets just make sure those that just glance at the site dont think this was a serious shot or something.

The whole Chapman situation did it for me. Yeah, thanks for building up the program but maybe now we'll actually win games when we need to.
