Nice work Joe! D.Ward needs to learn the difference between a 5* and 3* recruit though! lol!
Perhaps it was 2 stars from one organization and 3 from another.

2 stars + 3 stars = 5 stars

LU needs to make a formal offer to 2 local recruits from down in Gretna. If they let these 2 get away to another school, they will have made a big error in recruiting. I think Miller could help LU next season as a true freshman at wide receiver.

We have a habit (a bad one IMO) of neglecting local talent in our major sports.

This is what...the third time youve brought up your boys down in Gretna...we know...theyd be immediate impact players here...theyre really good (which I agree with...I worked with the Gretna radio broadcasters...that team is BEAST)...I already told you that your best bet would be to email Coach Skalaski (I dont know if Coach Gill has a direct email as of yet) sooner rather than later. I think that might help their chances as opposed to continually posting about it here where chances are the coaches wont see it

Just back from meeting w/ LU football coach Turner Gill. 4 mid-year transfers for Flames, though 2 were grayshirts from last year's class.
The big name is Butte JC transfer DT Jibrille Fewell. Also enrolled are WR Donte Shells, LB Zach Erickson (grayshirts) and DL Max Sommer.
Sommer is a 6-4, 245 DL from Germany, continuing the pipeline that produced Paco Varol, Francis Bah.
Spring practice will begin Thurs., March 22. Spring game Sat., April 21 at Williams Stadium. Read more in tomorrow's N&A.

One of the apparent reasons for the debacle at KU was that Gill was using players that didn't fit his systems. I guess there's 2 classes worth of his guys, but who knows if anybody else would fit.

These players can transfer to another FBS squad without sitting out a year, correct?

Interesting... I would think if you were released by a new coach you would be able to transfer anywhere without sitting out.

i think you have to ask to be released. you can get your scholarship pulled which i guess could be considered released but you still have to sit if you go sideways or up in divisions. i could be totally wrong, but i think i'm right.

Getting your scholarship release allows you to go somewhere else. If to FBS, you have to sit one year. You can use a redshirt year, if you have one, otherwise you lose one year of playing time. If FCS, you can play without sitting. In the Big XII-2-2+2=? if you transfer in the league you sit 2 years (league rule). If you transfer up from FCS to FBS you also have to sit a year.

IIRC

Isn't that late for the spring game? They only have a limited amount of practices in spring (20 i think) and to have the game almost a month after spring ball opens makes me think that they will be doing a lot of film work and weight work in between practices.

Never said it was. Mentioned those two because they're still active on the team. Wrede, Wendland came before them.

That's when we've had it for the past six years.

Update on Jordan Webb ...
KU Student Newspaper wrote:Vernon: A forgotten quarterback’s understated exit

By Mike Vernon
Tuesday, January 24, 2012

On Nov. 27, 2011, former Kansas quarterback Jordan Webb cried after his final goodbye to Turner Gill.

It’s easy to see why Webb wept. He had just lost his football coach. And perhaps he knew that it wouldn’t be long until he lost more.

Nearly two months later, on Jan. 16, Charlie Weis announced that Webb would no longer play football for Kansas. Weis said it was a voluntary decision and that Webb would remain a student at the University.

In other words, a two-year starting quarterback at a Division I school who showed vast improvement between his freshman and sophomore seasons voluntarily stopped playing football.

In other words, it sounds like he is finishing up his undergrad degree this spring allowing him to transfer a la Russell Wilson to another FBS school this summer. Either way, he's someone we would probably be wise to track.

Mentioned him earlier and he hasn't shown any interest yet in Liberty but we need to keep an eye on Mike Minter Jr. If Neb offers we probably don't have a chance but if they don't maybe he'd like to play for dad? With what he's got for offers I'm sure we could find him a place to play.

Here's a little piece about him being excited for Neb Jr day.
As with Banderas, the Minter name strikes a chord with Husker fans.

The elder Mike Minter not only was a key part of two national championship Husker teams in 1994 and 1995, but also played 10 years in the NFL as a safety for the Carolina Panthers.

Now his son has attracted the attention of some noteworthy programs after running for more than 1,700 yards as a running back, and picking off five passes as a defensive back for North Star last fall.

Listed at 6-1, 170 pounds last fall, Minter Jr. said he wants to continue to bulk up. But even at his current size, North Star coach Mark Waller said Minter's physicality makes an impression on those who see him play.

"He's a young man that doesn't weigh a lot but brings a lot to the game in terms of toughness and aggressiveness," Waller said. "I know that's what Nebraska likes about him."

South Carolina, Purdue and Kansas have already offered Minter, and the recruit said Oregon and Tennessee have also shown strong interest.

But it's the school he plans to visit Saturday that seems to excite him above the rest.

"I'm excited for this," Minter said of weekend ahead. "To be honest, if they did offer me, I would probably commit."
