Some think it is a personal thing with JB...no I just think this again exposed his image over substance leadership that has hurt our programs. My wife is a great interior decorator if JLFjr gave her the $$$ he has JB she could build facilities and definitely make better hires.

Community members in my circles mock us on how no other instate program would let that happen. He tarnished the department over trying to beat SBU and should be gone.

Since when is it a new thing that some in the community talk bad about Liberty? I think it has been explained in an understandable way. Let it go!

As far as Barber and "Win at any Cost", I dont buy it. I think He and JFLJR both are well above that. Naive is not the right word, but its the best I can come up with. Things will be handled differently in similar circumstances in the future. They have Flamefans.com to answer to, and LUAlumni, and God.
Now that, I'll agree with.

This sounds like it was strictly a decision that Rocco made... which I think ultimately was the issue. Somebody with authority should have perked up and said this is a bad decision and made sure Chapman never saw the field again until charges were dropped.

Asa didn't hold up to his end of the bargain that he agreed to when coming to Liberty. Unfortunately, I don't think Liberty held up end either.

A couple of more thought after reading.

An athlete is the face of the University. You couldn't name 3 RAs. But if an RA, someone no one knows, had the same circumstances they would be removed from their leadership position. Why is it too much of a reach to think the same standard should be applied to someone out in the community?

Im too lazy to look it up but whoever brought up Nebraska I think has a great point. Lawrence Phillips was a blip for the most part (they also had Christian Petr we had Eric Green) but not indicative of the program or school as a whole. I think this fits our situation the best.

I agree. The thing that sets Liberty apart from Miami at this point is the fact that there, situations like this are a regular part of the culture and reputation of the football program (adam did you not see the 30 for 30 special on "the U"?). This is only the second major "scandal" (and that may even be a reach to use that term) involving an athlete in the 40 year history of this university. Though its an unfortunate situation and its natural to have people disagree with how it was handled, at the end of the day, everyone involved with addressing the situation (from an executive administration standpoint), handled things about as well as they could have handled it. Adam, if you still want to distance yourself from the school now that things have been explained, that is your prerogative.

i have four kids ages range from 25 to 12, you try to raise them right and let them know what is and isn't allowed and cross your fingers and hope they listen. but kids screw up and cost you money and embarrassment sometimes, just a fact of life.

i would really like to put all the blame on DR just for the fact of him leaving, but with the new coaching staff. the bad taste in my mouth is becoming a little easier to deal with.

i'm in no position to say whether it was the right decision or the wrong decision. just the sound of the charges put so much light on the subject as opposed to being pulled over and finding beer in your possession and you are under age. both are wrong and illegal but a felony kicks it up a few more notches on the radar.

i am very appreciative of the fact that LU is willing to give you the opportunity to help yourself if that's what you want. NICK is 19 years old and living away from direct supervision of MR & MRS drill sergeant. is he gonna do and act how he would if we were around, i would hope so but probably not. i was 19 at one time myself, and the taste of freedom is delicious. but knowing that one stupid mistake doesn't guarantee that you are thrown to the wolfs makes me feel a little better. [ LU and the police would be the least of nicks worries ]

SORRY FOR THE RAMBLING, HERE IS WHAT I STARTED TO POST BEFORE I HAD MY SENIOR MOMENT.

[ not defending DR, just my thoughts ] everybody kinda thought ASA had a shot at going pro, what if all the information that DR could gather came from ASA and maybe his lawyer. both parties tell DR it's all BS everything is going to be dismissed and cleared up. DR starts thinking, do i make this kid miss his final season and the possibility of ending his dream of the NFL on something i'm not 100% sure of other than what i have been told. he pretty much put himself out there, from the info i have if i let him play and things go south it all comes back on me and the school.from the info i have if i keep him out and everything turns out ok i screwed the kid because the NCAA doesn't give LEGAL RED SHIRTS. DR had way more to lose at LU than ASA did. of course he could have been thinking if i let ASA play and we get in the playoffs and we win a game or 2 i will get a million dollar contract offer from an FBS school. as much as it pains me i want to believe it was based on my first theory. unfortunately we will never know for sure

ASA probably had a million things running around in his head at the time he took the plea agreement. it would be a major decision to have to make even though you feel you are innocent. spending a ton of money and dragging your family and school through more publicity. pretty sure their have been quit a few innocent people put behind bars just because they drew the wrong jury.
fight it, possible jail time. take a plea and get on with your life. he will carry the plea the rest of his life. 10 years from now fans and people associated with liberty will have to be reminded of the situation, assuming somebody remembers . i only met ASA a few times but i personally wish him well.

i would wager the house that most of the people that are still ticked over the situation were cheering ASA on for every tackle he made and game he helped us win. he is still the same kid that did or didn't do something that has brought some negativity to LU. i may not be as spiritual as i should be, but they say god does everything for a reason. i feel gods big picture allowed for a few speed bumps along the way.

i'm sure i have a bunch of miss spelled words and my punctuation points are all wrong. so i will apologize in advance. there wasn't any crime drama shows on tv so i thought i would murder the english language tonight. lol. i'm sure their will be people that go completely against what i said and that is fine. everybody is entitled to say what they want. i probably won't come back on here to debate what i have said because this is how i feel. plus my two index fingers are tired from typing all this. typed more on this one post than i have all the other ones put together. I think you wrote exactly what many of us were thinking. Frankly I cannot wait to put the whole episode in the rearview mirror and focus on the new era of LU football.

Fixed it for you. And by the way TOC, are you so ignorant to the fact of the unpublished things that happened under your friend, RD? And I don't mean this to be a slap to RD but when you have kids at a school who do not necessarily line up with the views of the school, they're are going to be instances like this. It happens. It is not a problem that plagues the university.
So how about the unpublished things that happen(ed) under Toman? Or Rocco? Or Layer?

Also, I wonder how this situation with Asa would be viewed if Rocco was still the HC.

Bottom Line: There is no new information as to why Asa was reinstated, and because of that it was still a mistake to do so.

If it is on Rocco, then I am glad he is gone, however we all know the mountains has politics and passing blame is the norm given the size of our university. That is starting to occur more and more on the mountain where too many top level management types are passing the blame because they do not want to own up to their mistakes. Sounds like LU needs a revival.
