Last I heard the contracts hadn't been signed. But that hadn't stopped me from looking into a trip to Missoula in September. I'm giving it serious consideration if in fact this does happen.

With a new coach arriving, nothing is written in stone in regard to scheduling. And with the Griz, we would have a deadly non-conference schedule.

With such a tough schedule, we will be in great position for a new coach. WE get a great new coach we win some tough non-conference games, see what this new guy is made of (who ever he is), win conference. Shot if Stony Brooke has a strong Schedule and plays well maybe even get two teams from the BSC in the playoffs. BSC will be a stronger conference next year with Prysb moving up.

That is correct. And preferably it would be an easy win at home against an FCS counter. How is that for a specific request?

For the record, as of Wednesday the Montana was indicating that no contracts had been signed ...

I really believe we need to relax about this possibility until paperwork is signed. I guarantee you that the school will send out a release if and when it occurs. But frankly they are probably focused on other matters at the moment.

This would be awesome.

Having said that you dont think players would say that just to get us talking right? :D

Now that someone said it out loud, yes, this is what has been alluded to for the past two months now.

The return trip from Montana wouldn't be until 2015, from what I've heard.

hey now, dont take such a fatalistic approach BYD. this certainly does upgrade our 2012 schedule and Im sure that JB is making sure that the contract is set up so that it can be honored by all parties involved (i.e. sizable buyout clause on both ends)

Return trips on any schedules the next couple of years are shaky for just about every game due to realignment. But i wouldn't dismiss the possibility completely out of hand particularly if we have FBS status by then.

If its 2015 then a buyout likely wouldn't matter. We would likely be the ones getting out of the game due to realignment, so why would Montana buyout? In my opinion we could really get royally screwed by signing this contract, we'd go to Missoula next year and then WE would have to buyout the 2015 game. No lower-level FBS team in their right mind is going to play Montana.

Although I'd imagine there would be an out clause in the case of realignment.

I still think this would be a really good opportunity to see where we truly match up against the top FCS opponents.

I'm all for this, even if we get "screwed".

Like Sly said, I'd imagine that this is on hold for the time being. It'll be interesting to see if a 1st year coach would want to take such an aggressive approach.

What's so aggressive about it? It's a chance to play with the big boys. And if we get crushed, then we'll learn from it and move on.

You become the best by playing the best. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I agree and some coaches would look at it that way, but some may not want to play Norfolk State, Montana, and Lehigh. Some coaches may look for a "guaranteed" win elsewhere.

Haha just trying to be realistic. I'd rather play MAC football or something comparable then play Montana in 2015.

I doubt Montana will look to go FBS, but if any time is the time it's now.

They already turned down the WAC last year, so I'm betting they're fine where they are for the time being.

I understand your point. It's just from my perspective, unless we won all 3 games, we aren't making the playoffs without winning the conference anyway.

It is a fantastic venue that is nearly always filled to the brim. They average right around 29k per game.

They're between 25-26k per game. 25448 last year and 25662 this year.

Their playoff games have had 22005 and 23049 this year.

29k might be difficult to stuff into a place with an official capacity of 25,217 without a fire marshal losing his mind.

I try to be useful to this site, so if Montana came here in 2015, wouldn't that be the year that phase 3 is supposed to be finish? (the horseshoe).

So my thinking is, Montana is coming so we can open it up with a great game to have our best crowd ever.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
