Now you have a winning record every year. Yes you did not make the play offs, but go get another coach who is willing to Coach at Liberty and you will be at the bottom of the Big South every year. First of all, all you people out their who are saying you need a new coach have probably not played football or coached football a day in your life, except for maybe youth football which does not count. So if anyone replies to this thread in a negative way, who has not coached or played at the college level your thoughts shouldn't even be heard, because you have no idea. As for anyone else, go ahead. You don't know how much effort it takes to run a college program especially to have winning seasons every year. Coach Rocco works 18 hours a day for your school and you treat him like this. Great Christians you are!

I enjoyed reading the responses from Sly and others. I'm not near as mannerly as they are and this is one of the dumbest statements I have seen. First off, he isn't the best coach that we will ever get at Liberty. Unless you're God, and I'm assuming that you aren't, there's absolutely no way to predict that. I appreciate what Rocco has done for the program, but that doesn't hide that we aren't where we want to be in terms of success. When we were winning one or two games a year, all of us would have given almost anything to win 6 to 7 games a year. However, once this athletic department and the alumni saw the potential of the football program, they decided to invest. Rocco was given a really nice contract, our stadium was renovated to become one of the nicest in the country and the football facilities were renovated. The point is that a lot of people have invested a ton of money into this football program. Those investments never would have been made and should have never been made if someone's vision wasn't a really big successful football team. It's like investing your money into a company. You would research everything about that company before you bought their stock. If you then bought it and it fell below your expectations for a certain period, you would then sell it.
Rocco is making somewhere around $250,000 a year to make this program be really successful. If we're paying him, then we have the right to call him out despite our football experience. Anyone who would be classified as paying him would be anyone who has contributed anything to the school. Furthermore, just because some don't have any football experience doesn't mean they aren't a credible source. For example, Bill Bellicheck(spelling) had almost no previous football experience before he got into coaching. Look at how he's faired. Roger Goodell has never coached or played a game in his life, yet he makes credible football decisions every day. Almost half of the people at ESPN have absolutely no prior sports experience yet, they make public opinions every day that have an effect on a sport. The point is that we don't have to know anything about football to be able to judge someone about it. It doesn't take a genius to look at results and make a decision. I'm not advocating that we fire Rocco by any means, however, to say that the majority of the people on this board don't know what they are talking about is stupid.
I don't care how much effort it takes to run a College football program and I don't care if Rocco has done a "good job" or not. My concern is that there are many other schools having success in areas that we should be. My concern is that SB, a program that barely invest in their football, has passed us in terms of a more successful history. There is nothing in the bible about being critical and I don't think LU should have to settle for average results.
Whether you like or hate Rocco. one of the dumbest things I have ever read on here and that is saying a lot.

What I want gone is the attitude at this football team, athletic department, and whole school. You have a choice, don't think about becoming big time, or ignore it. My suggestion is that you behave like the athletes, coaches, and administration at top flight institutions and be above the noise.
This will not happen at Liberty. The problem starts at the highest level. Chancellor Falwell posts on this message board. Someone within his family regularly posts under another name questioning anyone who disagrees with a decision the University makes. There is a sense of fear among University employees that they can't even disagree with University decisions in e-mails among coworkers. The Athletic Director's wife and family reads this message board almost daily. Further, the Athletic Director does not handle criticism well and looks down upon anyone that dares to question a move that he makes. The only person allowed to question him is Danny Rocco. Employees within the Athletic Department are required to keep up the persona and marketing of the Department in their private lives. It is all a giant Public Relations campaign that is more focused on Liberty University appearing to be "big time" than actually becoming "big time."

But you don't need to man. 95% of us want him here, and even if we didn't, we are just idiot fans. Go to any message board for any BCS level team. They all call for blood over the smallest of slip ups. We are fans, and we are invested. Differently than a player, sure. It's more personal for you. I get it. Just realize that the scrutiny comes with the success. Thanks for stopping by. I don't know who you are but I appreciate you.
If you don't believe it, check out an LSU board! They have wanted Les Miles gone for years.

I've heard coach's of big time programs talk about how they wont read the papers listen to talk radio or read message boards and they wont allow their wife or kids either. If you're a family member or someone that goes beyond the standard friend, you have to stay away from places like this. What good comes from it? When things are going well you get to read how great you or the person who means a lot to you is(which is not good to read) and when things are going bad you get to read how awful things are going. This is just to close to home for some and I would advise not reading it at all. I've been around here long enough to know the comments you simply have to roll your eyes at because they are so ridiculous and what actually has some logic. Not everyone gets that opportunity though so I have no problem reading this board b/c it's easy for me to sift through the true and the false and none of it is personal to me.

I swear there are times I'm not so sure we're ready for the "big time" as fans. We want to be in the FBS yet complain about the high cost of tickets for the NC State game....or the long walk. We want a SEC type atmosphere but cry when someone disagrees with someone...not to mention individuals that oppose generally aren't going about it in nearly the same fashion as they would on a SEC message board. You cant have it both ways guys.

This reminds me of a time a family member called in to defend Dr. Falwell on a local talk show of an extreme liberal. Doc called her up and thanked her for doing it but told her that he's simply saying these things for a reaction and get listeners...if all the people that disagreed with him would stop listening and calling in he'd no longer have a show. It didnt take long for the local talk show to get cancelled.

I don't agree with the comments on the other thread about needing a new coach....but they are certainly fair to discuss. As rational/logical of a person as DR is I believe he understands the need for accountability and evaluation of the current state of the program by himself and the administration every year. The posters on FF are allowed to do the same. Generalizing an entire fan base though, of 1300 posters is about as asinine as watching CNN and basing all of your opinions off of that.

Also, to say that coaching at LU somehow puts you at a disadvantage is absurd and nothing more than a built in excuse for when things go wrong. There are coach's on campus right now who see that as a positive because rather than trying to cast a net over the entire nation their selection process has already been narrowed down for them.

We have to stop being so paranoid....not everyone is out to get you, and even the ones that are only have the power of the keyboard. Who cares! As long as they dont take personal shots at the individual or family members (which in my opinion is way over the line and no family members should ever be named in a good way or bad unless they put themselves in the spotlight rather than being there because of circumstance). I pray we never get to a point where leadership worries about what a "Sly Fox" posted last night, or what Bill said at the grocery store...if we have the time to worry about that kind of stuff then we have far bigger concerns to deal with.

Mr. Williams, you are correct that he has not posted under his "JLFJR" username recently. However, it is known that either he or his wife post under another username that has been active over the past week in the section called "The Lynchburg Life." Further, there is less of a need for him to post when he can call you into his office at a moment's notice and have you post anything that he wants you to.

There's a lot of people who pass by here but won't post, some never come back ..... and that's a shame. But I don't blame them.

Most every forum Iv'e ever visited, on any subject matter, ends up a toxic waste dump ... unless it's heavily moderated. It's not unique here. Every poster should be required to use his or her real identity. Cuts down on a lot of the irresponsible junk and the use of duplicate ID's.

A negative opinion now and then is understandable, but not the same thing over and over. Can we at least keep all, "the AD and HC have to go stuff", in one thread. Your opinion is in the minority? A very poor representation of all the LU fans and alumni I know?

you guys are babies. It takes like 2 posts from someone to figure out if they're worth taking seriously or not. And if they're not, they are at most annoying.

I think I could count on 2 fingers how many LU sports discussions I had been able to have before this place. Dealing with the agenda posters is worth it.

LUconn...that's why I have more use of the foe option these days...and jcmanson I think he (Alford) is inferring that he registered under a new username and has been posting in The Lynchburg Life. Im sure Sly could run an IP check to verify or debunk his claims

I haven't bothered to make such inquiries. But in my experience with the Falwell family over the past 30+ years, they have never been shy about stating what they believe and standing by it. If anything it should be on their family crest.
