Two early loses to D1-A teams and one to a first place, 7-1 Ivy League team. After that they have run the table
I don't think these guys are getting the respect they deserve in the polls :?:

Much of the season they lived and died by their running game until they made a QB change...Essington hasnt been challenged by a pass defense since he became the full time starter

That's what she said! Couldn't resist!
I have no idea what to expect. We blew out a ranked coastal team, which is good. We lost to a ranked JMU team which is bad. We lost to a raked team on the road which is bad. We have another week to heal and recuperate which is good
Let's just say if I were abetting,an I'd steer away from this one! :D

I am calm right now, but I have a feeling that I will be losing sleep foe a couple of days leading up to this game.

I wouldn't say we lived and died by our running game because we have ran the ball effectively in every game we've played including our three losses (231,184, and 246 rushing in our first three games respectively). I think its apparent to all Stony Brook fans that Essington has a better arm and is more athletic than Coulter. The question is can he manage a close game. I really like our WR's (Priore has said it's the best group of WR he has coached) and Essington kept his poise and made the right reads in his limited reps in the beginning of the season, so I'll think he will do fine.

The big question for Stony Brook is the pass D and how the hold up against Summers and Co. That's what I'm nervous about.

For all of the grief we receive for our transfers from UVa & VT, frankly we don't hold a candle to the transfer factory there on Long Island.
  • 7 FBS Transfers
    14 JUCOs (Primarily from Cali)
6 FCS Transfers (5 from Defunct Hofstra)
    1 Division II
    28 Total Transfers
    94 Total Players on Roster
In other words, nearly one in three football players on the Seawolves roster started their college career somewhere else. And that doesn't include postgrad prep schools. In contrast, we have 11 FBS transfers & 2 FCS transfers.

We do have a lot of transfers but more than a few of the transfers are/were walk ons including our starting defensive tackle Jonathan Coats. Also the Hofstra transfers are a unique situation-they are local kids that wanted to go to school and play football close to home. If Hofstra didn't have a football program when they were being recruiting, they most likely would have come to Stony Brook. Also Stony Brook has 16k undergraduates but only 2700 degree seeking freshman. One third of the football team being transfers actually fits the university's demographics pretty well.

Before we panic, and worry ourselves to death for 2 weeks, let's not forget last year's score:

LU 54
SB 28

And that was without Aldreakis running the ball and Walt on defense.

Comparison scores, if you're in to that sort of thing:

SBU 42 PC 24
LU 27 PC 20 (2OT)

SBU 42 VMI 14
LU 37 VMI 31

SBU 42 CCU 0
LU 63 CCU 27

SBU 50 CSU 31
LU 38 CSU 16

To win .... defense has to key on the run .... and make them air it out. Offence has to make every drive count and put up as many points up as possible, might need "everyone of them" to win. Don't want to play this one in the rain!

Comparison scores mean little in my book. The only way they matter is if both games were played under identical circumstances.

They had 356 yards on the ground vs. CSU.

I think we have an idea as to what our guys need to do to win this one.

Not sure what "Cue Milli Vanilli" means, even dusted off my old set of Funk & Wagnalls up in the attic to look it up. :D IM guessing it has something to do with the 90's lip syncing sensation :D

What IM saying is ... I don't think they can beat us through the air. Set the "D" up to stop the run. See if we can hold them under 125 yards rushing.

On offence we need to do what we do best ... pass! Mike and all his receivers need to have a big afternoon ..... some good weather conditions will help the passing game. Rain seems to reward running teams ..."SB".
