A few weeks ago nobody thought he would even be out there.

Lewisburg linebacker Brandon Smith had suffered a painful back injury during track season and, at one point, he was declared out for the season. That being so, a player who earned first team all-state honors last year as a sophomore is doing his best to earn Comeback Player of the Year as a junior.

Smith has played in Lewisburg's first two games and was in for nearly every defensive snap during last Friday's 27-16 loss to Mount Carmel. The three-year starter even played some on offense, carrying the ball twice for 12 yards.

Penn State continues to comb the state of Pennsylvania for hidden gems on the recruiting front, getting commitments from four more "run-on" players.

Two defensive players -- DB Tom Pancoast and LB Brandon Smith -- and two on the offensive side -- quarterback Chris Geiss and lineman Austin Fiedler -- gave their pledges this week.

Dont really know if I would be that happy, with having to "run on" or possibly have my education paid for. Possibly play or sit on the bench for at least the next two years.

When you are 17-years-old, money doesn't really click with most kids. All he can see is Happy Valley crowds cheering him on when in reality there is a heavy price tag attached to that dream.

Probably $0 out of his pocket. School or mom and dad - makes no difference to a kid who wants to play there, has dreampt of it his entire life. Not saying he's smart, just typical.

Id bet that the vast majority (85%+) of kids in PA, especially in that area of PA, dream of putting on the navy blue and white of Penn State at some point or another

Have family less than 5 min away from campus and 2 cuz who went there, so I do understand, I guess being from VA and PA makes a big diff. All I can tell you is it was def made well known I understand what you may want, but do you want me to be there or be working to continue to pay for you to be there, lol.
