I actually carried 3 Reds fans with me to the game, and the Dad got cursed out for wearing a Reds hat inside Lexington Market before he ever took his first bite of a Maryland crab cake.

Matusz has been injured and has lost about 5 miles on hour on his fastball. Showalter is telling him that he needs to learn how to pitch with the decreased velocity.

Pirates are 7 games over .500 and in first place. Granted it is the NL central, but hurdle has done a fantastic job. Now if they could get the bats going... Been waiting a long time for them to play like this.

Karstens is putting up some amazing numbers for the Bucs. He's impressive.

I'm dumbfounded how Karstens has a 2.3 ERA and only 52% owned in fantasy land. Granted he's not a strikeout pitcher but he's had all quality starts but one.

Looks like this year will be a good year for the Rays... just not enough to catch up with the marketing machines...

I wasn't in favor of expanding the playoffs, and I know I sound like a sore loser, but cmon, if the Rays finish with 90 wins and don't get in... that's just lame.

Gotta love how ESPN is in total freak out mode today because their beloved Red Sox who they are huge fans of are now only 3 games ahead of the almighty Rays.

I mean even I know the Rays can't catch them. Sure, Boston's rotation is a problem, but the Rays lineup, 7 through 9 spots is an even worse problem.

(As a sidenote, thank you Orioles for becoming relevant at the right time.)

The rays and red sox will just be side notes in the Tiger's run to the World Series.

I've been reluctant to post because of the Sox tailspin. It's been an agonizing month to say the least. 2 games left against the suddenly resurgent Orioles while the Rays are playing the Yankees AAA squad. Not looking good right now.

I've seen before though Adam. Never doubt the Rays ability to totally screw up.

September has been beyond frustrating for the Red Sox. Even if the Sox happen to make the playoffs I'm not sure they'll win a game.

I agree. Unless they miraculously turn things around, they don't have a prayer of making it to the ALCS much less the World Series.

If I honestly had to guess, I think it will come down to a one game playoff.

I got an email from the Rays about buying tickets to a one game playoff on Thursday. Seriously considering buying them tomorrow since schools are closed Thursday and Friday here in Ft. Myers for Rosh Hashanah and hurricane make up day we didn't use. Wishful thinking?

Yes, but I wish they would re-surge in May or June instead of waiting until the end of the season again. Too little, too late. Just gets hopes up again for next season then nothing but heartache.

Last O's game of the season tonight, and I've got TWO church committee meetings. Time to fire up the VCR one last time.

2-2 count, 2 outs, bottom 9th, down a run, and you get a home run from a pinch hitter first baseman who's batting under .200

That's why Joe Maddon is Manager of the Year. The great pumpkin strikes again. Time for the Rays to win it in extras!

I want to believe... I want to believe...

Maddon pinch-hitting with Johnson really didn't surprise me though. He was the only real power threat off the bench. At that point, it was all about going for broke.

He's the most clutch player on the team, and probably in the MLB. He can't hit unless it's a big time situation.

Where's Chirinos? Sure I know its righty vs. Righty but even Proctor knew he got away with that.
