BJ you annoyed me all week jumping all over anybody who said anything negative about the schools decision with Asa and it wasn't until this loss where you finally got closer to reality. You are always so quick to condemn anybody who question the coaching staff on any decision they make. So please don't pretend you aren't guilty of it.

I know its just BJ and we just kind of laugh at you and you're ridiculous kool aid drinking comments and predictions, but this week it was at a whole new level

Fair point Jesse...I guess in a sense today I got to feel the frustration that has certainly been mounting and put things into perspective

and don't get me wrong I probably allowed my strong opinions on the matter get a little out of hand, but the lack of discipline on and off the field this season has been out of control in my opinion and the Asa thing and this loss just makes it that much worse

If you don't discipline off the field then you simply won't have any on it

Man, that's a tough loss. Are there any other All-Pro coke-heads we can reinstate to help us out in the weeks to come?

finally read thru the game thread. You guys actually hit on a few points that I was seeing from sec. EF row 14 seat 6

1. we hit hard but don't wrap up. More missed tackles this week which sustained drive after drive for them

2. our vaunted DB's play such soft coverage sometimes I wanna throw myself into traffic. We basically handed them most 3rd and 2's in the first half. I will say the D tightened in the 2nd half, but we still left guys unmarked and I have no idea how that happens

3. everytime SCH was in the backfield I feared for #10's life. Very little pass protection had him rushing throws and getting hammered most of the day. We need Gagliardi back there.

4. we still telegraph passes. Esp to #1.

5. penalties. I don't think I've ever seen 3 TD's taken off the board. I know we weren't the most objective people in the stadium but some of those seemed pretty ticky-tack. I know DR nearly lost his mind during one of the time outs. I like that passion tho.

6. Pat Kelly looked great, was a monster across the middle, and got victimized by zebras. Why we didnt go to him in the second I have no idea. I was begging for him to no avail. Had hoped for more outta #2 and #7 too, not to mention Tommy Shaver.

7. We had a couple series in a row in the 2nd half were we had 3 and outs with no gain or loss of yardage. That killed us. In the first half, we had such a nice mix of offense going- I figured we'd build on that. I just expected adjustments in the locker room but it didn't happen. either that or there were bad decisions being made at the line of scrimmage. Who knows.

Anyway- here is my commentary *not that anyone asked*

we just dropped games by 3 points to two top-15 teams. I know no one wants to hear this but I'm old enough to have fathered some of you so just take it... these arent scrub teams we're playing. If we roll the BSOUTH we need to be ready for this type of competition in the playoffs. (See CCU last season- backed into the playoffs and got smoked)

we are a talented group but not a cohesive team. I must have said 5 times today how we had better talent but were flat getting out-played. They just look tight. It's frustrating for a fan- I can't imagine what the coaching staff is going through.

I hope to high heavens the team doesnt read this or any other board. I don't know what it's gonna take but they need to get their collective heads screwed on straight for the conf schedule.

Lets get better next week and roll the BSOUTH. GO FLAMES.

The players have no one to be mad at but themselves. No one on th board suited up and played. They were the ones who played and they were the ones who made mistakes. If they want to get mad at someone , get mad at your team mates. Get mad at their stupid decisions on the field. Look at the game film and the penalties. Look at the stupid decisions by your team mates off the field. Asa's is just the most public. Clean up your own house first.
As for coaching change, I do somewhat find the decision earlier the week a trifle unsettling. However , on the field there is only so much a coach can do. You can lead the horses to water but you can't make t hem drink. I will say that in college you have more of an opportunity to get players who will do what there asked. What Does stick in my head is the assistant coach sending 66 to the locker room last week. Having more coaches willing to do things like that will most certainly cut down on stupid penalties

Most head coaches aren't going to make those changes when they don't have to. They shake things up and move coaches around first (which we've done). Changing coaches completely generally doesn't happen until the AD steps in and tells them to make a move or they're next. If you need a recent example look at Coastal two years ago.

That's what happened at Lehigh after the 2009 season. Our OC was horrible, but the HC had brought him along when he came in from U of Penn. He wasn't tough enough on the QB, wasn't able to coach the position but was though of as a great 'strategist'. It didn't work and after three seasons of 5-6, 5-6 and 4-7, the AD (who is a former Lehigh QB) had a heart to heart with Coen. A new OC was brought in, and last year we go to the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Most of that offense is back again this year. Oh, the new OC? A former Lehigh All-American WR, Cecchini, who had been at The Citadel until they went to the wishbone. So that's how it happens.

As for today's game, you guys have a team with a lot of talented athletes, but you made more critical mistakes than we did, and we made a lot, too! Summers will be playing on Sunday next year. We could not deal with his height advantage gave him a lot of cushion. I think Brown tries to do too much at times. He has to stay with what works. I don't understand the long pass calls as he really does not have a long distance arm. Too much rainbow, but he's a heck of a run threat creates mucho problems for a defense. I hope those who travelled to the bucolic Lehigh Valley were treated well. We were impressed with how well you 'travel'. You had more fans on the visitors side than most Patriot schools we play..and they are much closer. Sorry we missed your band. I hope to catch them some other time. I do hear we are coming to Liberty either next year or 2013. Good luck the rest of the way. I think you should be able to win your conference. I saw some of Stony Brook beating Lafayette tonight and they showed some explosiveness on offense. That should be an exciting game.

As for the officiating comment...It did not cost you the game. Both teams suffered some questionable calls, but none of the TD's called back for either team were wrong. The players making such critical mistakes, this late in the season, should be concerning.

If I give props, I get yelled at, if I don't give props, I get yelled at. Just because I've yelled at you while you officiate doesn't mean I blame losses on officiating. Don't get your panties in a wad. :)

and the "uncatchable" when our WR was mugged and couldnt get under the ball if his life depended on it. Tho I suppose holding DOES make it uncatchable, so maybe...

nice place to watch a game tho, and the fans over there are pretty benign- good for visitors for sure. Down side was concessions: waited 20 min for a freakin' bottle of water at halftime. They had 4 people in a tent trying to serve 700 Liberty fans. Not sure why the permanent concessions under the stands weren't open???

Very frustrating. Not sure what to say that hasn't been said. After watching JMU knock off WM and watch us let a game against another ranked opponent is hard to swallow. Yes we are in a lot better position that we were 6 years ago but there seems to be a pattern. I think the JMU poster hit it on the head last week when he made the comment about playing in the BSC and having room for error. Well in game like last week and this week we don't have room for error. Looking at the Rocco era what close games have we won?? Westen Carolina who out Libertyed us and Ball St who almost won that in the last minute. We can't win the close games. Either too many penalties or turnovers. Unless we are playing someone that we have way more talent, we find a way to lose. I thought some of you were crazy when you said we wouldn't lose another game after the NC State game. I don't thnk many thought we would start 1-3. After last weeks game I wasn't as frustrated as I am now. So from here we go on and win conference and make playoffs or choke again. Win the conference this game will be somewhat forgotten, if not some decisions will have to be made.

It's really, really frustrating. As I said all offseason, talent-wise we are top 10, maybe better than that. We just haven't put it all together for whatever reason. You shouldn't lose games when you are more talented.

I'm holding out hope we will figure it out these last 7 games and get on a roll going into the playoffs. If we do, we would get a very winnable game at home to open the playoffs. That would give us another opportunity to prove ourselves.

I'm not taking these last 2 losses as hard as I did the Robert Morris loss from last season. As long as JMU and Lehigh keep winning and are getting ranked in the Top 10 I don't think that it is a talent issue it looks to be more a discipline issue and our inablility to make plays when game are on the line. Typical of LU recent past. I feel that these last 2 weeks are just blown opportunities but there is more to the season even though the competition is several notches down and does not provide the opportunity for us to redeem ourselfs until the playoffs start. We should win out and can't afford a letdown at CCU or SBU.

Frustrated because we could have won both games against higher ranked teams.
Frustrated because right now we've looked better on paper then we have on the field.
Frustrated because this forum is a place for us to vent and people get bent out of shape when we vent.
This is arm chair land and we are all quarterbacks and that's the way it is. Coaches and players enter at your own risk.

Way to much drama here  . We've lost to two top 20 teams by a total of 6 points. We haven't even began conference play yet. What did VA Tech do last season after losing to DIV 1-aa JMU. They "pulled together" and won 11 straight, the ACC Championship Title game and a trip to the Orange Bowl.

It is not an easy process to execute the vision of JF for athletics. Jlfjr has certainly put the funding at levels untouchable by any other FCS yet we can't beat Lehigh. Does Lehigh even give scholarships?
How does their budget compare to ours? We need to realize that decisions like the one with Asa puts us on a slippery slope.

^^^ this is sorta my take

I wonder how the fans in the Southern and CAA feel when you can have a good team, year in and year out, make the playoffs regularly, but still lose 2- 3 conf games EVERY YEAR.

as the caliber of competition goes up, you're gonna have these games. To think you're going to win them all is naive, and I have to say- after sleeping on it, losing 2 games by 3 pts ea to two top-15 teams doesnt rock my world.

Its entirely likely we see them again when we make the post season. Time to attend to the business at hand and take the conf games.

thats all I've got.

Using the virginia tech scenario is totally like pulling a rabbit out of hat. "Here's what they did, hopefully we will do it too!"

Sorry, I don't buy it. At all.

If I may expound on my argument here, I see a lot of people talking about "we'll play them in the postseason". Will we ever get there? So often we've thought we'd win it, but haven't ever officially done so. I tend to think we will, but every time we think we will, we never do.

Just some thoughts.

Tech also has a history of pulling it together after a rough start. They had a track record of winning close games and doing better then average in big games. They have a lot of variables that we don't

They did but they know what we know...that if not for some really STUPID penalties or other general craziness, we could have won both games (if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have indigestion). Remember, we had three TDs taken off the board due to penalties...those penalties dont happen, we win 45-27. The offense has shown at times this year (and many times the last two years) that when it gets rolling, we are almost unstoppable so if we can get our collective heads screwed back on, youre gonna see a lot of very lopsided scores like we have become accustomed to
