Once you ask for a continuance, it's up to the court to select the date. Not sure they had any choice in the matter.

Lang's right, I'll bring up a personal example.

This past summer I was driving along to a friend's house I was staying at and a Lynchburg PD officer pulled me over because my inspection sticker was expired. Well when they ran my license, they found that I had an unpaid traffic ticket in Appomattox and as a result, my license was suspended. Well when they ran my license during this most recent stop, they discovered that my license was suspended and I was cited for driving with a suspended license and they set my court date for late July. I got my car inspected, and went to the court appearance. Well the officer as it turned out was on sick leave and so they had to reschedule. They moved it to just over three weeks later because that was the soonest that I could be placed back on the docket. I say all that to back up our scribe's point that once a court case is postponed, its not up to the person being tried to set the date (as a post script, the officer didnt show up for teh second court date, was held in contempt and the ticket was dismissed)

No problem. Not living in a glass house throwing stones either...
Count me as another not living in a glass house, but my $.02 (for what they're worth) is that this is not doing Liberty any favors in the PR department right now. Especially coming over here & reading the majority of your own fans bashing the decision. If the people who know more about it than I do are this unhappy about it (in general - I understand from browsing the past couple of pages of the thread that certain posters are taking a "wait and see" approach), that only implies to me that I shouldn't really be happy about it either.

Yes, Coastal has had its share of problems with athletes defying the law. But to see a school like Liberty do something like this, in apparent & absolute defiance of its self-instituted moral code, is fairly shocking & not at all good.

Again, just my humble opinion - take it for what you will. If mitigating circumstances are made public after the fact, then I'll happily take back my criticism of LU's decision. However, from the outside looking in with the facts available to me right now, this situation is making Liberty look pretty bad.

Thanks Lang. Hope you are taking public transportation! This was not a point I had thought of, but someone much shorter then me made it. The point the person was making was if there is nothing there, then why ask for a continuance in the first place? Why not get it done early, get a quick plea deal to misdemeanor and move on.
Notice, I'm not passing blame or judgement because I don't know who asked for the continuance or why. If the Prosecution asked for it that would make more sense at least to me then if the defense did. If I was the defense I would want this to go away as quickly as possible. But his lawyers might want to take a different approach.

TBGBG hates the AD and every decision he makes...something tells me that he'd rather he die in a car accident or something...the man has the deepest bitterness someone could possibly have for another person (or group of persons)

Well thankfully you didn't put me in that category!
You can still respect a person and disagree with their decisions. Good people make bad decisions. (Except my wife, she of course never makes a bad choice, just choices I have not grown to appreciate.)
I do not wish personal ill on anyone in this situation, but Lang should still be careful near dark alleys, not saying I've heard things, just sayin! Maybe it was missed in my subtlety but I disagree with this decision and the way it was managed. Maybe I am a contrarian , but I from an early age I have rarely taken things at face value.

ADAM. That is what BJ posted 57 pages ago and the document we have all been going from. Apparently, there is an updated copy that we have not seen. Therefore, I am retracting 1 of the 4 reasons I am against this decision till said new document is provided with the date is was amended

Apparently. He has it on good authority that we are all using the incorrect version. He even posted it. I can neither confirm nor deny I have seen this updated version or able to verify the veracity of it's authenticity.

Just wait till all the facts are out before assuming the one posted is the correct one.

But if there are 2 posted with contradictory information. Which one should you go with? I know what happened in the Cold War when there were conflicting launch codes!

But there are things you don't know! Im disappointed in some of the people on here for challenging BJ's well informed post. Why can't you just blindly accept the leaders' contradictory statements and just not worry about it?

I looked over the Liberty Way and I didnt see anything about the two semesters out being automatic, but it does say that its a minimum two semesters out, but Im guessing that with the words "Possible Administrative Withdrawal", if you are caught with them they arent going to be like "you were found with drugs, pack your things, youre gone..." the way Im reading it, (and I had the Liberty Way emailed to me AND I looked it up on the Liberty website), they allow for the legal process to run its course, (as Im guessing many have recommended here) and upon conclusion of the matter, then the appropriate punishment is meted out (in this case, two semesters out minimum)

Here is an interesting point that so far has not been brought up. Here is what the Liberty Way says about Administrative Withdrawal:
Liberty Way wrote:Students, who are reported to have violated the policies or regulations of the University that stipulate administrative withdrawal, are required to meet with the appropriate Student Conduct Officer for a personal conference. The Student Conduct Officer will present the alleged violation(s) to the student and the student will then be given full opportunity to present his/her position concerning the allegation. The Student Conduct Officer, and possibly other Student Affairs staff or their representatives, will conduct an investigation of the alleged violation(s). When the investigation is complete, and the allegation is determined to be true, the Conduct Office Review Committee (CORC) will consider the facts and relevant information concerning the violation(s), including the student's prior disciplinary record, before voting. NOTE: During the investigative process, the student should continue attending classes.
Here also is what it says about self-reporting (and consider the other quoted portion as you read this):
Self-Report Procedure
A student has the option of self-reporting by voluntarily self-reporting to any Liberty University community member within one week of the offense. It is then the responsibility of the community member to whom the offense was reported to accompany the student to the Student Care Office as soon as possible. If an investigation has begun and there is already prior knowledge of the incident, it will not be considered a self-report. The appropriate Student Care Officer will work with the student in setting the necessary boundaries and accountability measures in place to foster an environment for growth. This plan will not include reprimands or fines. Students will not be allowed to “self-report” the same behavior more than once per semester without sanctions.
NOTE: Violations of the law (serious misdemeanors or felonies) may carry sanctions up to and including administrative withdrawal even when there is a self-report.
The bolded section is important to note...according to our resident scribe in his notes on Tuesday, "Liberty’s football coaching staff was made aware of the charges and took action, and part of that action was for Chapman to immediately turn himself into the office of student affairs at Liberty, which is where the “self-reporting” came from in Monday’s press release on the matter. Chapman went to student affairs to inform them of what happened before student affairs was aware of the charges. Ergo, he self-reported." In other words, since the OSC had not already been investigating the matter, but the coaches did know about it, he is still within the confines of the self report policy as outlined in the Liberty Way, and because of that, any reprimands that would be issued and additional consequences (such as being removed from school for said minimum of two semesters) are on hold until the legal process plays itself out.

(Man that was a lot to write, as well as a lot to copy and paste...)

Is this the 'new' one or another section of the old one? I ask b/c the one posted prior specifically mentions a 2 semester minimum.
It does at least explain the Universities definition of "self reporting". Basically, as long as OCD are the last to know, it counts as self reporting.
The only thing it specifies is that the student can stay in school, but says nothing about extra curricular activities.

My guess with that is that any additional activities are at the discretion of the leadership of said activity (in this case Coach Rocco and if need be the AD). I also think what we all have been posting from is the new one. Where the old one is I honestly dont know...my apologies for the confusion on that.
