I'm expecting them to give a legitimate reason for their actions when those actions contradict not only ethical norm for organizations within its field but also the general mission of the University.

I'm expecting them to give honest information, not some Asa Chapman reported himself piece of trash.

And I'm expecting Mark Hine to be a ratard as he usually is.

I’m certainly very hopeful as we go through the due process here and as we wait on the court date that we will be in a position to strongly reconsider reinstatement. But it will not be until we have sufficient information that, in our opinion, would merit that response.

We dont really care that he broke the Liberty Way, or that he was arrested for cocaine possession. All we want is for him to push back the trial so he wont have to plead guilty to anything on my watch and still be able to play football.

Liberty University's Statement on Reinstatement of Asa Chapman

While I did not participate in the process of determining whether Asa Chapman should be reinstated to the football team, I have reviewed the facts of the case (some of which are unknown to the public and cannot legally be disclosed by Liberty) and the decision to reinstate by Coach Danny Rocco and Athletic Director Jeff Barber. Based on the facts that have been provided to me by the Student Conduct Office, Athletics and Asa Chapman’s attorney I have concluded that the decision to reinstate was consistent with school policy and I have found no compelling reason to reverse the decision.

I also did not participate in the process of determining what disciplinary action should be taken against Asa Chapman by the DEAN OF STUDENTS Office but I have reviewed the facts relative to that decision as well. The Office of Student Care first learned of this incident from Asa Chapman himself. (The self-report policy is clearly outlined in the Liberty Way and was followed in this matter.) Asa Chapman had a clean record with the Student Conduct Office prior to this incident. This was his first offense. As a Christian university, Liberty offers support and restoration programs that are not available at most institutions and is therefore better suited to monitor, counsel and restore wayward students. Those students have a better chance of returning to spiritual health, in my opinion, if they remain a part of the Liberty community. This is why Liberty instituted its restorative justice program a few years ago for first offenders. I have concluded that the disciplinary actions taken by the Student Conduct Office are consistent with school policy and with how that policy has been applied to other students at Liberty and I have found no reason to reverse the decision.

There is always pressure on school administrators to impose tougher sanctions on prominent students in disciplinary matters. With over 12,500 students, Liberty’s Dean of Student’s Office encounters matters similar to the one involving Asa Chapman from time to time and works hard to assist these students to make positive changes in their lives. Those matters remain private and are never discussed by the larger community. While every case is unique, Liberty is determined to be consistent in its treatment of all students and refuses to impose harsher punishment on certain students just to prove there is no favoritism or to make a public example.

Ok heres what i can tell you. I wont say who posted this because my wife said not to bring this individual into it. "Maybe you should contact the chancellor if you have a problem with the way something is being done at liberty. You dont have a problem coming to the chancellor for help but you wont come face to face to him about issues at liberty, but instead bash liberty publicly. I would like to see you and all the others try to run this university and make decisions that everyone will agree with. I get tired of people who dont know all the facts forming an opinion and whining on facebook. Especially from people who dont have a problem asking liberty for help when they have issues. Everyone sins and instead of hating them we should be praying for them and stop making up there own opinions with no facts to back it up." Okay so im on my phone and its a lot to type so i paraphrased some of that. This is one person who is affiliated with liberty that i would never doubt a word they said.

At the end of the day the question asked was not "what is the best thing for Liberty?" and it wasn't "what is the best thing for Asa as a person?" It was "Can we keep him on the football team, please?"

Yeah theres no facts or anything. But the comment that were forming our opinions off of zero fact tells me theres more to the story than whats been given to us. With that being said i dont think we should be hating on asa or anyone else for that matter until the facts do actually come to light. Im not defending asa im just trying to keep things real and fair

Ah yes, "constructive possession" rears its ugly head! One would have to believe, as some have commented, that the lawyer(s), coaches and administrators have talked about the facts before the decision to announce his reinstatement. Really folks, car possession cases are not rocket science. You in the car with the substances physically on you, or in close proximity, or if you are dumb enough to admit knowledge of them...you lose! If others are in the car, or possibly could have been, and those wacky friends of yours just happen to leave their dope in your car, either in the back seat, under the passenger seat, or in the glove box...you win. Or, if the car is in someone else's name, who could have driven it that day and left the dope in the car, you win! Prosecutors are not fools or stupid, they know these cases rise and fall on where it is found and/or what statements the defendant makes with regard to the substances. Now, maybe I am wrong and the whole LU staff/coaches/chancellor are going to take the position that we just want him back on the team to help us win and we don't care about what eventually happens because he is still presumed innocent until proven otherwise, but Holy Cow, as some of you have pointed out, that would be a PR nightmare. Either the charges get nolle prossed, which by the way does not have to happen until the December court date, or there is already and agreement between defense counsel and the prosecutor for a 251 disposition, or there are career suicides going on!
