TTL Do you hear yourself? (Ok, see the words you are typing?) You are bashing BYU for holding to their standard? Their STANDARD keeps athletes away? I am sure it does, but they could beat the pants off of us in both Football and Men's Basketball. They give people second chances as well. That argument makes sense only if you are trying to justify your own actions. I know we are supposed to try to emulate Notre Dame, but I have always felt that BYU was a better model. They are known for sticking to their principles. Granted, a Jim McMahan comes a long from time to time, but they made a GREAT statement with their suspension during their tounament. I would also posit that there might have been an INCREASE in enrollment because of that stand. I guess I really am a hater. I would much rather see us live up to our own self imposed standards then seel ourselves short to MAYBE win a football game.
This has nothing to do with being "stupid". If Asa IS found guilty in a court of law (he is ALREADY guilty of breeching the 'old' Liberty Way) it will not affect Rocco, Barber or Hine. That is just hyperbole. They can all claim "Hey we were just trying to help the kid" and they will be pardoned for any transgression.

I've been an avid flames fan since I arrived on campus for my undergrad in Fall 2005. The whole situation is regrettable, but I feel that it would be best for us to wait on the facts. During my time at LU, I was involved in student government. Unfortunately, I had to sit on a couple of disciplinary panels. Trust me, every case is viewed on it's own merits. Fairness is not defined by treating all the same, but by treating similar cases in a similar manner. Additionally, the Liberty Way serves only as a guideline, not an absolute moral code.

Finally, our experiences also shape our feelings, which is why I am going to be more patient. I have a family member who was caught with illegal substances, and was subsequently offered a second chance by the university. Thus, I will extend grace to Asa and pray that the appropriate decision has been made.

Nothing would make me happier than to wake up tomorrow and hear that the charges have been dropped and Asa is free to completely dominate the defensive line for us for the rest of the season!

I get it, this is Liberty, not just any school. This isn't an issue of recruiting. But we're going to shut doors for second chances (that we love to give) if we're just going to kick out people who have any kind of issue that leaks out as public.

I'd love to play for an administration that sticks its neck out for me. I'm not an athlete (obviously) but I feel like that's an admirable quality.

As an outsider, here's my issue: this is actually more aggressive than other schools. As pointed out earlier, the Rose brothers plus another were dismissed from the team until the charges were completely dropped (and not all of them were "repeat offenders"). There are also plenty of other issues at other schools to draw from as examples.

Now, having said that, I would think that there has to be some other information out there that validates the reinstatement but right now the fact remains that felony drug charges are pending against an athlete on your roster. Unless that changes soon, that WILL affect recruiting, because it definitely takes the shine off of the "mission" advantage that Liberty has in recruiting Christian athletes.

If I had to guess, the charges might be getting dropped, but it's taking some time to get through the sytsem and they didn't want to delay his reinstatement to further punish him.

Sounds like MM took a stronger stand than our leaders at LU.

I asked Rocco about it so he could comment. He did not know of the arrest, which quite honestly stunned me. He gathered some information and gave me (and the school) a statement later in the day. We were running a story regardless. That's what happened. There was nothing underhanded going on on my part.

As for Langonator, he should be careful what he types. Because the way he relays the story the paper knew about the arrest before the administration. It was in fact the PAPER who informed the ADMINISTRATION about it. So I guess we now have a definition of what constitutes 'self reporting'.

Was allowed to stay enrolled...and this family member is no LU athlete either.

LUConn really did plant the stuff in his car.
PAMedic was the one who got him to self-report.
He had skipped court a couple of times so Coach Rocco and JFJR have asked BJWilliams to be Asa's mentor/counselor.
Sly Fox is not as sly as we thought, because he was blindsided by the whole thing.

This will all add to the excitement of winning our fifth straight BS title (together with Coastal).

Kinda what I expected to be true but I figured we wouldn't know if I didn't ask. It does make me question Lib and the whole "self reported" statement. I'm with the others who want a definition of what that means.
