i don't think Asa wouldn't be doing all this if he wasn't going to be allowed to be back on the team or school. So I think he met with someone already. It all depends on the court case

Rocco didn't do this for AA (probable repeat offender) so If he's going out of his way to help Asa then I support him being being back on the team.

He would show that he's above the rules which is bad for both him and the rest of the potential trouble makers on the team. I think it would just be a disaster on all ends. Except for maybe the end on the field, but who knows it could adversely affect that as well.
this.

Out of respect for DR, I will wait to hear the resolution before wigging out ...

My guess is, based on what has been made public so far, that Asa will not be back on the team this year, but will have the option of coming back next year on adherence to a zero-tolerance performance to some very strict guidelines. That would be in line with what has happened with most guys getting in trouble. Until we know all the issues, and we may never know, it is hard to speculate on punishment. IMVVVVHO

I think what Rocco's referring to is the first time offender rule in VA. I'm not positive, but I believe when someone is a first time offender, if they go a year without getting into any more trouble, the charges are cleared. So theoretically, he could be good to go after his court date. Let's all hope so, as he would be a huge help this season. Now that the other players know he was obviously flirting with disaster, maybe they will rally behind him and get him back on the straight and narrow...

I do think the coaches will do the right thing. I am sure Rocco has enough info to know what the likely outcome of the court case will be. We will just have to wait, but my intuition tells me that he sits this year, and depending on how he conducts himself in the year off, he will be playing again next year.

That's my feeling on the matter as well...(course that's been my mindset pretty much my whole life) Its a sad situation to be sure but the LAST thing that we can do is make a knee jerk reaction based on the limited knowledge that we have based only on what we have in one or two news articles.

I'm not saying I know anything (I don't), but you are assuming no one knows anything other than what Lang has printed. LU is still a small place.
In Rocco's tenure, we have very few cases of discipline to go on. I just think that he has an agenda in Asa's case.I dont see Rocco as the type of person to formulate an agenda unless he feels confident he is "in the know" about the particulars of the case.

I dont see any point of reading a prepared statement about Asa at this time. Unless you have an agenda.

Two things:

1. Chapman would have no eligibility left. He's already redshirted.

2. Rocco read the prepared statement because he didn't have one ready for last Tuesday's press conference since he was still gathering information at the time. I don't think it was an agenda as much as an opportunity to make sure people didn't think he was ducking the situation.

When did he redshirt? It certainly wasn't at Liberty. I thought he played two years at Fork Union because he couldn't get the grades for WVU/UVA and then he came here and has played since day 1. Wouldn't he still have his redshirt year?

You're right.

He hasn't redshirted. He's 24 years old, so I figured that he had to have redshirted at some point. But he hasn't.

Yeah I was thinking he hadn't redshirted either.

Thanks Chris. Thought you might know something I didn't.

I had lunch with a friend and we talked about this situation in depth. I too will wait for the legalities to take place, but from what it appears, Asa was in possession of cocaine which is a felony. If convicted he should be dismissed from the team and maybe even school, but i do not know how the rules have changed at LU. If this was marijuana it would be different because it is a misdemeanor. I know its still drugs, but im just going with the law. My question to anyone who knows, is drug possession at LU enough to be kicked out? I do like that LU appears to look at each situation and try to help the students. As SJ said Asa seems to have a problem with following rules. Would he have not eventually been arrested for the vehicle infractions? If Asa is convicted and remains on the team, i would lose much respect for Rocco, JB, and the administration. The fact that he was in possession of two drugs and his numerous vehicle infractions is enough in my mind to dismiss Asa from the team and either kick him out of school, or let him remain a student but not be allowed anywhere in the football facility. Maybe it would do Asa some good to leave school like AA did and get focused again. Coach Rocco should make an example of him and let it be known that this type of behavior is not acceptable at LU. Look how BYU handled their situation with the basketball player? i know this is a slippery slope, and their are a lot of "if"s written, but i just feel like this is not being handled the best.

NOTE: For each accumulation of six or more reprimands after 30, an additional $150 fine will be assessed.

so far. though i can appreciate the prepared statement, i just do not have a great feel about it in my gut.I would have rather heard coach rocco be more passionate about poor conduct and how its not tolerated. It's just my opinion and im sure many disagree. I eagerly await the legal system's findings.

if he was in possession he should be kicked off the team IMO, and not unless there is something we dont know it appears that way.

BYU actually let the kid back on the team at the start of the semester if I'm not mistaken. I think i heard Russelo and SVP talking about it on espn the other day. I dont see anyway he can be put back on the team.

The other thing that makes the Davies situation completely different from Asa's situation is that Davies wasnt facing legal action for what he did...all he did was break school rules...he didnt have to go to court
