One of the more interesting players came from Virginia in defensive tackle Bobby Massie who measured in at 6-6.5, 327 pounds and ran a 5.06 pro shuttle and 5.29 forty. However, just looking at his body he has a lot of room to lose some weight and will be a hot commodity the rest of this spring evaluation period.

To all on this board who said he wasn't a prospect for Liberty read this:

http://www.bwi.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=673879
"Right now, I've got an offer from Liberty, that's the only one so far. I am getting recruited by Georgia, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Penn State, North Carolina, Maryland and Nebraska."
If his grades don't come up he may have no choice but Liberty or JC.

Our entrance requirements may be low, but I don't think that will be an issue. I can't see any of those other schools turning him down if he meets the NCAA requirements, which apply just as much to us as to the FBS schools.

Oldflame - in the old system you would be correct. But in the new system just launched last year, teams are punished for bad student athletes. If your team GPAs fall below certain thresholds - you start to lose scholarships. And I believe it's also tied to graduation rates.

It's just not as easy to load up on academic challenges.

Massie Visits Clemson, Gets Offer
By Matt Long

Lynchburg, VA-Liberty Christian OL Bobby Massie (6-7 330) traveled to the Upstate this past weekend. By the time he left, he had received a scholarhip offer from the Tigers. "I liked Clemson. It's not a big city, so you have to focus on things like school and football." Massie said that both Clemson and Georgia are his leaders right now, and both have offered. He also has a third offer from Liberty. Interest has also come from Viginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, and Penn State, among others.

From Scout about his trip to visit UNC over the weekend:
“It went real well,” said Massie, a 6-foot-7 330-pound offensive tackle from Lynchburg (Va.) Christian, of his visit to UNC. “It’s a nice school; I can see myself going there.”
Massie and his family traveled to Clemson on Saturday morning and went on to have what he described as a “great” visit. After a night’s rest, Massie traveled to Chapel Hill and arrived on campus in the late afternoon.
“I wanted to make a decision before my senior year started so I could focus on football and school,” said Massie. “But if that doesn’t work out, I’ll have to wait until after I take my [official] visits.”

Come on GMTM.. talk some sense in to him! Can't fault him for wanting to go to UGA though--they love their football down there.

Yes they do. Athens is a great town and the campus is pretty awesome. It reminds me a lot of Chapel Hill, with a slightly different kind of southern flair.

Hopefully Hargrave does helps prepare him for the rigors of college academics. I wish him nothing but the best down in Chatham.

Anybody know what James Wilson's story is these days?

As someone who attended Hargrave, he will do very well there I have no doubt. Also, he will get a chance to play for some very good competition as a part of the PG team. They send kids to the top programs in FBS so Im sure he will get plenty of good looks next year.

Was driving through Mississippi today, and a local talk show was interviewing the guy who runs the Rivals site for Ole Miss...

his thoughts on Massie were "Bobby is a kid we'll see playing a lot on Sundays..."

We need to get to the point where kids like that stay in town to play for LU.

I agree. Grant Jones could be one of those.

Mike Rocco, Dominique Terrell are two I hear mentioned frequently this summer when talking about UVA. Would be nice to have them at LU.
