Very true. I'm Hispanic, have Spanish food almost every day, and still enjoy the food at La Carreta. So what if it's even a little bit Americanized? It's still good.

Agreed...when I walked up yesterday there were quite a few people waiting outside (I was lucky to get taken to a table right away because I was by myself)

My in-laws are regulars at the La Carreta on Timberlake. Every Monday, that's where they eat dinner. I started eating Mexican food because I went there with them while I was at Liberty.

I understand what you're saying. I personally like the salsa and trust me it's not ketchup. And I have noticed a difference between La Carretas in the salsa. We go to Timberlake most and their sals is different from others.
Also, I've not been to Mi Patron but you may have convinced me to try it.

Before we get to passionate about the mexican food in Lynchburg keep in mind that if Five Guys is good mexican, Mi Patron is McDonalds while La Carreta is Buger King. No Bueno

I know that there are other locations, but the one I go to is the one about a mile south of the airport on 29s/ward's road. It is in the food lion complex. Most of the time I get fajita's with my wife, but if you want to try something different, ask for enchiladas mole (rhymes with "hay"). It's not on the menu, but they will make it... and its good.

I don't know where you guys are going that you're eating stuff that is so far superior to la caretta. I normally eat at a Mexican restaurant wherever I travel. Including Mexico. Touristy and authentic. I've never had anything that I would consider that much better than la caretta.

It's Mexican food. It's mean, rice, beans, and cheese. It's hard to make that into a meal that'll blow your mind. Most Mexican places taste really similar to each other.

Nope. But I am not dissing La Carretta. Just their salsa. Before I lost 100 pounds, I use to eat Talabera at La Carretta.

For the record, the stuff they pass off as local food in the Yucatan peninsula is TexMex knockoff for the tourists. It bares little resemblance to authentic Mexican found across the nation or the better stuff just across the Rio Grande in Texas.

As a self-described connoisseur of both Mexican & TexMex, I beg to differ that all of it is essentially the same in taste and quality. But for the untrained tongues of the Mid-Atlantic region, I can understand your lack of appreciation for the nuances of the genre.

Down here in Texas, TexMex is a cheap and tasty meal for when you don't want to break the bank. I am amazed when I travel overseas at the lousy quality and obscene prices for what they refer to as Mexican. It is considered on par with French & Italian in prices in some of my recent stops this past month in Belgium, Japan and Australia. That blows my mind and gives me a greater appreciation for my Tejana bride. Fideo anyone?
