I think our own BJ Williams is the expert on this topic. As I recall, he hoped to compete in the Olympics in that category.

something tells me JDUB would be able to help you out w/ long gun selection.

the whole concealed-carry thing is another can of worms. A ton of variables:

YOU
your frame
your environment
your intent
your proficiency

YOUR WEAPON
size
function (concealability vs stopping power)
weight
features
price point

IMPORTANT: dont buy ANYTHING without trying it on a range first

Go to a gun show first and just look around to get ideas. You really need to find a good local dealer where you can touch and maybe even use the gun for feel and fit for you.

On the .22 I suggest a Ruger 10 22 or equivalent. There are tons of varieties from there. At that point any ammo will do and .22 is cheap.

The carry gun is much more a personal preference. What I prefer and what others do are totally different. Again, you need to go to a reputible gun shop and try them out. Try out both revolvers and semis in several different sizes and styles to figure out what you like. The good news is there are tons of options out there now.

I work late with football in downtown and run into all types of characters on the way to my car after work. Already had a few scary encounters. which prompted me to look for a conceal carry weapon. as for the .22 i'm looking for a Rabbit, small game hunting rifle thats affordable. I've shot a few and REALLY liked the Goldenboy .22 lever action but don't think i'm gonna want to spend that much for a rifle i'll use maybe 2 months out of the year. as for the conceal i've fired a Glock 22 on several occasions as well as a 9mm beretta px4 and the walther p99. i'm trying to balance power with conceal-ability.

I agree on the Ruger 10/22. They make a lot of variations of it, but I'd get a standard size. You'll probably want to change the sights if you want to hunt with it, I find the stock iron sights hard to use, especially when the sun begins to set. I prefer a circle rear sight that you look through and an upgraded hi viz front sight with a white dot. Probably a small dot if you're hunting small game.

As for CCW, I rotate mine depending on what I'm wearing and where I'm going. Definitely test it on the range or find a friend who has one before purchasing. Gun shows are a great place to buy one after you know what model you are looking for and have done research to know what a good price is.

I'd recommend a 380 for a pocket pistol or a 40 for a small of back, but everyone you talk to will have a different opinion and what's most important is being comfortable with it and practicing a lot so that it is an instinct and an extension of your body.

I like Bill's Guns out in Gretna, but that's just my two cents. Petry's (Ace Hardware) in town has a few guns too.

Clark Brothers guns up on 29, closer to DC always has weapons, ammo, and magazines.

Make sure you are comfortable. Just because one dude can pack a 357 doesn't mean you can. I shoot better with longer guns, rifle and pistol, even though shorter looks "cooler" in my book. But to conceal, I recommend a 380.

Thanks guys I'm going to look at the Ruger 10/22 since that seems to be the consensus between everyone. I was looking at the Marlin Model 60 but didn't know much about Marlin.
as for the CCW i'm gonna probably hit up a gun show this summer and go to a few ranges with some of my friends who own already to see what I like best. I agree with Jdub the 380 seems like it would be a good fit for me but we'll see I'm gonna go to the range sometime next week to see if I can try one out.

you can get a compact 40 or 45 that isnt a great deal larger/heavier than a .380

Personally, even with a small frame- I put stopping power over concealability.

then again, I'm used to carrying a full sized 45 every day all day

I agree for me, but it's a personal choice.

For a holster, whatever is most comfortable for you is important. As far as a caliber, as I said before, depends on personal opinion. If I could conceal my pistol grip 12 ga in my pants, I'd carry it but I can only fit 1 big gun in there...

If you are going the .380 route, hard to beat the new Sig 238. Kinda like a miniature 1911, I love mine. Lots of other options out there too. Revolvers you can't hardly screw one up with CCW, the LCR is my carry gun for my car.
