“Tough-as-nails” lead guard and Pasadena native has legitimate 3-point shooting range.

Pasadena Stars guard Kelly Assinesi transferred from Pasadena (Calif.) Lasalle to Greenville (S.C.) St. Joseph's so recruiting has been slow but his name should be more well-known especially if he continues to have these kinds of performances.

Assinesi, a 6-foot guard, hit a fade-away three-pointer to force overtime and he finished with 31 points, a catch-and-shoot guard who can also create off the dribble and pull-up for jumpers.

Not super fast to the basket, Assinesi still found ways to get teammates involved as defenders tried to face-guard him at times in the second half. Army, Lafayette, St. Joseph's and High Point are sending correspondence but things could pick up if he continues to play this way.
St. Joseph’s Catholic senior Kelly Assinesi has committed to continue his basketball career Liberty University, an NCAA Division I program in Lynchburg, Va.

“He had two letters of intent to sign with Division II, but that wasn't for him. He wanted to play Division I,” said Paul Assinesi, Kelly’s father and the Knights’ coach.

“They scholarshiped him this summer so he can go to France and Belgium with them. … (They) gave him a great financial aid package, and he gets treated just like a regular scholarship player.”

Kelly Assinesi, a 6-foot-1 point guard who played his first two years of high school ball in California, surpassed the 1,000-point mark in two seasons at St. Joseph’s.

As a senior, Assinesi averaged 24 points, 7.0 assists, 6.4 steals and 5.8 rebounds and was chosen to play in the North-South all-star game.

Paul Assinesi said his son already has some experience with the Flames.

“He played with that team in the fall a couple times,” Paul Assinesi said. “He played against them the summer before when we were down at their team camp, and I think he's going to be in a good spot.”

I don't know because he's not signing a LOI according to one article.

He's not a walk-on but I don't think he's getting a full scholly, atleast from my understanding of the article. I still think it leaves one scholarship open? I don't know how this fully works.

Btw. Ethan Layer is walking on so I would think he would be the only walk on the team. Don't know If Layer would have a limit.
