No, hire RD. Haven't you heard? His team beat UVa.

I guess you didn't get the hint. Why don't you tell us your full name, DOB, SSN, address?

Information appreciated grm but I think jc was being sarcastic because we had a poster who kept pressing for names and various other bits of information from some of the posters around here. Cider is a teacher at Liberty and thats all that needs to be said. If he doesnt want to go into specifics on the public forum as to what he teaches, thats his call. If he wants to divulge information like that in a private message that is his prerogative as well.

I understand the whole thing. The whole deal is fruitless in most respects. There are people here that, in my estimation, hate Randy Dunton, and they must have their reasons, but I personally believe that those reasons go back a whole bunch of years and involve personal relationships at some level. Randy Dunton can coach.

I never had a bad word with Jeff Meyer.
I don't like JB, basically because he fired my guy.
I thought RMK was a bad hire, but I did not jump on him at every turn, or any turn.
I think Laver is a fine man & a fine coach.

I'm just sick of the comments about cheerleading & UVA, and I'm not afraid to say who I am or what i believe, straight up. What about that 45 point win for the championship? Does that count for anything?

Some of these guys are bull artists that aren't going anywhere & have never been anywhere,
that just take cheap shots on the board. O.K., don't say who you are, I understand. Just quit the bull, or state your case in plain English.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not losing sleep over it. I'm just standing up for an unjust attack on my friend, come what may & come who may.

They all know who I am & where I am.

You do? I wish I did. I’m tired of talking about RD. I wish we could all let it go, but it seems we never will.
Randy Dunton can coach.
I don’t disagree.

It’s Layer. He’s not Russian.

Yes. And so does the 8th place finish. And the APR issues.
I'm just standing up for an unjust attack on my friend
And I’m just standing up for some on this board from an unjust attack from you.

Amazing...even after a few years, no other name on this board can ignite a fire like RD. Was he a good fit to run the LU men's bball program? In my humble and honest opinion, no. Does that mean he doesn't know how to coach basketball at all? No. Does that mean he's a horrible person? No.

Btw, I don't know Dunton; I just find it amusing that people rip on his coaching ability when the results are clearly there. The Big South back then when we won was alot more talented, then it is now.

It may have a lot more to do with something besides coaching ability. I think he was an average coach, nothing special. Yes, I know he won a tournament, and we haven't won one since. (We can get into a loooooooong conversation about that as well). I believe we won 3 games against D1 teams with a winning record the next year. But we are far ahead of where we were and on the right path in IMVVHO.
One thing you may want to think about, why was he not considered for the men's or women's job at Gardner Webb? You might think he had an inside track seeing as how their AD was at LU when RD was coaching. Mr. Burch is certainly not opposed to hiring former LU coaches, we all know that.
I wish RD well personally and in his career wherever it may take him, I'm just glad he won't be back on the mountain again as a coach.

Flameshaw initiated the cheerleading thing.

I'm sorry I misspelled Coach Layer's name.

You guys grant no quarter & are unwilling to ever give the guy a break.
I think less of you because of it, as you undoubtedly already do of me.
That's fine, if that's the way you want it.
And I also believe it takes away from the board, but again.....

O.K. Flameshaw, at least that was a fair post, & I respect your points and your tone. I can't answer exactly why no one has hired him, I just hope & pray that he gets a chance somewhere. You've got every right to not want him "on the mountain again as coach."

That's because of people like you and that other guy, who has gone through a half dozen usernames, keep bringing it up. Let it rest already.

When RD was first "not renewed" I respected the man alot. The way you guys have been the past 5 years has caused me to not respect him as much as I did then. Which I admit isn't fair to RD.

Thank you again for an honest & sincere post.

Honestly, I don't believe that I do bring it up. There were two criticisms early on in this thread, one on cheerleading & one on his being a realtor, and I didn't post them. I thought those were unfair & I responded, thus the firestorm. I would gladly promise never to bring up these issues, and I can stay off the board if that would be best, but wouldn't it also be fair to ask that
the snide remarks be stopped. Why can't they just say that he shouldn't be hired, or that they think he is a poor candidate?

If these guys are your friends, why not address those guys & ask them to stop.

If you could check back far enough, you'd see that this has been my request since the "Done-ton" days. Also, I'm pretty sure you know that I have been me and only me since the days of our first website, (whatever that one was).

I coached RD as a freshman in high school, taught his future wife when she was an eighth grader,
married he & Nadine, and have been extremely close to the whole family. I'd have to be deaf & blind not to know that others don't feel the way I do, but they could stop the viciousness. At least generally speaking, I have not attacked anyone on the board, or in the administration/coaching,
the way they have attacked him.

Whatever happens is O.K., but I really do respect a post like yours.

Yes that is fair. And no you don't need to leave the board.

It would be fine with me if Sly would never allow RD's name to be mentioned on this board. It just stirs up too much emotion from those on both sides.

I was just thinking about that jc...personally (and I hate that it even has to come to this), any discussion where any RD-bashing or other sort of negativity is mentioned ought just be immediately shut down because inevitably it seems to take a rather speedy downward turn when his name is brought up

RD bashing/discussion is one thing. Any "other sort of negativity mentioned ought to be immediately shut down" is another. This is a message board. If we shut down any sort of negativity there would be nothing to discuss.
