West Charlotte (NC) center Kennedy Meeks is one of the top rising juniors in the state, and he has been busy this week working out for college coaches.

"Well some of the schools that have been by are Xavier, Clemson, Virginia, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, Boston College, Liberty, Wake Forest, Buffalo, NC State, and Charlotte," said Meeks. "So far I have offers from UMASS, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech."

Meeks averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds as a sophomore, as the 6-foot-8, 260-pounder played a key role in West Charlotte winning the state 4A title. West Charlotte defeated Raleigh (NC) Millbrook 78-69 to win the title, the school's seventh title in the past 25 years. Meeks had 12 points, 19 rebounds, and two blocks in the win, and he was named title game MVP for his efforts.

"That was a special game," said Meeks. "We won a title, and I was named MVP. That was great."

Meeks started making a name for himself on the recruiting scene with a strong showing in the 2010 Carolina Challenge and the Elite 75 where he impressed Scout.com's Dave Telep.

"He's a classic center," wrote Telep. "Meeks has exceptional hands and good feet plus he's already a good passer. The next step is gaining lift and improving his athleticism. You don't find many young bigs who have his feel and comfort in the lane.

"With the right attention to detail conditioning wise he can transform himself into a top tier pivot man."

He was back at it again in the 2011 Carolina Challenge, where he proved to be one of the top players, regardless of class, in the state.

"One of the better post prospects in attendance, Meeks, a 6-foot-8, 260-pounder, showcased his full game at the Challenge," said Scout's Evan Daniels. "For a guy his size he has a great set of hands, terrific touch around the basket and is even capable of stepping out for jumpers from 15 to 21-feet. He even knocked down a pair of three-pointers and an 18-footer on consecutive possessions. He averaged 12 points per outing."

NC State assistant Bobby Lutz watched Meeks work out on Wednesday, and the talented junior admits he's still looking to find out more about NC State and the new coaching staff.

"That was my first time seeing coach Lutz," said Meeks. "I know he's supposed to be a good coach, and I'm still trying to learn more about him and NC State. I know they want me to come up for a visit sometime soon."

As of now Meeks admits that he's wide open but does have a top five and an early favorite.

"Well I'm open but if I had to give a top five I'd say Georgetown, Virginia Tech, [North] Carolina, NC State, and Marquette," Meeks said. "Georgetown is my favorite. They run that inside-out game that I like."

With over a year left until his signing period, Meeks is in no hurry to make a decision. He's playing this spring and summer with Team United and will be back in action this weekend in an AAU tournament down in Clemson... looking to impress college coaches and land more scholarship offers.

Now that the c-lab is open, a certain regular may soon be commenting on Kennedy's physique.

You mean the man-boobs?

I'm impressed by the list of schools that are interested and the offers he already has. I'm sure that is a reflection on his skill level, and the only real LU connection here is that he mentioned us in the list of schools who had "been by" As far as the fact that he weighs 260............................ based on that photo, I would say that at this point in his young life he would clearly be better off at about 230. maybe less.

Zero, but nice to see us targeting this type of player.
+1

never know, maybe one of these days they will strike with a big time player who fits with the school

This guy is alot similar to Josh Smith (UCLA) takes up space in the paint, little weaker but a better jump shot.

wants to go to a school that feeds the big man.
Clemson was represented by associate head coach Rick Ray. He was by West Charlotte High School to see Kennedy Meeks on the first day of the recent evaluation period.

Wake Forest, Louisville, Boston College, South Carolina, N.C. State, Xavier, Charlotte, Liberty and Gardner Webb also stopped through.

“I don’t know anything about them really,” Meeks told CUTigers.com about Clemson. “I played up there last weekend in a tournament.”

He was with Team United at the Big Shots tournament in Clemson.

“When I walked into the gym, it just felt like it would be a good atmosphere, like the crowd is into the game all the time, the coaches are good,” Meeks said. “It’s a good environment.”

A few things will be considered as he moves through the recruiting process.

“If they feed the ball to the big man, if they play an inside, out game” he said. “A lot of pick and rolls—stuff like that.”

Which schools are sticking out right now?

“Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Xavier, North Carolina, Clemson and UNC-Charlotte,” Meeks said.

The Scout.com three-star prospect has already received offers from Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Miami, UMass and North Florida.

He’s rated as the No. 4 center in the class of 2013.

As a sophomore, he averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds.
