The only way we got the spots reserved was if we showed up before the gates opened and were the first to get there. We reserved one row during football games but were still there before the gates opened. They allowed us to save our seats but we had to be there to save them. We actually lost our section for a football game in 07 because we didn't get there early enough. I don't mind saving seats, but you need to have someone in the front of the line that will get to those seats to save them.

We got there over an hour and a half before the gates opened and had guys that were about 6th in line to get the seats. I dont know how much earlier you would like us to get to the game but we didn't ask for Rachel to come out and get us and let us in early she came out got us and brought us in to get the seats should we tell her no? We came and we waited in line to "get our seats" and athletics were the ones that let us in and were the ones that roped off the seats we didn't even do that. There is no problem and no dispute here we helped them they helped us. We waited maybe not 2 or 3 hours your right because that is completely unnecessary because we have the athletic department saving our seats I think getting there over an hour and waiting outside in line is good if I am wrong then I am wrong but honestly for everyone sitting here worrying about what we are doing and how we are doing it its a little ridiculous. The beginning of this hate started with us being "self-centered" and not "supporting the team" we changed our shirt color to show you we aren't rebellious or self centered. We have looked here for ideas and support, we have been working with athletics to better support the school. What else do we have to do to get approval from you guys?

I was just responding to what you said about us. I have no clue what actually happened. I'm five hours away. If you were there early then by all means, save your seats. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

That post wasn't directed just at you I tried to answer your question and to also address all the haters out there in the rest of it. You know I have no problem with you SJ just trying to explain what really happened.

In a totally unrelated point to this argument, I got to meet Todd Harris after the game (no Bruce Bowen though)

I did not know that an I apologize. I agree with Sj that I have nothing wrong with you guys saving seats IF you guys get there early enough to do so. I know for a fact that you would not have gotten that section had it not been for athletics roping it off for you. I have nothing wrong with you guys and love the energy you guys bring (loved the who paid the refs sign today). Just sucks for the guys who were in line at ten (which was the case for the people in front of me) and then get stuck with sitting in the fourth row.
Don't mean to start a fight with you. My original post was about what I was hearing from everyone in the crowd. Keep up what you are doing. And thanks for finally wearing red.
On the matter of you guys helping athletics. I would love to help them with whatever they need just never been asked or have any way of knowing they are going to need help laying out thousands of papers

A bit, yes. He has his moments still, but he hasn't been as consistent.

I think his offensive game is just not there. It seems like he doesn't have the green light to shoot very often. I think he's got a solid jump shot from the elbow or from the free-throw area. I wish he'd take it more often.

I do think his defense has been improved though. He's usually responsible for guys who are 3-4 inches taller than him and he's done well when called upon, IMO.

There were a lot of things to take away from this game but the one thing that stood out is that we are still a smaller, physically weaker team than we need to be to get to the level we all want to be at. Recruiting will help with size and talent in the future. I hope everyone hits the weight room the moment the season ends and doesn't come out until Sept. We can have all the heart and hustle but that cannot overcome greater physical size and strength on a regular basis.

I want to add my props to the track team for their enthusiasm, and add that they made a good choice in not putting their "alternative dress code" in the middle of the red student section. Where they are, behind the band they don't spoil the unified look of the student section, and their antics can potentially distract opposing free throw shooters for half of the game. It seemed to work in the second half against Iona.

The track guys are a lot of fun...it really kinda energized the pep band (course they are already crazy enough). I think Iona missed like 6 or 7 free throws at one point when they shot toward the end with the pep band and the track team

well it finally reared it's ugly head in big way, but my first post about the team this year was that we were under sized and i was roasted for saying that. It's clear that we are undersized against quality mid major opponents (mason, CCU, Iona). Sure were big enough and atheltic enough to mix it up and out hustle most of the teams on our schedule, but not those kinda teams. It was just sad watching them take rebounds right off of our heads.

Don't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back based on one game Jenkins. This is the first time we have been beaten badly on the boards by a mid-major all year. The only other time was against a Big East team (South Florida) We outrebounded Texas Tech and held our own fairly well with Notre Dame. You cited GMU, which was indeed a bad game for us, but that was turnovers and defensive lapses. They only had 2 more rebounds than we did. CCU outrebounded us by a total of 6 boards in 2 games.

I am absolutely opposed to recruiting based on size, but I am excited that we should be a bigger and MORE TALENTED team next year with the addition of Baird, Smith, and possibly the kid from Poland.

And BTW, most of the flack we gave you before was about you saying our BACKCOURT is undersized. I guess Iona needs to recruit someone to play PG instead of that midget Machado.

It's not like Rodriguez (6'8" 235) and Glover (6'7" 215) are exactly giants either, but Rodriguez is a 5th year senior and Glover is a junior. Our bigs are freshmen and sophomores. Iona's entire roster is from NY and NJ. Tough kids who grew up playing basketball at a high level.

I did not see the bracketbuster game...I don't get ESPNU and I was sick. However, I saw the track team in their costumes the week before - was it UNC Asheville where they did the same thing?

THEY ARE AWESOME. They sit right behind the goal where the away team shoots free throws to end the game...it' s got to be crazy to look up at the bucket and see a whoopi cooshion, darth vader, and all those other goofy outfits.

I think they're awesome. IMO.

I like the random costumes. I don't think it's something for the entire student body to do but if a few guys want to dress stupid then by all means, go for it. I know that goes against my wear red stance, but it's freaking funny.

I mean even Duke who wants all their students to wear blue have the few groups that dress in insane costumes. For example they had speedo man

Jim, on Saturday, one guy was dressed in a bright yellow chicken costume, and most of the track guys were bare chested, wearing kilts, and waving plastic swords or clubs (thankfully, so sign of the plastic buttocks). And BJ was in front wearing his red bandana.

footnote: several members of the track team are also Honors Program students.

oldflame...do i really have to state that point again.. I said you could make the argument that we are outsized at every position. That's still the case, Jesse may be the one exeception what i said. The final box score rebound numbers dont tell hwo bad yesterday was. They called of teh dogs a bit in the second half. I dont care what the numbers say we have been hurt bad on the boards against Mason and Iona, just bigger faster stronger players. Part of our problem is still the youth but that Iona team was a rock solid squad.

Iona had a higher RPI, have nore experience, more height, played better than is usual for them + we ahave a lower RPI, less experience, less height and played below than usual for us = 20 point loss. My quick summary

OK Jenkins. We will all ignore the numbers in favor of your subjective opinion.

Did I say or imply that Iona did not dominate us on the boards? I don't think so, but just to avoid any confusion, I will say it now. Iona dominated us on the boards. Called off the dogs? They ran some clock in the last few minutes, but they had their top 7 or 8 players in the game right to the end. Doesn't matter anyway, because it is arguing a point that was already conceded.

What I was saying is that that one game does not come close to proving your point about us being undersized when compared with the job we have done rebounding all year long. A statement like "GMU hurt us on the boards" is too ambiguous to mean anything. We held our own on the boards with GMU, and it was not their size that hurt us. It was turnovers and defensive breakdowns, especially in transition.

Actually, it has been about 2 or 3 games. The "Original" Speedo man was sorta funny. However, subsequent "Speedo Men" have been chastigated by the student cheering sections for some of their tasteless antics. LOVE the cosumes, KEEP IT UP.

For all the posting and internal bickering about what students should do, wear, not wear, etc.. you guys got some student/fan recognition for your efforts...

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6143925
Best student section: Liberty was down more than 20 points, and when it cut Iona's lead to 18, I thought the roof was ready to come off the Vines Center. The students were loud and respectful. Well done.
Did the author know about the Vine's Roof problems?? Either way thats kinda funny..

Article also talked about CCU's Holloway ineligibity and if the decision will be made in time to affect this year's seedings/tourney venue (see the Who's Not section- 2/3 down the article)...

Good day- beat Winthrop!!
