(When our Quiz Bowl team was at East Carolina University last weekend, we noticed that ECU had a BOWLING ALLEY on campus in their student center. And our students were begging for one of those at LU. You can't get a much more wholesome activity than bowling! According to one of our players who is an alumna, even Pensacola Christian College as an on-campus bowling alley).

A bowling alley would be great, especially if we end up adding a bowling team before the decade is done.

lol...Liberty uses the AMF for bowling class (I think thats the one JDUB is referring too) so thatd be pretty cool if that happened

If I had the money, I'd buy that center, or build one on campus myself. It's cash waiting to happen, and would be good for recruiting students, athletic or not. Heck, I'd even manage the place if someone wanted to buy it but not run it. (Wink, wink, wealthy alumni).

it would be cool to see a farewell old school game played in the Schilling one last time before it is torn down.

And if someone takes TTL up on that i call dibs on assistant manager haha

also I realize we aren't an art school, but more upgrades to the VCAR program would be great... I'm taking classes back home at a community college and am a Photography major and the stuff i have learned in 8 classes here, I didnt learn in all my time in the VCAR program at Liberty... but I do think adding some faculty to the VCAR department that are more specialized would help as well

Actually, that AMF was in trouble for a while. LU's own Dr. Lindstra was hired to turn it around several years back.

I believe adding some more faculty in this department would be great. I can vouch for one specific member of the faculty whose credentials (both professional & academic) are off the charts who might be able to expand some opportunities sooner rather than later. He doesn't have anything to do with photography track.

Hancock is no more

http://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=18 ... um=twitter
Charles Spence, Liberty’s director of planning and new construction, said the site is an ideal place for a new welcome center, a sort of “main hub” for all visitor information.

“We’re hoping to make it one of Liberty’s finest buildings ever. It will give a very good first impression for all the visitors coming to Liberty,” he said.

The new location will place Liberty’s guests right across the street from the bookstore and within easy walking distance of the Carter-Glass Mansion and Williams Stadium.

Construction is set to begin March 1 on the new 32,000-square-foot facility, which will house a large meeting room, smaller rooms for meeting with students and parents, a museum and a theater.

Anyone know anything about the new dirt road that has been graded across the road from the Wingate hotel?

Cider Jim -

From JLFJR on Jan 24th:

"The road across from the Wingate was used to get the drill rig trucks in to test for rock. Amazingly, we found very little rock. However, we decided not to build any athletic/intramural fields on the site, at least, not now. Instead, we are installing turf on the existing IM fields at the south end of East Campus. The field behind Hancock will also get turf and lights. The IM fields in Campbell County (beyond the fields next to Campus East) will also be lighted. With those improvements, we will finally have enough fields to meet the demand for club sports, intramural and athletic needs (including women's field hockey and lacrosse)."

At one time the master plan called for intramural fields along with "traditional style" dorms to be built along 460 under the snowflex / monogram. Hopefully Liberty will still consider building more "traditional style" dorms. As a former youth pastor, I would advise my students to live in traditional dorms. East Campus Dorms are not as conducive to making friendships as are the "traditional dorms."

Personally, I believe all freshman and sophomores should be strongly encouraged (not a hard and fast rule) to live in a "traditional dorm." It's good for them (and their grades).

how are traditional dorms good for their grades? or better than East? I've never heard that argument before

While I understand the sentiment, I personally don't think it's a sad day at all. The fact that we have come so far that the building which was once the showpiece of our athletic department is now considered totally inadequate is exciting to me.

Yeah I think this new Visitors Center will be great. Right now the bookstore is used like a Visitors Center and it gets so crowded on football days. I think this will help alleviate some of that congestion. Also, they said they want this to be "one of our finest buildings ever". Should be a great building.

Thanks, Bama--great memory!

Seeing Hancock being torn down makes me feel ancient. I remember the pride in seeing that building going up and the excitement it was generating for our athletics as a whole. For it to a relic to be smashed down really puts the time period in perspective.
