it's kind of like when you fire a coach "because it goes beyond wins and losses." RU wouldnt want to lose a coach like Brad that has taken their program to where it is....but they would want to lose him if it might hit the fan as to how they got there.

Great point. Suddenly the wins of previous seasons is undetectable in the shadow of major violations. The NCAA tends to look the other way if the offending party is removed and drops off the map. We've probably all seen this before, sometimes without even realizing it.

I liked Brad on a personal level. It was always fun talking about Philly with him. He is a smart guy too. He will get another job if he chooses to coach again I think. I can't wait to hear the names on their short list. Former top big scorer Don Burgess knows his way around the Big South as he was an assistant at VMI and HPU and I think Coastal. Last I talked with him he was the head coach at Bridgewater (Division III)

Burgess would be a great hire and i think that RU may want to get a "Radford guy" to try and bring the program back. Burgess also coached at UCF and Coastal, and was instrumental in getting reggie williams to Lexington.

Late to the show here on the Don Burgess to Radford speculation.

To be quite frank, his tenure as the head coach at Bridgewater has been pitiful at best. Bridgewater was at least middle of the pack before Burgess went there, now under him they have settled in to the role of annually being the second worst team in the ODAC. The talent he has recruited there has been well below average, and I am being a bit lenient in saying just well below average. Not surprisingly, they have gotten worse each year (has been there three years) he has coached there as most of the talent Bill Leatherman (previous head coach) recruited there has been replaced by Burgess' recruits. This past season produced the fewest wins in Bridgewater history since the 1990 season and only the fourth time since 1986 that the team has failed to register double digit wins. He seems to be a very likable guy, but what what has been accomplished on-court under the Burgess tenure has been quite underwhelming. Honestly, as a fan of two different ODAC schools, I hope he stays in the ODAC a long time to ensure more Ws for my favorite teams.

Maybe he just isn't cut out for the DIII model and/or as a head coach. He obviously was a significantly better recruiter as a DI assistant. Count me in as one who thinks Radford made a sound decision to not hire Don Burgess.

Hanover grad Getter named top assistant at Radford

When former Virginia Commonwealth University assistant coach Mike Jones left for the head coaching job at Radford (Va.) University he didn't have to look far to find an assistant to help fill out his staff.

Jones on Friday hired away another member of VCU head coach Shaka Smart's staff when he tabbed former Hanover College assistant Kyle Getter as his top assistant.

Getter, a 2001 graduate of Hanover, worked with Jones at VCU during their NCAA Final Four run last season when he was the Ram's director of basketball operations.

"Kyle and I have worked together for the past two years at VCU and I have grown to respect him and what he does as much as anyone I've known," Jones said. "He is a terrific person, family man and extremely hard worker. He will be valuable in all aspects for our program, and we are very fortunate to have him."

While at VCU, Getter's duties included scheduling, travel, team meals, practice schedules, class schedules and team camps. Getter came to VCU from Liberty University and he was a top assistant at Walsh College in Ohio before that and the director of basketball operations at Marshall University under coach Ron Jirsa before that.

Kyle was my neighbor and and is a good friend. He was my connection to VCU basketball and he really got me plugged in over there. I had (maybe still have) media credentials because of him. He is a really good guy and will be a great addition to the Radford staff. Radford keeps hiring people that make it difficult for me to root against them. Brad Greenberg, Jeri Wiley and now Kyle Getter!

This makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy for Kyle and sad for my VCU connection leaving

The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions placed Radford University on probation for two years and disciplined its former men's basketball coaching staff -- as well as men's tennis coach Mike Anderson -- for what the committee called "major violations" in the men's basketball and men's tennis programs.

Following is the full list of penalties imposed on Radford by the NCAA, according to today's press release.
- Public reprimand and censure.
- Two years of probation from February 24, 2012, through February 23, 2014.
- Five-year show-cause penalty for the former head coach prohibiting any recruiting activity. The public report contains further details.
- Two-year show-cause penalty prohibiting any off-campus recruiting activity for the two former assistant coaches and director of operations. The public report contains further details.
- Suspension of the head tennis coach for two consecutive contests during the 2011 season (self-imposed by the university).
- Reduction of men’s basketball scholarships by a total of two during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years.
- Vacation of the four wins during the 2010-11 season when a student-athlete competed while ineligible. The public report includes further details.
- $2,000 penalty, equal to $500 for each time the student-athlete competed while ineligible.
- Reduction of two official paid visits in men’s basketball during the 2011-12 academic year (self-imposed by the university).
