My wife just called and said there are big black smoke clouds up near Liberty Ridge. She was passed by a L'burg PD car, and my son said he passed a State Trooper and other Emergency vehicles on his way down the mountain.

Just be aware and be safe, if you're headed that way.

Nothing is showing up on the WSET tower cam ...

Then again, it would probably be far off to the left side of the screen.

They have evacuated residents in Liberty Ridge. Evidently a fire broke out on the mountain and they tried to build a fire wall but didn't get it contained. News crews and emergency vehicles are on scene. Supposedly Candler's Mountain road is still open to traffic but LR is blocked off.

The very dry and windy conditions have left fire crews busy across the ABC 13 viewing area.

Crews in Campbell County are working a brush fire on Candlers Mountain Road. It's located near Liberty Village and the Liberty University paintball field. There is no word yet on how many acres are burning.

Sly, I'm pretty sure the picture there from WSET tower cam is not Candlers Mountain. That looks like up north of the Peaks of Otter where the old observatory is.

I've looked at the title of this thread a few times, and every time I think "...run boys, run! Devil's in the house of the rising sun!"

Sorry to bring humor to what is a serious topic, just wanted to point it out.

Nothing like a little Charlie Daniels reset to bring some levity to what is a serious situation

Well I know here in BoCo there's nothing but a burning wood smell everywhere. Usually I'd go running this time of day but the wind and the smell is just terrible. I was driving on 460 earlier and literally in front of me a tractor trailor literally got airbourne by a gust of wind. Fortunately it landed back on the wheels.

I know, but you have to admit it's irony at it's finest.

After the first joke it was like "ok, that's kind of humorous" then after the tenth joke you have to step back and realize that people were removed from their homes just a mile away from where you live and there was destruction. I'm not trying to over dramatise the situation but I'm also not trying to get a guest spot on Last Comic Standing

Last I heard they still hadn't let folks back in, so I dunno. I sure hope there's no damage.

I live in Liberty Ridge. We were evacuated around 3 PM. At 7 PM, they let in 3 cars at a time to spend 15 minutes to grab possessions. The fire is "contained" but not out, and the high winds pose a problem. I have been told that the houses on Macel dr have some smoke damage. When we got into our place, it smelled a little of smoke, but it was not too bad.

I am now in the lobby of the hotel, trying to finish my homework for tomorrow. I decided to take a quick break to see if FF was covering this topic.
