I don't agree with this... We are a much better TEAM this year... I actually could see this team sticking together during the off-season:) The only stat you need is 7-1! It's really that simple...

To add to the 7-1, in 2008 we finished with an RPI of 151. Right now we are 156. So, not only will we likely finish with a better conference record, we will also likely finish higher in the conference than we did in 2008, and likely finish with a better RPI. I don't see how you could say we don't have a better team.

Oh geez. 7-1. No Liberty team has ever done that. Of course, two of RD's teams had a 7-1 (one 8-1) stretch within conference play. Even the 08-09 team went 10-2 with 2OT losses over a period of time. 7-1 is great, but let's not forget the 3-6 Div I OOC record, or the fact that our 3 OOC wins are against teams with a combined record of 12-39.

I love where this team is at. I love the percieved stability and the way they are playing right now. I love that they play hard and they're consistent - it's easier to watch as a fan. Thank goodness football season is over. They are just not as good as the team two years ago and it doesn't bother me one bit.

Since we're throwing out our basketball credentials I once hosted an EA Sports NCAA Basketball tournament. I've also coached at the Division III level during my free trial of WhatIfSports.com. Oh, and I played in a weekly pickup league with a bunch of 40 year-old asians.

Qualified? Yes.

No we wont. Come on - haven't you watched the GPI in football? It DROPS during conference play for LOWER conferences.

Plus - It takes one loss at Chuck South to go from 2 to 3.

We are a better team this year (meaning everyone working together). We are more consistent this year.

With that being said, that team was more dangerous and more talented. One of three players could take over on any given night and lead us to a win. We have to grind everything out this year.

Either way, I'm loving the consistency and knowing exactly what we're gonna get every night.

You obviously don’t pay attention to our RPI in MBB. We started conference play at 192. We have since gone 5-1 and have moved up nearly 40 spots.

We still have 2 games with teams that have higher RPIs, one with nearly the same (158), and the bracketbuster game which could be a team with a higher RPI. If we keep winning, we'll keep moving up.

I guess you're planning to go 9-1 over the final 10? Even at 7-3 we'll be back close to 200.

If his name was Seth Scarboro or Seth Manson or Seth Dunton or Seth Meyer he would be playing D-2 or D-3 ball.

WOW!! :dontgetit

Curry doesn't play defense, but leads the team in steals. Maybe he isn't the best defender on the team, but he has to have SOME defensive skill to lead them in steals. Perhaps he cheats too much and gives up too much, but from the Duke games I've seen, he seems to be a pretty good defender.

Also....."all he did last night was make shots" and yet you think that he only got the opportunity to play at Duke (and obviously he only got playing time at Liberty) because his last name is Curry?

How is 21 minutes a game, not a ton of minutes for a transfer sophomore on the #1 team in the nation?

If he is as untalented as you say, 1) why are/were people upset when he left Liberty?, 2) why was he considered among all the leagues coaches as one of the best players in the Big South (of which I hope is better than D-2 or D-3 where you say he belongs), 3) why does a D-2 or D-3 caliber player getting significant time as a sophomore on the #1 team in the nation? Coach K is now buying into the "last name" hype as well?

I think bitterness has more to do with your opinion of Seth Curry than his actual talent.

Bottom line, as a Liberty fan, I'm glad that unappreciated High School kids are seeing Seth Curry's playing time at Duke, and hearing how he got to Duke through Liberty College (I too wish he had called it University). Those kids who don't seem to get the respect they deserve, and are talented, now have more of a reason to go to a smaller program like Liberty in hopes of jumping to a bigger D-I school later on. I have no problem with that, as not all of them who might come to LU will want to sit out a year to join a bigger program, and others may just fall in love with Liberty and decide to stay.

My opinion....Curry did the right thing. He will be a better equipped player by going to Duke. The NBA doesn't necessarily give preference to players from bigger programs, but I believe Europe likes the big names, and if Seth wants to coach someday, having been taught by Coach K adds A LOT to a resume IMO. If the NBA is in his future, going to Duke from Liberty doesn't hurt those dreams IMO. If he wants a career in basketball (Europe or coaching) I think his time at Duke helps him more than if he would have stayed at LU. Just my two cents.

Some of you have no actual hoop knowledge you just watch and cheer --- Curry wasnt impressive against UVA... Lucky he is playing since Irving is out... Read my earlier post in this thread I speak about sour grapes.... the kid and his family disrespected LU just like Conley did at VMI. America teaches to quit and change teams now days... mentality in america is lack of commitment.

i'm done with curry thread, he quit on Jesse, Smitty, KO, and rest of team 2 years ago. my 2 pennies

So in order to have "actual hoop knowledge" we have to agree with you? I guess you are truly are the king!

I commented on his talent. I don't care about his disrespect. If you do, that is called "sour grapes". Much of your opinion seems to be based on his "lack of commitment" and how "his family disrespected LU". Athletes are some of the scummiest people on the earth, but that doesn't mean they are "talentless". Curry is far from talentless.

SC is doing some impressive things as a sophomore at Duke. There is NO ONE that thinks that he isn't good enough to play at Duke. The biggest one of those is Coach K, who thinks he is so good, he rewards him with 20+ minutes a game. I don't care who is injured, that is an impressive amount of minutes on a top 5 team. Especially from a sophomore that is small and wasn't heavily recruited.

Yes I forgot that basketball was invented on top of Liberty moutain....by either Dale Gibson or Ed Gomes.
I am fairly certain Fast Eddy Gomes doesn't post here. As for Gibby, he has shown up once or twice :D

Of course, those Upward Basketball credentials you flaunt......impressive...just impressive.

You incorrectly assume that those mentioned in the previous post ONLY had experience at LU. Some of them had experiences at other universities etc. Just saying. I would think a "King" would have a better knowledge of his "subjects", unless they are really just the "Joker"

Hey, you try keeping a bunch of 5-year-olds running toward the right basket. Don't be hatin' on the Upward coaching skill set.

As a veteran of many youth games (some even played by college players!)... I heard the all time best quote.
"Coach? I like playing offense but I REALLY like playing defense. But I just get SOOO confused when I have to go from one to the other!"

Tonight vs. Boston College...

Seth Curry, G
Minutes:33
Points: 20
FGM-A: 6-9
3ptM-A: 5-7
FTM-A: 3-4
OREB: 2
REB: 2
AST: 3
STL: 3
BLK: 0
TO: 2
PF: 1

33 (and in the starting lineup) seems to be approaching "a ton of minutes" territory. And while he only had three steals tonight, that stat hardly tells the story. He lead the charge on defense tonight. Slide over to ESPN and watch their highlights from the game if you'd like to see for yourself.

Man, yeah, he can't play... I could have that stat line if I played for Duke too. He really should trannsfer to D3 if he hopes to get some real playing time...

Potential comebacks...

"It was just Boston College."

"One game does not a superstar make."

"He's still just a shooter."

Did I miss any?

I'd say for a sophomore he's looking pretty good right now.

He only had 3 steals
His post up game is really lacking
Needs to rebound more
20 pts is not that much for a career high
It is easier to look good playing at home
He isn't a great ball handler

I take back every bad thing I wrote about Curry...

he's the greatest, best ACC player, the family can do no wrong, the mom is hot, the dad couldn't miss and neither can his sons. Perfect family. And when he gets hot, yes he can make em.

(I got confidence Larry Blair could score in the ACC as well, let's not be naive to think Curry is only BSC player that could help an ACC school)

Funny thing is coach k benched him for Thornton last week and after last night 2nd half he's the best player in the ACC.

As time passes, I find myself wishing him to be successful more and more. Looking at his current situation, it's really hard for me to be too critical of his decision. When they were talking about how he had played the entire second half, and he had not played that many minutes before, I was thinking "wanna bet"? (50 minutes against GMU.)
