With Bah being moved from Fullback to DE do you all see the Flames going to a complete spread offense. He was the main fullback last year so why would they move their only returning fullback to defense if they werent planning on going to a spread attack like Oregon or Auburn. I think that would be a great offense for us. We have so many great WRs and Mike Brown at QB. It would be tough to stop. Our OL isnt big so lets just get them in shape and run the two minute offense all the time. Thoughts?

While you're right that we're a good spread team, Bah wasn't our main fullback. Gagliardi was. Bah moving doesn't necessarily signify a shift in the offense.

I like the idea to move to a true spread offense as long as you can find a place for Gagliardi on the field. He really showed some stuff last year.

I don’t see it happening. Rocco is a power running guy.

With no power backs. We've run a lot of counters/misdirection last year and I don't see that changing much, even with Aldrekis back.

Thats right, I forgot about Gagliardi. I still think we are going to see more of a spread attack. Why not put 4 WRs on the field at all times?!? Summers, Kelly, Garner, Hayes? With Eden too. I know Rocco is a power guy but the times have changed. Why dont we form an offense around the guys in the program!? If we had 300+ pound lineman and a true pocket passer than the power running game would be our game, but WE DONT! We have small lineman and a mobile QB. Lets use that to our advantage!

I agree. I would love to see a total spread offense this year. But Rocco has proven to be somewhat stubborn when it comes to a traditional running game.

I agree with you LUfan. I think that tweaking our offensive strategy a bit may be the key to finishing our "unfinished business. I am a big fan of the power running game that Rocco likes to run, but you hit the nail on the head. We don't have a powerful O-line and Mike Brown could hardly be considered a pocket passer. The faster moving spread offense would much better fit for our current roster and like I said I think it may push our team over the proverbial post season edge. Unfortunately I think that Rocco is pretty set in his ways and with a Fullback that did have a good season last year I don't think that Rocco will see any reason to change. Maybe he will have a change of heart and next season we will see a true spread offense come to Williams Stadium, for now we will just have to wait and see.

We throw to our tight ends about once every other game. I would love to see us utilize them more, but if we aren't going to, we might as well either go with a spread and an extra WR or use an extra O-Lineman for blocking.

Rocco's not changing his style... We will see the same exciting offense as the last few years. I just hope we see a few more wrinkles added to the mix and more spread formations. If(When) we remain a power running team, then I think Brown should move back to WR and get a pocket passer in there... IMHO.

The QB is not the problem, the OL is.

Sure our o-line had serious issues, but was our offense really the problem last year? Why change an offense that had no trouble scoring? How about focusing on a defense that was giving it up to teams who had no business competing with us. We gave up, what, about 20 points a game? That's not very good.

First off, the offense is the least of our worries. Improving our pass defense is the #1 priority.

As for Coach Rocco's love of the power running game, I support it 100%. I think we all saw how difficult it was for us this past season when we couldn't effectively run between the tackles. Hopefully the return of Aldreakis and a year under the belt of Chauncey & Korrey will help alleviate those issues. But for all intents & purposes, we have operated a spread-style offense the past couple of years under Streeter. While we may not start with 4 wideouts, we are utilizing our players in a spread fashion across the field. In essence, we run a bit of a hybrid spread. But I do see some value in moving the pocket for Mike if our O-line has struggles this fall.

i dont think we can make any assumptions about how the offense will look because so much 80% of the line will be new starters. If they mesh well and develop and Allen returns with Gagliardi at FB we could run the ball much better. If it turns out that our line is sketch like last year we will probably go to more spread than we did this year. Here's to hoping our O-line can get together and work it out the next 7 months so we can have that effective running game again.

2 of our O-Line made the VA SID all state team so we do have some talent there. Could it be that there is a big dropoff in talent after Alex and Justin? I am hoping for some big improvement from our Sophomores such as Weatherington, Boyd, Herring, Lundy and if we could get some good play from some of the first year players such as Jones, Mondor, Tomlin, or Sellman we might actually improve there and hoping for a late 1A transfer to fill whateve holes we need to fill.

We should definely improve in our pass defense with what we have there now in the secondar and with Aikens coming in. Fogg, Hobby, Lillard, Mayo, and Vinson are young and have some upside. I think that that will be the position that will show the most improvement for next year.

Stevev Im not saying our OL is bad! Our OL has some great talent. Im just saying that our OL isnt huge guys that can power run the ball on teams like JMU. It showed last year in the JMU game. We could not run the ball. Yes they are talented. They are smaller but quick and Kill Bill has those guys in shape! Lets use it and spread it out.

will never happen under this regime, they cannot improvise and think rashard is still the rb.
another season same results, offense don't show up in big games and they won't this year either.
they can score it up on non playoff type teams tho. remains the same until we get new offesne coaches.

Have we ever had a RB named Rashard? Don't think so.

Even if he was being serious (like was mentioned in the other thread, this is likely someone on the board stirring up some trouble), this is hardly a bannable offense.

You're the reason people post things like this. If I thought I could get away with it anymore, I'd bug the crap out of all of you with one of these fake names like Sch14 or whoever else is using now.

The Golden Rocco shall remain our idol until he leaves to coach Florida. Amen.
