I think it's a solid hire. We'll see how recruits respond, tho.

Or when Gene Chizik was hired by Auburn?

I'm 99% sure Meyer assisted in the hiring process. I think that the AD listened to Meyer's 2 cents when it came to the search so apparently Meyer thinks that Muschamp can get it done.

Oh yeah, Texas is your typical 5-6 mediocre program.

Muschamp was being paid megabucks by UT to be Mack's heir apparent. Otherwise he would have been a head man somewhere else a long time ago. Most schools couldn't afford to hire him away from Texas. Obvious the Gators are an attractive enough opening to pull it off ... although apparently Bib Stoops wasn't overly impressed.

Hours after the Muschamp announcement, the Rivals site came out with some apparently inaccurate info that Major Applewhite was following Muschamp to Gainesville to be his OC. The burnt orange community was in sheer chaos.

It is interesting to note that the OC & DC from LSU's '03 championship are now the head coaches in Tallahassee & Gainesville. And I think most agree that the "Head Coach in Waiting" concept has proven to be a disaster in most instances thus far.

Haha, if Applewhite came to Florida, that would be awesome.

ESPECIALLY if Florida then went on to beat the Horns in a BCS Title game in the future. ;-)

They say Saban's coaching tree is the hottest thing right now in college football.

Ron zook was a great recruiter as well look where that got us. florida can get the talented players from the name and location alone. I just dont understand this at all. i still truly believe this whole thing with meyer leaving is bc of addazio and foley.

Like I said jack...9-10 wins and an SEC title and teh upset Florida fans will be kissing the ground he walks on and he will not have to buy a single meal in Gainesville (any less and theyll be asking for their pitchforks)

Meyer set the bar for future coaches pretty high. By the way, before this year and at the beginning people were calling for Gene's job at Auburn. I'll be optimistic, but he needs to get a decent OC in there. Offense wins games in the SEC.

Major's denying it because he is up for the OC job at UT.

Interesting you guys would be mentioning Chizik in same breath as Muschamp because one just followed the other as UT DC. Word on the street is that Randy Shannon is likely to be next UT DC.

So does that mean he is the leading candidate at both schools?

That's the impression I am getting from 3rd hand sources ... to a certain degree. UT doesn't plan to make Major the OC unless Muschamp offers him that position. Boise St. OC Bryan Harsin appears to be the man that mack is currently considering as top candidate for UT OC.

Muschamp reportedly is trying to get UT Assoc. Head Coach & Co-defensive Coordinator Duane Akina to come with him to Florida to be DC for the Gators well.

Everybody is acting like the Randy Shannon hiring in Austin is a done deal. And yet ...

Randy shannon is a pretty classy guy and a decent coach from whar ive heard and read. Sports illustrated did a great article on him a few years back. Speaking of which, i think miami made a poor decision as well today. I heard they hired him for his off the field and graduation rate, but shannon ran a pretty clean ship and rurning the academics around. im suprised coach levitt name hasnt been thrown around for what he did at usf.

Since Urbie resigned and will have a new office down the hall from Muschamp. This is what it will look like.
