I really find this topic to be one of the most intriguing topics there is for the football program. Would it be bad to start a FCS to FBS discussion thread in the football section? I'm sort of new to the forum so I'm not sure if the topic has been covered ad nauseam, but I feel like moving to the FBS is sort of the new "construction thread" now that phase 1 is over. Plus it seems that the move is becoming more and more of a reality every day, just a matter of when.

We've talked about it a ton on here over the years. Use the search tool up top.

But that doesn't mean we won't keep talking about it some more...you're not the only one who gets excited when they think of LU playing FBS football :D

So, can we all now agree that FCS success is not necessary?

I would agree with this. The only thing that is necessary to have success at the next level is $$$ and lots of them.

Hey I saw you at the game! :D I'm guessing you couldn't find a seat on the student side either haha. Oh and on topic...If our attendance keeps up around 20,000 that's just one more thing to add to our resume 8)

http://www.rgj.com/article/20101029/SPO ... 018/SPORTS

The article I posted speaks of the WAC realignment. It looks like with all this realignment it's quite obvious a few west coast FCS schools will get a shot at moving up to the FBS level. Hopefully an opportunity like that comes up for Liberty relatively soon. I just don't have any idea how it might happen on the east coast.

It looks like TCU, Central Florida, and Villanova are candidates. If Conference USA wanted to make up that lost spot would Liberty have any shot? That would be awesome, at least in my eyes.
Yes! I honestly don't have any idea if we'd have a shot or not. Someone explain why we do or don't. :)

I would imagine it would be very very unlikely, as UCF isn't even for sure talking to the Big East, however one day there will be a scenario like this that leads to Liberty being in the FBS. Just a matter of time...

I thought others would have more to say about this topic as I've been waiting for some realignment to hit the east coast for awhile now.

Absolutely not. The SoCon without Appy offers little advantage over our current situation. Let's aim higher.

I don't see a benefit to joining the SoCon without Appy. Yeah, basketabll might improve with Davidson and CoC on the schedule, but it would almost be a lateral football move with Stony Brook and Coastal progressively improving.

The SoCon would be a step up in football. And it wouldn't even be close.
