Have you seen the size of those BCS checks??? That will further any vision effectively

Touche.

Although...what conference would you be in? You don't want to be in the awkward position of making money for some pagan heathen institution like Miami - or, God forbid, Tech - do you?

It don't matter we only need the conference for the invite after a few years we can ditch them for Independent status can't let ND and BYU outdo us you know.

I think you guys are confused about making money vs losing less money.

Because Students don't pay $2,500 donations to have access to the club level.

No if your football team is playing in BCS bowls regularly you will be making money.

That's just not true. Will they make money from the bowl game? Absolutely! Will they make more revenue from national exposure and contracts from a bowl game. Absolutely. However, being in bowl games means nothing when it comes to an Athletic Department as a whole being in the red or black. There are more bowl games than ever now. How many FBS teams make bowl games? 1/2? That's purely a guess however I do know the latest numbers I've seen from how many Athletic programs are in the black is MAYBE 20-25 (total not percent). So that percent is far less than those that make bowl game

EDIT: I looked up the numbers:

34 Bowl games, so 68 out of the 120 FBS teams played in a bowl game (57% Not bad for a guess 8) )

25 of the 119 FBS schools (Not just football) made money (2009 count which was when they had 119 teams instead of 120)

So 4-5 teams. Yes, those 4-5 teams/programs would generally be making money.

That was the point in our hypothetical (the one littered with    as to assure people we weren't worried about it happening tomorrow) :P

I just wanted to make sure everyones expectations are in check, that's all. It's a stretch for us to be compared to consistent FCS teams...not to mention the elite of the FBS :D That's all...carry on

That's just Football!

The Athletic budget is over $75million!

I saw something about Neb bringing in revenue of 74.8 million in total revenue and spending around $75 Although I do give them a lot of credit b/c most are losing crazy amounts of money while they are finding a way to break even while having a fairly reasonable budget considering other schools that would be comparable are spending $100M/yr

BuryYourDuke wrote:What a mess title ix has made of the world. Schools forced in all these sports they really don't want to the point of going broke. The sports they do want have to foot the bill instead of supporting things like bettering the school. I hate the federal government.
Sometimes I get hopeful because I think I'm not apologizing as much anymore for the arrogance and ignorance of my gender quite as often. But then some dude makes an asinine statement like this to reassure me.

Most of us on this website and reading this thread - even you, BYD, I would surmise - enjoy sports for even more than the entertainment value it provides. We enjoy sports for the life lessons they teach us. If any of us tried, we could probably think of a sports analogy for just about anything in life that occurs. In the great liberal arts tradition of American collegiate education, athletics is one of many avenues for learning and opportunity. What Title IX did was ensure that the broad spectrum of opportunity afforded an individual participating in sport was not limited to a select few. And it allplays a huge part in, as you say BYD, "bettering the university."

Whether you're a fan of men's track & field and women's soccer or not, Title IX has been and continues to be a monumental piece of legislation that has grossly enhanced the educational experience of hundreds of thousands of individuals not unlike yourself.

You did not here about that one recruit that had offers from "blahzay blahzay" and wanted to be a pastor so he came to LU to play football. We are competing with them.

If i may go back a couple days in this conversation what if the Athletics department did a campaign promoting solitary devotion to LU? Something to the effect of making Liberty your number one or something like that. I can't think of any catchy names but could this be something that would let the students know our intentions to be their only team?
