Saw some fellow students at the soccer game tonight wearing their Carolina blue...incredibly moronic and disrespectful. I am sure UNC has quite a few Christian organizations on campus - transfer to Chapel Hill if you like it so much!!

Back to football - until we move up to FBS and start beating some of the teams our students root for before Liberty (UVA / Tech / UNC) we'll keep having the same problem.

My guess is that any Tech fans are real, real lonely at James Madison right now.

I was watching the game from the press box porch and there was a UNC fan next to me. I wanted to throw him over the rail.

I talked to my buddy today. He's a West Virginia fan. I asked him why he left the game on Saturday. He said, "The Michigan vs. Michigan State game was on, and he wanted to catch it". Of course I flipped at him, and eventually asked him why he didn't just go to WVU or anywhere else for that matter. He explained that he wanted to come here because we're a Christian school, and he would get caught up in the wrong crowd at WVU etc. I explained to him that LU is his school now, and he needs to grow a pair and be a fan of his school. He blew me off.

Lord knows I feel the same way you do, and would have instinctively reacted the same way. Heck, I've grown up on college campuses, and currently work at a "mid-major", and I see STUDENT-ATHLETES in gear from other larger schools, or ones closer to home. It really irritates me.

I wonder, though, if we risk alienating fans like the one described above by coming off too harshly in support of LU?

Its been a while..... what up flamefans....... :D .

An appearance in the Semis or Finals would fix these problems. That being said, I have slim to no issues with students cheering and supporting other schools. We are not that big of a product yet. And the UVA, Tech, and others are really not our competition. They are a different league. Smoothie keeps a nice balance.

My wife is a UM alumn and we have season tickets there but every Saturday we are at LU for the game. We are a bit bias as our son is playing but i have been to the big house numerous times and the game experience at LU is second to none. None of my Michigan gear see the light of day anymore. Our youngest son just applied to LU.

Can you have one team for FBS, and one for FCS, and one for the NFL. As they are all different leagues, and nothing that UVA, nor the New England Patriots do will prohibit us from winning our National Championship.

Until compete for a FCS championship , or move to FBS, do i expcect the culture to change. I do not support any other schools BTW.

I think the 2 do conflict. They're playing on the same day and 9 out of 10 times at the same exact time. Do you leave the LU game early/get there late to catch the other game? Do you wear your FBS gear that day instead of your LU gear? Are you sticking it to other people because your FBS team just won when you could be sticking it to them about LU, generating a little more buzz about the program? Some of this seems a little petty but every little thing could make a difference.

These things will not stop happening until we have a better product. Which is one of two things in my opinion,

1.) FBS confrence

2.) FCS title contender- we have never made the playoffs.

JMU has won a National Title, and the tech fans at the school are numerous. Its like convincing a kid to play with his bike , while tommy down the street is on a dirtbike.

i have been a UVA season ticket holder for a long time...save the jokes, but LU is always first. if i have a conflict in a game time i always go to LU first. if i can do both in the same day i do, but i have that freedom. you can certainly have another school you follow, but in my mind LU is first. it will always be a battle though. i have a friend who graduated from LU but is a huge UNC fan and he would rather go to tar heels games and post on their message boards than come to an LU game....i dontreally understand it.

No, I don't think you can, at least not in Virginia. We do compete against these teams(tech/UVA) - recruiting, fan base, media, donors, exposure in general. Tech and UVA can absolutely help prohibit us from winning a title for the aforementioned reasons. If we're in a recruiting battle for a stud athlete with Tech or UVA and LU fans think it's still "ok" to root for them because they're in a "different league" they are out of their minds. Again - transfer if they like it so much.

I didn't spend my time reading every post on here, frankly because you all write too much  . But here's my deal with FBS and FCS. I grew up a Va. Tech fan. I still pull for them every Saturday, and I still am excited for the (possible) day of them winning a national title. I went to the Tech/Boise game, just to give you an idea... during spiritual emphasis week (and I'm an RA - that's not supposed to happen). So I like Tech a lot. But I go to Liberty University. Home of the Flames. I am more proud to call myself a Flames fan than any other sporting team in any other league in the world. I'm a diehard. I don't expect every student at LU to be like me or KBM (or the likes), but what I do expect, as much as many others expect as well, is that you better be pulling for YOUR OWN SCHOOL's team. Whether you came here because of the Christian atmosphere (which many do), or you came here for academics, or athletics, Liberty University is your school, and your team, and LU represents you, and vice versa. So rep well. That's all I ask. The WVU fan that I was raggin on is on my hall, so I didn't tear down any bridges or anything like that. He went with me to the JMU game actually, and explained that he got angry at a student on the LU campus who was wearing a JMU shirt. He said people shouldn't wear rival school shirts like that. I agreed, but said it was a bigger issue than just rivals. Anyway, I've ranted enough... continue.

Easy up there big dog. While I love LU. Lets choose our battles. Maybe I'm way out of the loop but how many "stud athletes" are we competeing against VT and UVA? I know some of you are all over this more than me but it can't be that many? Because like it or not even to the athletes that play football at LCA think of LU as not being "true" division 1. Again love LU and it should be your number 1 team if you're an alum but to say you can't chear for anyother FBS team is kinda bull.

Look at Grant Jones. If you go on ESPN right now, it shows him considering VT,UVA, and some other big namers... Obviously this is just one instance, but it is competition nonetheless. Also look at athletes that have transfered here. Quite a few guys from Tech, UVA, and other big namers from the Big East - Rashad, and Bigger Ten. It happens.

I know three things -

1. The goal for this place is to win a BCS national title.
2. To do that we need to out recruit the likes of VT, etc.
3. It's never too early to start.

Again, I'm not sure how someone could support Tech over Liberty knowing the above the statements to be true (they are). If you're an Oregon fan, fine, I doubt we'll be recruiting against them any time soon, but to win at the FBS level we need to out recruit the FBS schools in our state. If kids want a Christian environment and want to root for VT there are plenty of small schools where you can do that. The vision of this place is far bigger - national championships in all sports, football with a national following, etc. Perhaps our fellow students need to be educated as to what it is exactly that our school is trying to do here?

There's a guy on this board that graduated from LU and PLAYED ON THE TEAM that would rather go to tar heel games. That has always dumbfounded me.

If GJ has a full ride offer from VT and chooses to come to LU he will one of the first. Transfering from a BCS school and coming to LU is totally different situation.

Lot's of players with offers from FBS schools come to FCS schools. That's how FCS schools keep winning games against the FBS. The talent pool is being spread out more, b/c players realize they can go FCS and play almost right away rather than sit and watch for 2 or 3 years. FBS is deeper, but more and more, the starters in FCS are on point with FBS.

So yes, we are DEFINITELY competing for talent with VT and UVA.
By offer you mean full ride scholy right? not a walk on offer?

Switchfoot is one band I was thinking about -- I'd stick around for that one. Skillet, too.

Project 86 ...... Disciple ........ I'd stick around for them after the game. They'd probably motivate me to head down from Ohio for a non-Homecoming game.

That opinion has changed. It just takes time. Once I started getting more involved with athletics here....well, it made a difference. Perhaps that's the thing....students/faculty/staff need to make an effort on their part. I think going to the game at Wake Forest really got the ball rolling for me. To see my alma mater taking on a team (and playing fairly well) that the Tar Heels play all the time.

I do love the Tar Heels, & I'll continue to cheer for them.............................unless, they are playing LU. I couldn't make the soccer game last night, but if I could, there is no doubt that I would have been wearing red & cheering for LU.
