I've always liked the old eagle logo. Where is the best place to pick up gear with him on it?
the old eagle logo i have no idea, but the fighting eagle is usually on plenty of stuff at the bookstore, i have like 2 hats, a few hoodies and a few t shirts with it on

Kids liked the "old" Sparky. So do my wife and I. I hate to see our football coaches get a hold of the San Diego Chicken. Or the Pirate Parrot. These mascots appeal to a family environment IMHO. An angry looking bird is not necessarily going to make the teams play any better, again IMHO.

I think college students like it more for the most part. They want an intimidating mascot like Coastal's is. College student's don't usually want a kids play thing.

I agree. I think the angry Eagle, as I will call Sparky, is appealing to the students. I'm just thinking about the "community" side of the stadium where all the little kids and families sit. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the menacing face as he walks among the Baptists :x . It seems that his repertoire of behaviors which are comical and cute will be limited. It's hard to use some of those "schtick" things that we had grown accustomed to in the past. I do understand it is a new era and I can live with the new Sparky. Just wopuld like to share my personal opinion. My wife said I'm expressing hers as well

Yeah, I think it is safe to safe that the Sparky decision was based based primarily on students. I like the beefed up look of the new Sparky but I fear my little girls are going to be scared to death if he walks down our aisle. Perhaps a happy medium would be the friendly face with the leaner body.

I also assume the new Sparky primarily hung on the Student side of the field. Correct?

I never saw him anywhere but the student side. But I think the kids will get use to him. Sparky needs to go out of his way to meet with kids and be extremely friendly and playful with them though.

The new Sparky was practically being mobbed as he was walking up the stairs where we were sitting......by little 8 year old girls!!! Poor Sparky, he probably had to go to the bathroom but had to hold it so that he could get his picture taken with all the kids. I don't think anyone has anything to fear.

Are those dreads on top of his head? Looks like Vince Red's hair

My kids, 2 and 4, both met him and liked him. They told me that they liked the old smiling Sparky better though.

If the new leaner-and-meaner Sparky isn't a hit, here's an idea to revert to the former Sparky. He could gradually add a few pounds with each and every game until he is sufficiently flabby again. At least I know that's the way it works with me every time I lose weight.

You'd think someone at LU has seen an Eagle mascot before, like something similar to the one at the top of Flamesfan or like the BC mascot.

Also, is our bird donning a Jeffersonian wig?

Sparky spent some time on the Baptist side -- I saw him getting pictures taken near where I was sitting. But it looked like he spent most of the game on the student side.

And yeah -- the first thing I thought of when I saw his head was "Does Sparky have dreads??!"

This is spot on.

I'm surpised no one has commented on Sparky's new profile (in regard to his perky tail feathers).

I personally like the non-dress wearing Sparky. He isn't as "cute" as in the past, but the sports that he is a mascot for arn't really that cute either.... Sweaty men and women arn't that cute. lol

I think that he gives Liberty a more intense first impression, which doesn't mean not friendly. I think if Sparky is cautious around children all will be well.

Only thing I don't like is his big feet, he kinda walks like a chicken  .

P.S. I hope the fireworks on the FOC are a "tradition" now, I am ADD and really like lights and loud noises.

When he ran out, I immediately recognized that he was supposed to look like the angry eagle logo, but I was a little disappointed that he didn't do the "stance" when he got to midfield. That would have been awesome. That could be his heisman pose.

I like that idea. I'd also like him to tackle the red jacket guy. Is it ok for the mascot to attack one of our own. It would be like the "wedding thread" at Williams Stadium.

For those of you who are relatively new to LU and sparky, this is his evolution, as far as I know

??? - 2005 (I don't think this guy had a name)

Anybody know of an earlier version of Sparky?
