You guys lost to a Hofstra program that was so bad that it no longer exists...what's your excuse? See how this can work?

yup. our first loss to a team we should have beaten since 2005 against Coastal Carolina. Probably got too cocky with the 55-0 win the previous year. Could have been the Mickster continuing to rotate QBs. but Hofstra wasn't so bad. they actually had a respectable year last year.
You guys lost to Coastal? From the BigSouth conference? No way - how is that possible? :)

It must have been Coastal's super bowl that year. :P

And I'm saying that's a leap given one school has played 3 games and the other has one full season under the belt. Time willl tell.

as much as I hate to say this, but I agree...It won't make the CAA a lot better, but it is an improvement that is for sure...

As for your snide comments about us losing to Robert Morris..thats fine, we deserve it, but if (and its a big IF) we end up beating JMU this weekend I hope you don't act like most fans and not show your face around here...

It's amazing how quickly JMU fans forget that they've been good for 5 or 6 years. You would think by listening to them that they were App State or something.

well we made the playoffs a few times in the 1990s and have been pretty good since 2004. If you were to make a list of the top programs this decade I think it would go...

App State
Montana
Richmond
Delaware
Villanova
JMU
Georgia Southern

So yea, I think we've been good and I think we can talk. Liberty, while improving, wouldn't make the Top 20 on this list.

you're right..we aren't there yet, but the majority of this board knows that. Yes,there are some idiots on this board that think we are great right now..but for the most part people recognize that we are still in need of some work to get to the point of being a great program.

So don't come on here acting like JMU is king of the world and not expect people to say something about it.

JMU has a very good program, and they are only going to get better..but come on, you aren't as good as you think you are. You are like the posters on here that think we would do find in I-A right now! Its crazy...

I hope that the JMU football team is thinking we are just some little "up and coming" program like you do

I think you make fair point there.

But this argument has gone around the world and back again - so lets get back to your rebuttle to my stance. You challenged my original comments that the BigSouth would hopefully close the gap with the CAA - and I think it has improved and by virtue of that improvement has closed the gap to some degree. You said you didn't think the gap had closed at all and pointed to GSU and ODU as factors for the widening of the gap. I countered by saying the auto bid alone helps the BSC in getting closer and that the fact the BSC was able to beat 2 MAC schools in the same weekend spoke volumes in terms of how far the conference has come. I also pointed out that GSU has played 3 games and ODU has played one full season so I'm not sure you can make that definitive of a statement just yet.

So where do we go from here? I'll say the CAA top to bottom is the best FCS conference in the country. I'll say FCS football in the east is as good as it gets - the SoCon isn't a flop either. I'll say that the BSC has improved over the last 5 years and the auto bid will help Liberty and the conference overall tremendously. I'll say ODU and GSU have potential to be better than NU and Hofstra. I'll also say the BSC's weekend vs. the MAC speaks to improvement within the conference.

What say you?

I'm pretty sure JMU's football team won't think of LU as just some little "up and coming" program, the proof is in the 3 quarter battle from last season before JMU got a little lead and LU had to go to the air in the monsoon.

yeah, how DARE Mickey imply this is one of your most important games of the year  I mean c'mon. if you knew anything about Mickey you'd know he loves to exaggerate and be funny. Obviously your biggest goal this year is to get the playoffs, but this is by far your single most important regular season game.

HarrisburgFlame:

The CAA has had JMU, Delaware, Villanova, Richmond win the National Championship since 2003, with UMass, and Delaware making it to the finals to lose to App State. So over 7 seasons, we have had 4 National champions and 2 second place finishes, 6 of the 7 national championships have featured a CAA team. Every season it seems like the FCS is becoming more and more of the CAA Invitational plus App and Montana (not my words).

Big South is improving and has improved a lot over the last 5 years.. Coastal made the playoffs, Liberty and Stony Brook are competitive. The conference has been awarded an auto-bid. The weekend against the MAC was impressive. and from what it looks like you guys straight up beat Ball State.

This season will be a good starting point to really see if the Big South is closing the gap against the CAA since you guys (BSC team or Liberty) get a bid and likely a first round game against a CAA team, maybe a SoCon team. Up until this year it has been really tough to compare since BSC didn't get a bid and only a few games against VMI and Liberty were all you could draw from.

I will say you guys are definitely closing the gap on the SoCon.

LU fans aren't good at this whole "dealing with opponents who actually have fans and a coach who talk" thing...

Some panties are in a serious bunch. The fact that you're all so wound up gives more credit to MM saying it's our Super Bowl. Chill out and don't pull apart every sentence from a JMU player, coach, or fan and give it the 3rd degree. We say things much more ignorant than what MM "allegedly" implied. Give it a break. This is our biggest regular season game this season. Without exception. This is a game for recruiting, for bragging rights, for taking a first step towards TRUE national recognition. This is put up or shut up in the "Does LU belong in the CAA?" debate. This IS our regular season Super Bowl. This is a big deal. We need to play that way, like this is a game we can, should, and must win. Because the Super Bowl isn't a David trying to beat a Goliath, it's two of the best teams in the NFL. And this game will be like a dominant AFC team that's 18-0 taking on an NFC team given little to no chance.

Does David Tyree have any college eligibility left? :)

Literally no college team will ever play in the Super Bowl, unless USC decides to make the jump to the NFL and is forced to deal with that pesky salary cap that they didn't have to deal with in college...

Thanks for taking a shot at “your” fellow fans. Talking to them like they’re stupid and lower than you.

well yes it was obvious I needed to clarify that MM was simply getting the point across that this was LU's game of the year. it's okay, you just don't know Mickey ;)

I was pretty clear in what I said in my post. You all are a better program then we are, without a doubt, but not nearly as great of a program as you make JMU out to be.

so if you can't figure that you then I am not sure what to tell ya...

Dude if you are going to post something like this then you should probably also throw in there that you are guilty of doing this as well. You go off the deep end often about things all the time...its a message board, its what makes things fun..I love arguing with people on here..its a great distraction from work...

I mean...I wouldn't dare post here from work...you didn't see that
