Our offense has statistically been among the best in FCS the past few years. We have a stud QB, a stud WR and a slew of young players all over the offensive side of the ball. Defensively we improved from week one to week two against the run. We've gave up some big plays through the air Saturday but as a whole our defense is pretty solid across the board. We have a consensus All-American kicker who surprisingly missed a pair of long FG attempts this past week.

Our head coach Danny Rocco has terrific credentials as an assistant and has proven he is the real deal in his first head coaching position. Our recruiting has been strong the past few years and historically we have had a knack for finding some hidden gems (like our QB Mike Brown) who have slipped through the cracks for the majors.

I have no idea how many LU fans will show up this Saturday. We have a strong alumni presence int he Pittsburgh area as well in the Tri-State area. Hopefully we'll have a good contingent of fans who normally couldn't make it down to Lynchburg for games.

I assume the alumni tent makes the trip. How big is the Pittsburgh chapter?

And this would seem like a great place to meet up with Harrisburg Flame. I miss that guy's enthusiasm around here.

We'll use the Flames Club tent. The only game that we're looking to take the Alumni Tent and Flame Club tent is JMU, and I'm not sure if that's in stone yet.

Pittsburgh doesnt have a chapter, closest would be Leigh Valley

We do have one in Uniontown which is a little closer. Hopefully they get something together and make the trip. I'm rarely involved with chapters now with the new responsibilities

Here is a quick breakdown of the Colonials I did after camp:

The 2010 Defense has a lot of depth and is fast. They are quick to the ball and if DiMichele is there one on one, you are getting tackled. The scrimmage on Saturday is configured so that the Offense has the advantage meaning that the D cannot blitz. The 1st team offense moved the ball at first but a great INT by Landers stopped the 1st drive. I believe the D overall had 4 takeaways for the entire scrimmage…maybe 5.
I didn’t spend much time looking at the D on Friday & Saturday except for when it was team drills. But like I said…very fast physical Defense that is going to give a lot of teams headaches this year.
OL
Sam Miller & Logan Miles have been battling all camp it seems for the starting center position. You would think that it’s Sam job to lose but Logan got us as many reps with the first team as Sam. It will be interesting to see who the coaches slate as the starting Center for Dayton.
No A.J. Dalton at camp. It seems that he is dealing with some NCAA Clearing-House issues which is dang shame. It seems that AJ could have cracked the starting lineup as a true FR and be a 4 year starter for the Colonials. I assume AJ will be back in the Spring and still have 4 years to play.
RB
Russ & Link are ‘Farving’ it at camp…just kidding. They were both told to get ready for Dayton and they both will be ready. Deontae Howard will be a good player for the Colonials but I don’t see him contributing this year in the backfield. I see him on special teams mostly. I could see by mid season that Monty Ashby (who will be wearing #8) being the backup to Russ. Monty looked very good out there during the scrimmage when he got his chance to run with the 1s. It’s safe to say that the RB position after Russ is in very good hands.
TE / WR
TJ Green is finally playing like we had all hope. He is catching everything his way and using his 6’4″ frame to his advantage. I’m hoping for a big year for from TJ. Cobb looks like a player on the field but I saw him drop a sure TD that JT Kirk would never drop. But there are talks that Cobb was not 100% but he should be flying around for Dayton. AC looks good out there as well and there is a new face with the WRs….Kevin Quinn. It seems that Kevin is still having shoulder issues and there is just no way he could help the team as a QB. Kevin is a great kid and was all smiles out on the field. Kevin is an athlete and perhaps if he can gets comfortable at WR that he could help contribute on the field.
Now lets talk about Jeter. Jeter has made a ton of highlight reel catches all camp but he is on the bubble on whether he will travel to Dayton. He still makes mistakes out there on certain plays. Is he worth the risk? I would like to see him at least travel and play special teams out there. Get him use to the speed of the game….perhaps in time he could be a slot WR in the Colonials 4 wide set.
Shadrae King is a ‘man’ out there when catching the ball. He still needs to work on his run blocking and his pass blocking. He got beat on Saturday for a sack that stopped the drive. But he should have a monster year for the Colonials. Tyler Digby seems to have broken his hand so he is out and with this it seems that Andrew Smith is now the #2 TE.
QB
Sinclair put in some work this off-season as he looks like a better passer out there. Sure during the scrimmage he threw an INT but Landers made a hell of a play. And Sinclair struggled a bit after that INT but he looked comfortable out there. It would be 1st down and instead of forcing the ball into coverage, Sinclair would simply throw the ball away. It will be fun to see how Sinclair develops this season.
And what is there not to like about McNeil. Big kid, strong arm and he can move in the pocket or escape the pocket and pick up the 1st down with his feet. I hope McNeil stays at RMU…he is only 1 play away and the Colonials will need him this year I’m sure.

Uniontown and Leigh Valley chapters, along with anything else within 2 hours of P'burgh, should all be merged into one P'burgh chapter.

I agree with you wholeheartedly only the polls, Chris. I also enjoyed the link on the RMU QB ...

Highlands graduate Jeff Sinclair looked like he might ease into his college football career by taking a redshirt year at Robert Morris University last season.

But, as many opponents have discovered, never take your eyes off the elusive Sinclair.

The dual-threat quarterback won the starting job for the last seven games and took off running -- and passing. He directed Robert Morris to five consecutive victories to cap the rebuilding campaign with a 5-6 record.

Sinclair returns for his sophomore season with high hopes.

And he's not the only one.

One of the all time favorite coaches who retired was 'Bad Rad'
The players enjoyed him playing for him.

He still comes to some games here and there but he enjoys being retired.

The Colonials also have another famous coach on their sideline in John Banaszak

O-RMC did a great job with the history of RMU Football. The school is really growing and, last I was there, there was construction all over the place.

ORMC an correct me, but over the last few years it really has been a struggle at RMU. The O has just not been able to click for more than a couple games each season. Games typically seem to play out with the D keeping the Colonials in the game and then just running out of gas when the O can't put up any points.

This is probably RMU's biggest game ever, and I having it at home will be great. Hopefully our AD and President will see how important it is to get the conference up to full scholarships. I have heard varying reports about Robert Morris's commitment and conference votes about upping scholarship levels.

If RMU can somehow get some early points on the board, then we might have a game. If the Colonials find themselves in a early hole, I am not certain they will be able to dig out against a quality opponent like Liberty.

Best of luck to Liberty, and hopefully we have a good game without anyone getting hurt.

RMU has had several roller-coaster seasons recently. They had some very talented players but for some reason things did not click. The D has always been near the top of the FCS and that is what the football program was built on...a great D. It was that way since '94.
The last 5 games for the 2009 season, we started to see the offense come together and perform up to expectations. Hopefully the Colonials correct the issues that has hurt them the 1st 2 games because I think everyone can agree that Liberty is not a team you start slow against.
I hope that Liberty brings a large crowd with them. Then hopefully the Athletic Department will see the need to already expand the stadium and perhaps put lights in.

Robert Morris has been picked by some to win the NEC this season. Could we be seeing this team again in the first round of the playoffs if that happens, or will the NCAA not schedule a rematch between the Big South champ and the NEC champ?

Looking at the Colonials' DBs they do have some height (6 guys at 6'0" and 2 at 6'1") that could match up with our big guys, so I think we may see a lot more from the TE (Shaver at 6'6" Wrede and Wilkes at 6'5" and Apon at 6'4"), especially if they can match them up with one of the smaller DBs.
