Forgive us but it just doesn't feel comfortable for us to be the biggest game ever for a fellow FCS program. Like the NEC, the Big South gives us such a low profile that it is tough to think of ourselves in that sense especially since we've never been to the playoffs ourselves.

RMU has never really had a very strong OOC schedule. Over the past 5 years, the program has stepped up to the plate with their schedule. RMU went from playing DII & DIII schools early in their history to top level FCS programs like Liberty. This is a very exciting time for RMU football with a lot of talent back and hopefully they can capture a NEC title and get that automatic bid.

What can you tell us about the Colonials program under Coach Walton?

Where to begin...Robert Morris started as a non-scholarship program and I was a member of that first class. We had only 2 full time coaches, 2 small closets turned into offices. We practiced on something they turned into a football field even though is was not 100 yards. We shared a weight room with the students so it was rough but we won.
Coach Walton has been the figure head of the program since 93 (when they started recruiting). He also calls all the offensive plays himself.

How involved is he on an everyday basis these days?

Coach Walton runs the program and the offense. He oversees that lay out for each practice, has daily film meetings with coaches & players. He puts in the hours just like everyone else. Now he has removed himself from recruiting a bit but does make calls when its required and will be available for recruits when they arrive on campus.

What can we expect from a gameday experience this Saturday?

A sell out crowd...probabyl over 3,000...yes I know...laugh at us if you must but its better than what I played in. I didn't get a chance to play on campus. I had to get dress, jump on a yellow school bus and drive down the road to a local high school to play our home games.

Looks like no tv for this game either. NEC doesn't have a stream and there is no local televised broadcast. I guess I'll have to listen and watch the MD-WVU game. Darn!

It wasn't that terribly long ago where 3k was a reasonable expectation to show up at Williams Stadium. Our younger FlameFans have no idea how recently it really was. Thankfully our culture has exploded at games the past 5 years.

Thanks for the insight on Coach Walton. He was an extremely colorful guy during his Jets days. As people get older they can become more mellow or contankerous ... wasn't sure which direction Coach Walton had headed.

And for the record, it may be small but that is a sweet little crib we'll be playing in Saturday. The field looks great.

As for television, pray for somebody who is going to step up with a Ustream broadcast for us. Perhaps even somebody with internet access in the stadium, ahem, might turn a webcam toward the field for us. Just sayin'.



And for those wondering, this is a game that you could drive up to and come back int he same day. It'd be exhausting but a few folks could pile in a car and pool gas money and make it happen. It's about a 6-hour or so drive each way. I've driven it and you can make good time across the mountains in West Virginia. TDDance can attest to the drive. Speaking of which, will he be in the house Saturday?

And yes, there are two Robert Morris Universities and even though they are not connected at all, they are often confused.

The WV Turnpike is now 12 bucks roundtrip to drive through. Absolutely not worth it. However, I'd like to get up to Pittsburgh and at some point and I think this is my best bet.

Ha, we've been there.....not to mention a flood took out the ability for the school bus to get to the field....then the season was later cancelled. It's all apart of the growing pains my friend!

Really we have something to talk about at every position and phase. We're really deep and prepared better than most at our level. I know that's broad and doesnt help much but it's the case right now.

It seems that your teams has a powerful offense lead by a great QB.

We led the nation in scoring last year and we have nearly everyone back from that team. I expect to lead the nation in scoring again this year. Yes, Mike Brown our QB – you will get to know him well by 3pm Saturday. We have a 6-4 WR Chris Summers who is leading the nation in Receiving. We have speed everywhere. Our NG is almost 400lbs and very talented. We have a bend but don’t break defense. You’ll likely have a couple of decent drives, but our D will tighten up before you score. Lots of speed on defense. Good depth.

Our weakness thus far has been our offensive running game. I think we’ll be looking to get that going on Saturday. We certainly have the talent to be able to run the game we just need to actually do it. But we could pass for 400+ yards if we wanted to.
