“It’s a great program,” Jones said. “They’re going to win a national championship in my time there, I know that.”

It's interesting that Chris would write about this. I'm guessing it's because Grant is a big name/recruit more than the fact that Liberty got a verbal but no matter what, I love that it's out there and public and in print.

It normally would be Ted Allen's domain, but since Grant chose to verbal to Liberty, and the fact that the news was already out there, it kind of crossed my way and I felt it was kind of urgent to get something in print. He initially told me he was going to make a decision on his birthday, which was last week, but then he decided to hold off for a bit.

We've had a handful of high-major recruits over the last few years in the area -- Logan Thomas, Peter Rose, Zack McCray. Grant fits that bill. It's not often you have one of the top 20 players in the nation at a position playing in your backyard. He certainly would get more press than a run-of-the-mill recruit because of that. Had he verballed to Tech, Nathan Warters probably would have handled it. Since he chose LU, it was natural for me to write the story.

I didn't mean it was interesting because you wrote it instead of Nathan or someone else. It was more of an, "Oh, wow, they wrote an article about a kid who verballed. That's not normal." Like you said though, Grant's a big deal.

“I thought I could help out the recruiting class and help out the coaches knowing that I’m on board,” Jones said.

I love everything I have read about this kid and it seems that he will fit in well at LU. I am impressed with the above quote because he is already thinking of ways to help his team. Cant wait to see this kid in a Liberty Flames uniform. Welcome to the LU family Grant :D

Plus, according to Lang's article, Jones wants to be a MISSIONARY:
Jones said he chose Liberty for several reasons. He said the Flames’ weight program — headed by Bill Gillespie, a world-record holder in the bench press — was a major selling point. And Liberty had the academic discipline he was looking for, as he plans on going overseas to be a missionary once he’s done with school.

Come in early Scar and dinner is on me! After the LCA win we'll go out with Grant and family to celebrate! I am very proud of my nephew! Looking forward to seeing the "Jones" name on the back of that Flames jersey!

He's still at LCA. There was some talk about him graduating early and being here for spring ball but it didn't happen for one reason or another. Either way, I'm pretty sure he'll be at most of the practices watching and learning. If I'm not mistaken, he can even be in on the meetings but just can't lift or practice with the team.

After Pat Kelly, LCA stopped allowing its kids to graduate early and enroll in college to play spring ball. From talking to Grant in February, that was the path he wanted to take, but it wasn't an option.

That's what I thought. I remember talking to his dad during his junior year and they were saying they wanted to go that route but weren't sure if LCA would let them. Gotta credit Grant for taking it in stride and instead of sulking, winning the state championship in wrestling.

Agreed. Great attitude! But, I think he lost in the state title match...
