Everybody has an opinion about the favorite slice of pizza. So who has the best in the Lynchburg area?

Chains or mom & pop joints are both welcome selections.

Vitos for local flavor or a big fatty from the Papa Johns chain. I ate a ton of pizza in college, but good cuisine is subjective when you are poor.

Lori's in Forest. I just went there for the first time about a month ago and it is very good and $1.25 per slice NY style.

Jon, I am not sure but I know it is one of the more affordable places in Lynchburg. When Mrs SCAR and I eat there we usually get so much food we can have 2 meals with the left overs and seriously we rarely spend more than 12 bucks total! So I would think the Pizza was pretty affordable but I just don't remember.

Lori's is pretty cheap and you get big slices. I don't know why but I'm a Pizza Hut guy myself, it's just hard to beat that pan crust.

I like Little Ceasar's. Drive up, hand em like 5.35 or something, and get a large pepperoni in return.

Don't forget the Crazy Bread ... I lived on that stuff at the Fort Avenue location when I was in school. I stop and pick up Little Caesars all the time on my way home from work.

I admit my standards are fairly low for pizza. I love it so much that I have a hard time thinking of any pizza is bad. I'm good with Fazolis, Cicis and just about any chain (including Pizza Inn).

Chicago-style is my personal fave but I don't believe there are any Chicago-style joints in Lynchburg.

Vito's and OIP are great for local mom and pop pizza. Little Caesars was a great chain value though. 5 bucks for a pepperoni pizza.. MMMMM..

There are a couple places over in Wyndhurst that aren't too bad, either--Mama Mia's and The Upper Crust.

I will co-sign that Upper Crust is really good. Especially if you like fluffy bread.

The Brick Oven, just passed the 7-11 on 460 is pretty good, too.

Since we have so many new posters and their opinions are welcome, I'm bumping this off the back page.

I'll give you that none are probably of Gino's East quality. Frankly I can't find any good Chicago-style anywhere in Houston and we're a city of 5 million people. We had some places in Austin, but quality Chi-town pies are unfortaunely a rarity across America.

and gino's isn't even the best za in chitown....yeah around here (2.5 hours west of chicago) we have about a zillion ma and pa places and most of them stem from 2 or 3 major ma and pa shops that have been here for a long time (ex employees, etc)...all are pretty decent with a few being phenominal...i don't miss the pizza situation in lynchburg

As a resident in the Chicagoland area, I agree that there are a lot of ma/pa's that make great pizza. Honestly. I don't know how people can go back to Pizza Hut, Domino's, etc. after eating Chicago-style Pizza.

Top 5:

1. Lou Malnati's(You can actually order Lou's pizza online and they'll ship it to anywhere in the country...)
2. Giordano's
3. Gino's East Downtown(Wells & Ontario)
4. Rosati's
5. Nancy's

Fav ma/pa pizza: Nick's Pizza in Crystal Lake. Awesome thin-crust pizza. Fresh veggies....

I actually had a great pie when I was in Schaumburg a couple of months back. I walked to this place around the corner from my hotel and I believe it was called Moretti's or something like that. Perhaps it was Malnati's but I can't recall.

Consider this thread forever hijacked. :)

Live 10 minutes away from that Moretti's. Schaumburg's where I live. I've eatin' so much of that pizza that I forgot all about it.

I work for the same company that owns Moretti's and about 20-plus other properties in Chicago. Lotta good restaurants.

I thought everybody had to show their Motorola badges to live in Schaumburg. :D

Seriously, I was thoroughly impressed with Moretti's despite its lack of reputation when I stumbled into the place. But to be honest, any Chicago-style pizza is 100x better than the best NY-style pie IMHO.

In my opinion, Mamma Mia (in Wyndhurst) has the best pizza in town, followed closely by Vito's. They're the closest to New York quality you'll get in the 'burg. Lil Cucci's in Forest is pretty good, although their by-the-slice is a little pricey compared to others in the area. Of course, Little Caesar's is always the cheap and sleazy option, and I get most of my carryout from there.
