I was able to get home pretty easily. Once I got to Altavista the roads got a lot better. My biggest problem was that the tracks that people with 4wd made on my road yesterday had refrozen and was complete ice.

PAmedic wrote:got about 12-14" here- it stopped snowing about 0200 Sun AM, by 0800 all roads were down to blacktop and mainly wet; we had no problems getting to church and had 20 or so family over for a party at noon.

local plows and the state were out throughout the storm and kept up with it tho. And they put down a lot of brine early. Not sure if your guys do that.

roads look pretty much dry this AM.

I grew up in SW NY state - the snow belt. I remember plenty of times we would get 2+ feet of snow and with drifting you would see bare spots of grass next to 5 ft drifts. Not that uncommon.

Was this one of you guys?
One driver, who apparently abandoned a car during the heavy snow late Friday on U.S. 501 North, took the precaution of raising the windshield wipers. Stuck wipers will be the least of the problems when the driver returns, because the entire car is now nearly submerged beneath plowed snow and ice.

No. You'll become one when the VA roads are clear within 10 hours of snowfall. You will also notice a major hike in your taxes in order to pay for it, making you as negative and naturally grumpy as a Yankee.

Flurries tonight, possibly much more this weekend. Sorry, no maps, ese.

Actually saw some good-sized flurries during my lunch-break today, but it didn't last long.

Coaches are already emailing about whether we should cancel our BSC Quiz Bowl tournament this weekend in Lynchburg because of the snow. For crying out loud, we play indoors! :(

Yes, but you have to get there. I remember when we playe West Virginia we had to leave a night early to avoid a snowstorm...when that coach was called, as soon as the forecast was mentioned his voice went down, then when we said we were coming up early they arranged for us to have practice time at the indoor facility they used.

I'm not buying it.

The whole being snowed in and not being able to leave was the part that sucked. The company wasn't bad.

The guy on WSET's Good Morning Virginia just mentioned 4 inches of snow expected for Friday; no mention of how much snow for Saturday.

Is this storm coming from the south or west?

Per channel 10 last night....riding the jet stream and going to dip south then rising north....so we get no mountains blocking any of it...who knows.

I read it was coming from the west (going through California right now) and combining with a bunch of cold air from the north.
