CBS is reporting it as an "indefinite leave of absence" but not retirement on their NFL broadcast. My guess is this was suggested by the AD as a way to leave the door open for meyer's return.

Hearing from people like herbstreet who talked to him -- i really doubt he 'changed his mind' but it does make perfect sense for the school. This way they avoid hiring someone else and then being put in the awkward position if Urban un-retiring either next year or in future years.

At the same time, it keeps them from hiring a quality candidate should Urban not be able to return. No one would want to go into a lame duck situation like that. This will also really hamper their recruiting efforts.

I am just sitting back and watching the circus in town. Urban I resign, no I am not resigning Meyers, lol

This saga, which appears far from over, highlights the health and balance concerns all college/pro coaches face.

Finding a balance in life, no matter your profession, is so vital. Grooming the ability of oneself to recognize small moments when a step away is not only beneficial, but necessary for sustained success - the importance of this cannot be undertated. As also cannot be the pressures and expectations placed upon such individuals by superiors, fans, and media alike. It really calls into question the mindset of each party, and if what's best for those involved is mentally maintained.

I recall a moment when I was young, and I asked my mother, "Is ketchup bad for you?" She replied, "Too much of anything is a bad thing." All of life is dependent upon a balance - of time, of profession, of diet, etc.

What Meyer's resignation, and subsequent flip-flop to "Leave of Absence" show us is an individual's lack of balance to the point of poor health, coupled with the inability to let go of the imbalance despite the poor health, and even the exultation of his 18-year-old daughter ("Yay, now I get my daddy back.") I could never reneg on a decision in the face of such facts. I suppose that means, among other thing, that I'll never be a NCAA Division I football national champion coach.

In the much documented SEC and largely college-wide mentality of win-at-all-costs, as well as in the professional world at-large, there are certain costs which should never have to be paid - namely faith, family, and mental and physical health. I, for one, am ecstatic to be working for a boss who is well aware of just that. Urban's inner turmoil dually sickens and saddens me.

So Gator fans being lame gives an excuse to make fun of a guy's health problems? Is that how we justify things now. Haha.

It's one thing to make fun of Bowden because he's ancient and lost control of the program a long time ago. It's another thing to make fun of Urban for his health problems since he's whipped your butt since he's been in town and you have nothing else on him. How have the UF/FSU games gone lately?

Nothing else on him? How about all the thugs they have in that program getting arrested all the time?

No matter the school or the amount of thugs, to make fun of anyone who is having heart or brain issues is beyond classless.

I'm pretty sure VA Tech has the corner on that market.

Yep that I am, I hate UF and anything associated with them, that is a fact of life. Good old hate rivalry.

As far as his health, read the first post I made here when Urban came out with the reason of him stepping down. Take that statement along with the second one I posted to see if you can connect the dots. I mean they do still teach reading at LU, don't they.

And yes it is and was a circus, media circus. I think yesterday decisions was to save UF recruiting class for this year. Interesting that Urban stated he talked to his Doctor to make his decision and then around his players yesterday he was ok. I guess the players comments outweight any doctors opinion. Yesterday ESPN reported after the SEC championship Meyer was taken out of his house on a gurney to the hospital for chest pains.

Me personally I see him suffering if he comes back to coach. Would not be surprised if he suffers a heart attack or stroke on the side line or away. If he doesn not suffer a heart attack or stroke then a nervous breakdown. His actions lately is that of an unstable man.

classless....I kid I kid!!

UF likes this kind of thing it seems..it wasn't so long ago good ol' billy donovan went to the nba for a day only to come crawling back...

Of course the 2 scenarios are different...but it is kind of comical how both coaches played the media....

FSU FANS CALLING FLORIDA PLAYERS THUGS????????? ARE YOU SERIOUS (with the Dick Vitale voice) Up until about a year and a half ago, please compare the arrest from both schools in terms with football players in the past 15 years. I almost passed out on that statement It's
sad though, these young men need to be reached out too.
