Virginia will open play against Samford tonight at 7 p.m. in a game that will be preceded by a 4:30 p.m. contest between Cornell and Liberty. The winners will play in the title game Tuesday night at 7 p.m. after the third-place game.

I'll be at the game today with Flame Convert. Oh, and there was zero coverage about the LU game/UVa tournament in today's N&A. The last time I saw an LU ladies game at JPJ arena, Megan dropped 37 on the Cavs and won easily over the home team.

Debbie Ryan took a poll before her team played for the first time in over a week. The Virginia women’s basketball coach wanted to know which players felt they deserved to start in the team’s opening game of the Cavalier Classic. Not one hand was lifted into the air.
At times Monday night, it was evident why. Yet Virginia managed to overcome the rust of a layoff and a barrage of 3-pointers from Samford, salvaging a 69-60 victory at John Paul Jones Arena in front of 3,134. With the win, the 23rd-ranked Cavaliers (8-3) advanced to face Liberty tonight at 7 p.m. in the title game of the four-team event. Unlike Virginia, the Flames had an easy go of it on Monday, dispatching Cornell 70-40 in the day’s opener.
