don't plan on going anywhere for the next month
With my house being on top of a hill and a steep driveway down to the street, I most definitely won't be going anywhere once I get home tonight. I'm in the 14-24" range on that WSET map...doubt that much will happen, but then again its possible.

Atrain,

Consider parking at the bottom of the hill. We live in the boondocks w/ a long driveway and that's what we used to do. We don't even have a steep hill, our driveway is just way to long to shovel.
YoU probably won't get 24 inches but 12-15 seems likely.

I could, problem is there are other houses behind mine that use the driveway and there's no POA to ensure plowing.

When will these schools realize that closing early is a guarantee that it won't snow. I don't think the snow has even hit the state yet. I've been checking the traffic cams, and it's starting to get wet in the most western parts of the state, but I don't see any snow.

The agency where I work closed at 1:00, but we're still here because we have clients waiting for rides. It's costing us a small fortune in billing, and will probably end up being totally unnecessary.

Just heard from a coworker who left early, the snow has hit Ferrum, and the SSA field offices in NC and extreme southern Virginia are closing.

From our friends at WSET:
As the low approaches, the first of the precipitation will fall into air that may be above the freezing mark. But because the air is dry, precipitation will initially dry up before it makes it to the ground. However, as falling precipitation dries up, it will cool the air, taking temperatures back down to near or below the freezing mark. So precipitation may start as a sleet and snow mix, but will change to all snow later in the afternoon.

I thought Lynchburg drivers didn't know how to get around in the snow...Roanokers are even more clueless, and as a result of that plus road crews not spreading salt/sand I ended up parking a mile and a half away from my house, and even while I was walking I kept stopping to help push people out or up a hill.

Just finished about 7 hours of WV-VA snow driving tonight (Routes 20 & 60 in WV, I-64, 220 South & 460 West). Some places I couldn't go more than about 20-30 miles an hour, and had to stop every half hour and break the ice off my wipers. Not fun! I probably counted 50 cars either in the ditch or the median.

8 3/4 inches as of 8:30 a.m. at my house here in rainbow forest. 12 inches has piled up on top of my car( a Honda civic). Civics are great but I probably won't be able to make the game tonight.

There is no basketball game today.

I hope to God the roads get cleared before tomorrow. I was supposed to go home.

Who is going to clear them? Did Virginia ever invest in snow removal equipment? I know back in the day we waited until it melted.
