Herd Fans thread on Rocco

And of some note from this evening ...
HerdFanscom wrote:Rocco has not interviewed, yet.
Time for Chris to check those FAA Flight Plans again.
Regardless of how all this turns out, it's nice reading that thread. If they get to know him, they will love him as much as we do. Of course, I don't want them too though. 8)

I will be surprised if both Marshall & Buffalo don't contact Coach Rocco's agent. Looking at the names being floated out there, Coach Rocco's resume and record and better.

And having covered a bunch of these scenarios in my past life, just keep in mind that just because someone interviews it doesn't mean he is seriously interested in the position. It is always good to determine what your fair market value might be.

And then there is this ...

Interim Head Coach Rick Minter has become a very good prospect as the future Head coach of the Thundering Herd.

And check out the following post from a respected poster on Herd Fans (he has to be respected because look at his handle):
TexasHerdFan wrote:**Butch Jones IS NOT coming to Marshall. It was never his intention to do so. This has been his attempt to get CMU to ante up and offer him an extension and more money. That was his plan all along. He will never step foot on the Marshall University campus. As much as most of you would disagree, Marshall is indeed a lateral move for him.
Later in same post ...
But I will stand by my own prediction that Bobby Pruett will be announced as our new head football coach by this coming weekend.

I don't know the circumstances surrounding Pruett leaving Marshall, but I was always puzzled about it considering the success he had. I understand there are some wealthy doners who really want him back and are ready to put their money where their mouth is.

Recognizing that Buffalo isn't as attractive as Marshall for many reasons, expect him to be on their list of candidates to replace Gill.

Right now there is no mention of Coach Rocco on the Buffalo board.

I pulled this off the marshall.rivals.com website

Rumors have circulated that Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick has told Central Michigan head coach Butch Jones that he has until the end of the day to make a decision on the Thundering Herd's head football coach opening. On the day that Jones is scheduled to interview with Cincinnati, is Hamrick really asking Marshall's top target to fill the vacancy left by Mark Snyder's "resignation" to make a move or else?

Well that does not look too promising. At least there are a couple of other candidates that MU can choose from.

I knew LU fans were on the Marshall message boards trying to create drama but I figured this thing had some legs.....now wouldnt that be ironic if interest came from people in the AD seeing his name keep popping up on the Marshall message boards from LU fans just trying to have some fun? That's why I dont play with fire, dont want that on my conscience!

Everybody, take a deep breath. Preliminary contact with Rocco's agent. This does not make him a frontrunner for that job. Let the process happen before starting to panic. The man has had a lot of success, and he's going to draw interest for bigger jobs. He'll probably interview. Doesn't mean he's going to jump at the first opportunity to leave.

Just from reading everything that's coming out of Huntington/Charleston, it seems like Marshall may wait until after the bowl game now to make a decision anyway, just to give Rick Minter a sort of working audition for the gig.

And I'm upset in a way I never dreamed. Marshall is hiring a head coach from the ENEMY??? That had to be the president's call and not the AD. I would think an AD would know better than that.

Thanks, now I feel much better. Crybaby

I can't wait to read what the Marshall boards have to say about that hire.

Sources: WVU's Doc Holliday heading to Marshall
By Mitch Vingle

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia associate head coach Doc Holliday has left Florida, where he was on the road recruiting for the Mountaineers, and is en route to Huntington.

It also looks like he's en route to the head coaching football job at Marshall.

Sources, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Gazette that no deal has been finalized, but that Holliday is the apparent choice to succeed Mark Snyder, who recently chose to resign rather than be fired as the MU coach.
