THIS will make things a lot more interesting. Will he be eligible for spring drills? If yes that certainly will add a nice dynamic especially if he is built a lot like Rashad

Wow... just think about this, guys...

Payne and Davis as the "Jennings and Terrell" style combo.

Aldreakis as a third down back thanks to his catching/route running skills.

Oh yeah, and SirChauncey as a change of pace back. And Chase Barnett and BJ Hayes as Aaron Hewlitt/Mike Brown style slot back/WR types.

Davis and Barnette have already used their redshirt years. Payne is 1 and done. If either Aldreakis or SirChauncy find themselves feeling underutilized, it's possible one might transfer, but IMHO you can't have too many RBs. No position takes more physical punishment.

payne had flashes of greatness in his wahoo days, but also showed a work-ethic less than superior. i think the year off has made him hungry and i trust coach rocco when it comes to transfers. we could use a big power back. welcome to keith payne!

I hope that everyone sees the direction this program is going and want to be a part of it. I hope no one transfers out of the fold. I love the players we have and are trying to add. Programs that win on a regular basis and win championships are programs that have depth and especially at the skilled positions. Welcome Keith Paynd and hopefully J'Courtney will be following shortly

Why not a red shirt? Makes sense to RS Allen. If they're similar backs and if Payne is only going to be here a year.

Keith Payne is NOT a RB and made his name after 1 good playoff game. Once he realizes that he's a Linebacker then maybe he'd help this team out but a RB he is not.

I think Dave Wannstache had a similar conversation with Rashad about being a Fullback.

im gonna have to disagree with you coach robbie. Payne was a SuperPrep All-American out of Oakton High and led his team to the state championship as a senior and was the Group AAA player of the year after rushing for 2,059 yards and 26 touchdowns. this kid played at the top level of Virginia high school football and played in the Concorde District which is full of big name FBS talent. i think this kid can play RB. Sure he had the great playoff game with 260 some yards and 5 TD's against a percy harvin led landstown team, but he was solid before that as an RB and he also played linebacker too, but all schools were recruiting him as a ATH including Frank Beamer who i think can evaluate talent very well, but VT and other schools evaluated him best at RB. a interesting fact about payne is he was a lacrosse star at oakton as well. the kid is an all-around athlete. if he has overcome his academic problems, he could be a huge pickup for LU.

It's okay to agree to disagree and this is what we'll do. I've seen Payne more than a few times and for those who think he's built like Rashard..."wait until you see him". I've also seen him while at UVA and he's not a RB nor a FB. He didn't tear it up while in Virginia AAA and the playoff game against Landsdown was his best game. Of course he was recruited as a ATH since this means you can be considered for more than 1 position which is no suprise and I do think he's a good ATH. However, he won't make a splash at RB or FB and would be best at a LB. Living here in NOVA...I'm well aware of who has played what and also who excels at what position.

Besides, I posted earlier that a suprise walk on might just shake up the RB/FB spot so stay tuned...I think the LU Fans will be suprised at this stud who goes out in January/2010. :D

coach i never said he was built like rashad. i just think he is a good RB and can excel at that position, and i trust college coaches opinions who said he is a good RB. with all of that said, as long as he produces while in a LU uniform, i could care less what position he plays.

I didn't mean you but somewhere in the topic there was mention of his size and someone mentioned "built like Rashad" which is not close imo. As I stated earlier..."we'll agree to disagree" since I don't have him as a RB/FB but rather a DE or LB. Also, I'm with you that while in a LU uniform as long as he produces I could also care less.

Payne may back out from his verbal commitment to Liberty and stay with UVA.According to a friend in Charlottesville new UVA coach Mike London had a meeting with the RB asking him to come back for his senior season.UVA is thin at RB and London was on staff when Payne signed with UVA.It would make sense for Payne to stay with the Hoos.Liberty has more talent at RB than UVA and there are probably more carries available in Charlottesville.Keith is suppose to finalize his decision soon

My friend called said that he just talked to Keith Payne.Keith has decided to to play for UVA.I don't think Liberty has been notified of his decision at this time.

Well that's not what I was hoping to hear. I dont understand why there are people on here arguing that he is a DE or LB, I mean seriously he was a RB or FB his entire time at UVA and with one year left you think he's going to change positions, especially not if he came here. And as for built like Rashad, go back and look at Rashad as a sophomore compared to Payne's body type, it is indeed close though I am not the one that originally said that. Rashad changed his body and combined speed and power later in his career. KP is a plowhorse runner for us or UVA this year, end of story.

LOL at those wishing Payne turns into a Jennings type. I've posted his recruiting link above and go look at the offers he had coming out of HS. Now while "grades" concerned some programs some didn't offer and I wonder why?

Once again...he made his name with that 1 good game against Landsdown and while he did help shut Percy (Harvin) down Damon Mcdainel was hurt with Turf Toe and while he did play he was nothing more than a decoy because he couldn't run. Anyhow, back to Payne, I think he's a good football player but there is a reason why in 3 years at UVA he hasn't seen the field yet and surely it wasn't Al Groh. If he comes to Liberty NO WAY I'd want him over Aldreakus or Sir Chauncey or that other suprise hybrid RB/FB that will go out in January.

Finally, look at Payne's recruiting profile, if he was this stud RB like some are led to believe would he not have more than 2 offers? Also, Virginia Tech did NOT offer him as a RB but a LB and that is the position where he'd help out NOT RB. I've been around the game to long and have coached offensive skill positions for to long to know that he's just not this great RB. Best of luck to him!
