Drew Bailey
6' 4" 230 lb Defensive End
Dorman (SC) High School

Dorman defensive end Drew Bailey has committed to Liberty University, Cavaliers offensive coordinator Michael Lancaster said Tuesday.

Bailey is third on the team with 25 tackles. He also has four tackles for loss, three sacks and three pass break-ups. Bailey is the second player from Dorman to commit to the Flames. Former standout offensive lineman Malcolm Boyd committed to the Lynchburg, Va., school last season.

Nice find, TD.

Welcome to the LU family, Drew!

Dorman’s Drew Bailey, left, stands 6-foot-4, but it’s hard to tell so in this photo with former Cavaliers defensive lineman Vance Hammond. Hammond, who is on a hill in this shot, is 6-foot-7.

Dorman defensive end Drew Bailey admittedly can’t give a history lesson about the players who came before him.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t on his mind each time he takes the field, though.

“I look up to them and have seen how much success they had here at Dorman,” Bailey said. “You want to remember and honor them by not jogging and going full speed no matter what.”

He doesn't sound like as solid of a commit as might have been assumed ...
Bailey does many things to help Dorman be successful

The only thing Dorman’s Drew Bailey hasn’t been able to do this season is persuade his coaches to call more pass plays in his direction.

The multitalented 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior has primarily earned his considerable keep as a defensive end.

But he’s also played some tight end, seen snaps on special teams and served as the Cavs’ backup long-snapper.
And here is what is slightly disconcerting ...
But it clearly isn’t the big man’s receiving ability that earned him a spot in this year’s Shrine Bowl and has sparked interest from multiple colleges. He’s committed to Liberty but has other offers and has had contact with several schools.

A strong playoff run and solid individual performance in the Shrine Bowl should raise Bailey’s stock.

We now have one less verbal in our fold. According to Rivals, he verbally committed to Appalachian State this past week.

I've got to pull for the Southern Conference. Go Appy!

(I know Super hates that word "Appy", but that's what we always called them at Marshall when they were in the same conference).

I don't mind Appy. The people at App do, but I don't really care.

And you guys really shouldn't be giving this kid crap over this. Yes, he went back on his word, but as we've said around here for years, verbals mean nothing. This kid chose to go to a school that has won three of the last four national championships and very well could win their fourth in five years this year. They lead the country in attendance. They have the best facilities in the country. They have one of the best fan bases in the country. The mere fact that we're recruiting the same kids as App State and that kids are legitimately putting us in the discussion with them coming out of high school shows how far we've come. Do you see other schools in the conference losing a recruit to the likes of App State? If we can get in the playoffs next year and maybe win a game, then that starts to close the gap. We're already in the conversation, but we've got a little bit further to go.

Super I dont mind this kid going to Appy. I dont have anything against the school until we play them. I just think that is where he wanted to go all along and didnt have the offer he wanted. When they came calling he backed out. He should have just held on to see if they were going to give him what he wanted or stuck with his decision to come here and win a national title with LU. Truly no hard feelings :)
