Just went today & the food was fantastic. Asked for the steak to be medium-rare..........& they cooked it perfectly. Had the pork appetizer. Atmosphere is nice.

If you're looking to pig out & expand your stomach on a budget, this is not the place for you.

I went last night. The food was good. Chicken Parm was definitely the best I've ever tasted. Seared tuna was cooked exactly how I wanted it when I asked for medium (tuna and burgers are so hard to get undercooked at a restaurant). Whatever they put on the outside was a little on the salty side. But I'd give it a thumbs up for food quality. It's kind of overpriced though. If that place isn't downtown I don't think they can get away with it. Not a place I'll be going often. I'd rather go get something at Dish just down the block.

The tuna sliders is what I got. Was it enough food? Last time when I went it literally was 10 fry's and 2 sliders...but maybe they realized that's not even a kids portion so they upped it.

newsadvance.com wrote:Don’t be disturbed if you order a drink — a mojito, perhaps — at Robin Alexander, and your bartender disappears for a moment or two.

He’s probably just run out to the side patio, where the staff is growing its own garden.

“They come out there to pick up stuff,” says co-owner Robin Dimond.

There’s parsley, basil and a fig tree, plus the mint they put in the mojitos. All are grown with organic fertilizer.

“We just felt like it creates a healthier (option),” says Dimond, who opened the downtown spot six weeks ago with partners Alex Richardson and Tony West, with the goal of creating a “polished casual” atmosphere.

“You can come how you are,” she says. “If you want to dress up, dress up.

“We just did whatever we felt was comfortable. Alex and I never call people our customers. They’re our guests.”

The downtown location was a perfect fit for what they’re trying to do, and she says they’re excited to be a part of its growth.

“Downtown is about to see a change that I don’t know everyone is ready for,” says Dimond, who moved here to attend Liberty University and fell in love with the area. “I’m excited. We’re going to push it as far as we can. We want people who never come downtown to see that (it) is really nice.”

Incidentally I was sad to read in same article that Chicago on the James is gone.

BUMP

We initially walked into Waterstone Pizza, but when they told us a 30-minute wait, Mrs. Cider walked out, and we looked for a Plan B for Saturday night dinner. After remembering that Smoothie said good things about R-A, we decided to give it a try.

We got a bowl of soup, an appetizer, & 2 entrees:

Blue Crab & Corn Bisque
Mediterranean Hummus
Bistro Steak (10 oz. marinated skirt steak)

I really enjoyed my one visit to Robin Alexander, the food was great.

One a side note to Cider's post, I heard that Waterstone is opening a second location in Forest on 221.

My wife loved her food, but I could only give mine a B- because my medium steak was prepared between medium well & well done--not even a trace of pink anywhere.

I want to go back and try their crab cakes and the po boy sandwich made with shrimp & crawfish.
