It by no means a great trip but I wouldnt consider a split on the road to bad. Sweep most road trips, split the ones you dont sweep and defend home and you'll be the #1 seed going into tourny ball...and right now thats what we're doing

#1 Seed? Not if we have anything to say about that... Will feel better after our upcoming road trip end of this week...

The coaches and girls were given a gift this weekend.

They were shown how teams with less talent and size plan to play them.

We can make adjustments and be in great shape for the 2nd half of the season and the Big South Championship tournament.

I believe!

There is a lot of volleyball yet to play.

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter who is the #1 seed...just as long as we're the ones holding up the trophy for the 3rd straight year.

Is it safe to say this is your first time in the Vball thread? I suppose you havent had much of a reason to even realize your sport exists up until now :D

I will say this, UNCA is by far the most loyal school ever! What has it been, like 14 years or something since you've won a BSC Title? I wish I had a job that secure

:dontgetit :dontgetit Ummm, yes Liberty has had a couple good years since Winthrop fell from their perch on top of the Big South standings (only because their coach Joel McCartney left for Georgia)...But last time I looked it was UNCA, not Liberty, that was giving Winthrop a run for their money during those years (2005, 2006, 2007 etc.) when Winthrop was the class of the league. Oh and UNCA's last conference championship was a regular season one in 2002, not 14 years ago.

Considering how underfunded the program was until about 4 or 5 years ago Julie Torbett has done an excellent job, and is generally considered the best coach in the league. I believe she's also the Senior coach in the league at this point. Yeah you have a few league titles, but UNCA is far from a bottom feeder. They have arguably been the most consistent team in the conference this decade, and right now they are poised to have one of the better records and runs in recent memory.

We actually have volleyball threads at our site but there would be no reason to post here normally, except for the fact we are playing you guys.... And btw, I do believe that is a 2 match lead we've opened up over the flames in the standings? Come on now... Come beat us in the tourny and then you can talk 8)

Her peers, players etc. Go talk to coaches around the league, she's respected for what she's done... Built, and how well coached her teams are.
Torbett has consistently won with lesser talent, and in the last 6 or 7 years since she's been given funding and the opportunity to recruit nationally, UNCA has risen into a top volleyball program in the big south.

Which you could argue isn't saying much...But look at Joel, he parlayed it into something bigger.

i just think saying is generally considered the best coach in the league is kind of an overstatement.. not trying to sound like a homer but Coach Pinder is nationally respected, not just by Big South but everyone he has coached against.....

idk though and im not trying to take away anything from Coach Torbett she has done a lot with a the little the school has given her and that is awesome....

No I understand what your saying completely. Look Pinder has done a lot in a very short period of time...since what, 2004? I guess my view on it (obviously coming from the UNCA side) is that when Pinder was sort of, working to get things turned around (2004-2006) It was Winthrop & Asheville as 1 & 2, and it was sorta always Joel & Julie as the top 2 coaches in the conference...

Age isn't everything...just because she's been around the longest doesn't mean she's the best... But I do think she's earned respect and praise from around the league. Again, Pinder has done a great job...And it'll be interesting to see if Liberty stays solid whether he will stay or jump to a bigger school like Joel did.

Just to chime back in on what was being said about coaching.....I can hardly consider a coach that is 0-14 in Big South Titles one of the best.....one of the best at keeping their job I'll buy but nothing more

If you were so good you would have pulled in a few of them....run for the money doesnt mean a thing to me....just like a second place finish for LU wont mean a thing.
