actually, LANG is saying NO one saw this coming- he was off everyone's radar- even LU hasn't confirmed it yet.

I'd say its a bit presumptious to assume he could play this week, but man- what an addition.

well, I wouldn't beleive that part. Because it says this Friday so he doesn't even know when our game is.

is this the guy that was part of our "hypothetical", and by hypothetical I apparently mean actual, scenario of if we should accept a guy who got busted for weed?

Wow! What a pickup. That will be huge! How does everyone feel on how early he should be able to play. Considering he might not even start practicing for a few days. By Glenville St., or the next game?

If he can be more effective than the current starter, start him.

I wonder what the board will think on this one? Are we compromising the integrity of the university's mission? Or are we reaching out to a soul in need of Christian influence? Pleanty of people will be seeing red over this one, I bet.

Someone will always find something to say we are doing wrong. But if this guy was just any other kid, trying to come to Liberty, who is to say that we wouldn't accept him even with his past problems.

I agree with you on that one. I think we should welcome all comers with open arms, until they prove they cannot fit in with the student body or abide within the spirit of The Liberty Way.

If he were a "normal" student, we wouldn't know that he got in trouble. I don't think Liberty would either. Schools don't do those kinds of background checks when admitting a student. They look at academic performance and other indicators. I have not filled out a college app in many years but do they ask about a criminal history? If they do I bet they just take your word for it. I have worked in HR for some companies and it can get expensive trying to do background checks on that many folks at once plus there may not be a lot of info about many because they don't have much of a paper trail at 17 or 18.

Does anyone out there have information on Vince. I know that he made 16 tackles last year but other than that I don't know. Nice to be able to get some more transferes from the 1A ranks which now is up to 5. After last year I thought that that was needed. Too bad we were not able to get Tyler Tipton but hopefully can get the Hicks guy from Virginia Tech if he is still available. Does anyone know that?

Vince actually never enrolled at Grambling, he is ineligable right now and I really don't see him being able to play this Thursday... This a big pickup hopefully his grades will be up to par...

A.G. wrote:That's good stuff. It sure seems that many of the top I-AA schools get transfers. Perhaps LU will become known as the home for wayward Wahoos/Hokies.

BTW--Sly has a pretty big one coming down his way, too, at Sam:

IF you look at most D1AA championship games there are a TON of 1a transfers. Your powers are growing stronger young one

Rocco says his chances of playing this year are "slim," but they're going through an appeals process trying to see if he can become eligible. He would lose this year entirely and only have his senior year left.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty University Head Football Coach Danny Rocco has announced that former Virginia defensive lineman Vince Redd has transferred to Liberty. Redd will not be eligible to compete this year and will complete his final year of collegiate eligibility during the 2007 season.

“I certainly have a history with Vince as I recruited him out of Elizabethton High School back at Virginia,” stated Rocco. “We recruited him to be one of those big linebacker types that are hard to find, but he fits quite well inside the 3-4 defense.”

“We moved Vince from linebacker to defensive line as our (Virginia) roster adjusted,” added Rocco. “Vince is certainly a gifted pass rusher that will give us some versatility on defense with his size and ability.”

Redd is a two-year letterwinner at Virginia who saw playing time in 10 of the Cavaliers’ 12 games last year, finishing the season with 16 tackles (10 solo and six solo) and three tackles for a loss of four yards. In 2004, Reed played in all 12 games and finished the season with six tackles, including one for a loss as a linebacker and a part of the punt and kickoff units.

Redd, a 6-6, 280 pound linebacker/defensive lineman from Elizabethton, Tenn., was a PrepStar All-American at Elizabethton High School who was ranked as the 12th-best defensive end nationally by Tom Lemming in 2002, while also being ranked as the 13th-best strong side defensive end by Rivals.com.

As a high school senior, Redd finished the season with 104 tackles and was a first-team all-state selection, while scoring seven touchdowns in various ways (caught three, returned two fumbles, a kickoff return and an interception return).

Redd, a versatile athlete, was a standout basketball player at Elizabethton, while also playing one year of basketball at Virginia. During his senior prep season, Redd averaged 15.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, while earning all-conference, all-East Tennessee and all-state honors as a senior

From my understanding, he was academically ineligible when he was dismissed at Virginia, so therefore he cannot just transfer to another school and play right away. That's the issue.

It is a shame we can't play him this year but rules are rules and should be adhered to. Anyway I am happy about him coming to LU.
