I'm betting we didn't put the effort into aquiring that Jumbotron without the plan in place to fully utilize it.

In fact, I'm willing to wager that there's a guy out there already working on something phat for gameday

I have no hiding to do. I am a Hokie fan as well as a Lu fan. I went to Lu and am now in the seminary, but I have season tix to VT and have since I could afford them.

And Yes I do know that UVA is not the worst team in the ACC. I got that, I think the point I was trying to make was that if LU is going to move forward in the football world (which it has been doing since Rocco came) we don't need to take our pointers from Charlottesville and any traditions they have.

I believe in starting things on your own. I think one of the best things the athletics dept did for football was handout the "boom sticks". Any game that I have been to where the "boom sticks" were handed out, the crowed was much more involved and there was the obvious note that the place was louder.

My thought about not wanting to be like UVA isn't because I am a Hokie fan, but it is because I have seen first hand the sliding of the UVA football program. Lu is on the move of becoming a 1-AA power I personally think, and i don't want to slow it by "copying" tactics used in Charlottesville.

I will start by saying that I am a big UVA supporter and have season tickets for football. I have had them since I left there to come to LU to finish my education.
Everyone that has knocked the gameday experience at UVA is doing so based on the product that they are putting ON the field. I have to agree, and most UVA fans will too, that the program is up and down. We can win a big game and then come up short at Dookie. As a fan I want to win but I dont want to have a "win at any cost attitude" like most schools. I can go on and on here about the differences of the student athletes but I do not want to get of topic:)
What they do to create a positive game day experience is not much different than most schools. They have the sea of orange, a GREAT band, nice facility, a GOOD intro, good chearleaders/danceteam, when they score they sing the good ol song, and they do come out with intro video of Cavman. Most of us like the cavman intro because it is funny and they have a former alumni involved. As a supporter I love the gameday experience and get goosbumps when they come out of the tunnel on opening day. I have a great respect for VT but come on what is really different with their game day...they do I kids dance and they shack keys when it is a key playe which is almost all the time(which they did not originate).
All in all every school does things the same except for maybe one or two things that are truly there own. I came to a few games a year and will soon become a season ticket holder. I love seeing the growth of LU football with all the fans in red, a band that is getting better and better, a facility that continues to get better and better, a GREAT new scoreboard, a good product on the field, and last but not least GREAT fans that are enthusiastic and respectfull.
Sorry about the long response but I get a little frustrated when a school gets bashed for no real reason.

From the SID's during today's live blog of practice:
We’ve got a few guests roaming the sidelines today, beginning with members of the production crew from Liberty’s Center for Advanced Media Productions. They are capturing footage to use as part of Liberty’s team intro video, which will run on the stadium’s new video board. Members of the Athletics Department got their first look at the 90-second intro two days ago and it is off to a great start.

I don't think that there should be any doubt that it'll be good. I've thought that the basketball graphics/animation/videos have been awesome ever since they got those screens. They can be a tad over-dramatic, but whatever gets the crowd pumped.

And a tad long, but that's changing, too. The greatest potential for negativity in an intro video is that it builds to a climax and stays there for too long. Its a drain on the atmospheric energy by the time the home team runs onto field/court, starting lineups are announced, or up to whatever the video is building.

A video that is a slow build to a sudden and short climax at the very end is best.

(I think some of our younger readers may twist my decriptions to mean something very different  )

i hope they do more than just an intro video, i hope they use it through out the game (for more than replays) to pump up the crowd. Like i remember when i lived in seattle, i used to go to alot of mariners games, and i remember the year they won 116 games, whenever they would lose the lead at home or they were needing a big push or whatever, they would play movie clips to pump up the crowd, and my favorite was always when they would play the clip from rudy when the coach does the speech that ends " No one, and I mean NO ONE comes into OUR house and pushes US around" and I think itd be sweet if we used clips of movies like that both during the pregame and the actual game.

Things are coming. Ideas are being thrown around. The board isn't even functional yet so the people running it haven't even had a chance to mess around with it to find out what works best and what doesn't. You can't expect something like this to be up to full capacity on day one. It takes time to grow into it, find out the little things, find out what works, etc.
