It means that he would not enroll until the spring semester and he would be a freshman the following year.

I got the chance to go over to Wake Forest yesterday and watch LCA play in the 7 on 7. LCA lost in the semi's. Mike looked really good and was constantly wowing people in attendance. I've talked with him quite a bit over the last few days and after today's Wake Forest camp he plans to shut it down for a few weeks. I have a good feeling that Wake is going to offer. UNC hasn't offered yet but it's definitely a place of strong interest. Also VT and UVA are in play as well. The Penn.St situation is definitely interesting but I don't know if he wants to wait 2 full years before he is given a chance to even get on the field (purely my speculation). I can't get into everything out of respect to him and the family but that's kinda where things are at as of now.

Thanks..... Good Info.

I just cant see a guy not taking the chance to play ACC or Big Ten... if he thinks he has a chance to play. Which we all know Mike is capable.

The only way he would come to Liberty is because of the family ties. I think everyone knows that playing in the ACC or Big Ten would be much better than playing in the Big South. However, there are two things he has to look at; playing time and Championships. He will start right away here at LU and he has a better chance at winning a national title. Now I know the FCS title is nothing like the FBS title, but it is still a national championship none the less. If he goes to an ACC school, or even Penn State, I think he knows he is probably not going to go the national championship. It's highly unlikely that Wake Forest, or UNC will be in the national championship any time soon and if he goes to VT or Penn State, he might have to wait a few years to start. At Liberty he would be a four year starter with his uncle doing the recruiting and calling the shots. He could get the right team built around him and he could be set up nicely for a run at the national championship.

Here's the beauty of the Mike situation: If he goes to one of these other schools, which I would bet money he does, if things don't work out there, he's got a guaranteed place to transfer back to. When we lose a kid that we're recruiting to a bigger school, that's not always as bad as most people think. If things don't work out at the big school, we're likely the first option on that kid's mind when he looks to transfer. That's a pretty good situation to be in.

Sooooooooo many assumptions in this post. Has the "Baby Jesus" mantle really and truly fallen on the scrawny shoulders of an LCA kid?

We know now that the Rocco name will be in the history books of LU because his family has done wonders for football on Liberty Mountain. My wish is that he would come to LU because I would like to see this kid play for four years. That being said, I hope he goes where he and his family thinks he should go. I am sure that they will pray on the decision and let God lead them to what is best for him. I wish him the best no matter where he goes.

They're not scrawny shoulders! It's pretty hard for a kid to know over the course of 5 years whether or not a team is going to win a national championship. I think most kids would take 3 years as a starter or chance to be the starter at Penn.St or VT over 4 years at LU... Mike wil be getting many more offers over the next month or so as long he doesn't make a choice..

haha no. I was just saying that the kid has a better shot to come in to LU and win a national championship than to go to Wake or UNC or even VT. Now if a big SEC school offers him he would be stupid not to take it...

Rocco discusses his future with Strong

Josh Helmholdt

Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian quarterback Mike Rocco was disappointed when Louisville fired Steve Kragthorpe last month, but this weekend he had his first opportunity to speak with newly-named Cardinals' head coach Charlie Strong and hear his plan for the future.

Kragthorpe was fired after the season but Charley Strong, the new coach, has honored the offer and Rocco has honored his commitment.

That shouldn’t be a surprise because Strong is expected to announce shortly the appointment of Alabama graduate assistant Mike Groh as his quarterbacks coach. Groh was the UVa offensive coordinator at Virginia from 2005-2008 and I’m told that the Cavaliers were once close to offering Rocco, the nephew of former UVa assistant and current Liberty head coach Danny Rocco.

When Groh was pushed out and former Bowling Green head coach Gregg Brandon was brought in to coach the quarterbacks, Brandon felt that Mike Rocco was not the best fit for the Cavaliers’ new spread. So, the Cavaliers went in another direction, taking a commitment from Waynesville, N.C., quarterback Tyler Brosius before he decommitted and chose North Carolina State.

The plot thickens after Mike's weekend visit to Charlottesville ...

Mike Rocco

Just spoke to Liberty Christian Academy football coach Frank Rocco, who was returning to Lynchburg after accompanying his son, Mike, on a recruiting visit to Virginia this weekend.

Frank said the family would like some time to digest the Cavaliers' offer but hoped to have a decision within 24 hours.

Mike will choose between the Cavaliers and Louisville, to whom he made a commitment in late August. He is being recruited for Louisville by new Cardinals' quarterbacks coach Mike Groh, who had been involved in his earlier recruiting by UVa.

Mike Rocco (6 foot 3, 208 pounds) passed for more than 2,000 yards in his sophomore and junior seasons at LCA before a knee injury interrupted his senior year. He also has an offer from Penn State as an invited walk-on.

WOW!
Lynchburg, VA - LCA quarterback Mike Rocco has changed his mind. His coach and dad Frank Rocco tells me, Mike has de-committed to Louisville and will now go to UVa. He took an official visit to Virginia this weekend and Frank tells ABC 13 Sports he and Mike have known new UVa coach Mike London for a while and it'll be a better fit for him in Charlottesville. Mike will make it official Wednesday February 3rd, on national signing day.

I got so excited when I read:

And then my hopes were crashed when I read:
...and will now go to UVa.

But at least he's not going to Tech or JMU or Maine.

I wish him well at UVA. He knows the door to L.U is always open.Living in Charlottesville and playing in front of the Potted Plants(the UVA Country Club fans)for a year may be enough to sway him to come on home.

Wach got the job late Saturday night.... Talked to Rocco yesterday and they feel very comfortable with UVA's new O.C. He was with the Seahawks and plan to run a pro-style offense. Louisville's new O.C Mark Sanford (Former O.C at Utah with Urban Meyer) was going to run Urban's offense and the pro style fits Michael better... The family is very excited and Michael will have chance to play QB.

UVA will also sign a QB out of NC that initially was going to Richmond but changed his mind when London left to go to Virginia. I believe he is a 6'5" 210 pro style QB. My money is on Rocco and this kid battling for the starting spot in pre-season. QB has been a sour spot at UVA and one in which I believe has lost more games than it has won.

that was jake mc gee from collegiate school in richmond. we was a UR signee and switched last week. they are projecting him as possibly a TE. McGee and Rocco played against each other in the state championship this year and Mc Gee got the better of the duel, but as GMTM said, Rocco will get the chance at QB.
