That's not an apology at all! That basically said I'm sorry the media misunderstood and manipulated us like tools. Ironically, this is exactly like an apology you'd hear from a politician. Yes the word "sorry" is in there but it's a lot of words that do not convey an apology.

"There was also concern over the media’s characterization that Liberty University officials believe you cannot be both a Christian and a Democrat. We are fully aware that this is not the position of the administration, and none of our members or I have ever quoted such information to the press. However, Mr. Hine’s initial email stated that “the Democratic Party Platform is contrary to the mission of LU and to Christian doctrine”. This sweeping statement followed by references to issues such as “socialism” and “hate crimes” is largely what we believe caused the media to make certain assumptions about the position of the administration. "

That, to me, is somewhat insulting. It's like a child who refuses to admit they've done anything wrong.

Should read, "We apologize for facilitating the media's misrepresentation..."

Additionally, something along these lines should also be included, "Furthermore, we apologize for not correcting the media when given every opportunity to do so. We admit we chose not to because the media's misrepresentations suited our position nicely at the time."

My alma mater's administration is far more merciful than I (probably a good thing).

I'm pretty sure that was written by a lawyer. There is no way she wrote that, after reading the other things she has been writing.

Also, LUConn, negotiations were not jumpstarted because they said they wouldn't endorse a candidate. right now its more a matter of the club figuring out what direction they want to go, and with who leading them, and then negotiations can begin. Maria just wants media and to make the school look bad, so I don't think they will ever be able to move in a positive direction until they can find a new sponsor.

It will be interesting to watch all of this unfold though..

Williams: Liberty case takes new twist

Politics is a dirty business -- more so, it seems, when it happens at a place like Christian evangelical Liberty University.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Childress had recently been convicted of several criminal offenses among other traffic-related violations. On May 20 in Lynchburg General District Court, she was found guilty of disorderly conduct, misdemeanor assault and trespassing.

So now she really will make a good politician with the lying, covering tracks, deceit, and being a jailbird..

Unless youve been through a divorce (and i know you haven't) and can witness how ugly it can get ( I have ) her story about the visitation situation is a domestic issue and not a character one. Im fine with calling her out to own up to things she said, but your choosing quotes and not telling the whole story......

Jerry Jr was on the Morningline this morning talking about this. Didn't catch the whole thing, but two points I thought were key:

1. Both Democrat and Republican clubs will now be deemed "unofficial".

2. That Diaz kid from the Democrat Club secretly had a "high-ranking Democratic official" listening in to their original call the club had with the school administration, even though he assured them that no one else was on the line.

Oh, and Jerry Jr considers mechildress to be a victim in all this, hah!

Diaz seems like a first class d-----bag. What type of kid issues a press release saying they're leaving school? He's just looking to be in the spotlight as much as possible.

Just answer a simple question.....if someone was holding your future children against there will, lets say, would you or would you not assualt someone to get them back. I know darn well your redneck would come out and you would.....We dont' know all the circumstances surrounding that or if assualt was even commented. The point was in a nasty divorce is He said/she said crap with no physical proof often happens.....

So you are going to take her words in this assualt charge. Based on what she has said about LU officals saying something they did not, her track record is very suspect and weak.
Also she had no witnesses to back up her claims of what happened. Could it be that the witnesses to the incident reported what happened truthfully. They would be under oath of reporting a crime as it happened.

As much as I dislike these emoticons.....

:offtopic

You see that? You see how angry that little guy looks?
This little rabbit trail has nothing to do with the club's status and really isn't productive at all.

i havent stated much if anything in this thread, but what i will say is that getting on here and slamming people for their personal lives is the most UNchristianlike thing to do, and being the daughter of somenoe in a leadership position, its harmful to not only the person but to the family. I know some smart butt will get on here and say it made the news so we are only stating facts, but the point is, the news isn't even all facts. so leave her alone. she made some bad judgement calls on the whole dem club thing, end of story.

"leave her alone".........come on!

She had every opportunity to let it die down and work it out. She and Diaz like the limelight and where this took them. I find it funny that she now knows what its like to be in the public eye like Jr and Doc are and were. Now her story makes the news as well, she is fair game just like the confidential things she let out of the bag. It's all part of becoming a public figure and she became a public figure in the area thanks to her role in this. I'm glad the truth is seeping out little by little. Atleast Jr. showed a little class by keeping much of this private. The thing is, BS tends to stink and reveal itself no matter how hard you try to cover it up!

Another headline from the local paper:
LU, Dem club reach compromise

By Christa Desrets
Published: June 23, 2009

After a month of back-and-forth negotiations, the controversy between Liberty University and the college Democrat club reached a resolution Monday.

A proposed change in university policy, announced by Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. over the weekend, in effect puts the student club on equal footing with the school’s College Republicans.

Both groups, along with any other political clubs on campus, now are recognized under the new policy as unofficial clubs.

From this story it sounds like Diaz could not take the rebuke from the club member and decides to transfer. What was that favorite dem saying, "if you cannot take the heat stay out of the kitchen."

So basically Diaz lied completely about everything. He's a typical politician. I won't miss him at all.
