Please please please let that happen. I would pay to watch that.

I was thinking more of a UFC-type deal.

Driscoll is incredibly smart and talented, doing huge things for the Kingdom, and a great preacher/teacher. But he is Reformed, which the school is not in tune with (not saying that's a bad thing on either side), and he at times says very inappropriate things when preaching.

He is the pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle. Yes he has a reputation from time to time as a pottymouth.

But he also is a visionary guy doing amazing things in a city that many deemed unreachable just a decade ago.

I have his book 'Vintage Church' on my list of books to read this year.

I am in no way trying to start a fight but how is he a pottymouth? I like that he is changing the face of the Reformed movement at least in my eyes. I don't agree with him on some things but he is doing great work for the Kingdom. Again not trying to start a fight just wanted clarification

I dont think its so much as a pottymouth in that he swears all the time in his sermons, but rather is knows the culture he is trying to reach and fits in with them, and he presents the bible in a way that your typical seattlite might understand, without watering it down. Like his books, Vintage Jesus and Vintage Church are basically doctrinal books present so that someone who has never seen the bible would understand it.

And im allowed to say your typical seattlite because I grew up mostly in seattle, and both my brothers are in ministry out there.

It doesnt help that some of his theology is off as well. Plus wasn't he the guy who called Piper an a** then invited him to have coffee with a bunch of other church leaders and Piper went and asked him do you call everyone an a** before you have coffee with them?

I think he is one of the guys who doesn't believe in inerrancy of scripture, and he thinks the christian life is a mystery and should be left that way as well

ended up finding this piece on him: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/200 ... -52.0.html

I can identify with this man
The major blind spot of megachurches is that they tend to be very effeminate with aesthetics, music, and preaching perfectly tailored for moms. Manly men are repelled by this, and many of the men who find it appealing are the types to sing prom songs to Jesus and learn about their feelings while sitting in a seafoam green chair drinking herbal tea—the spiritual equivalent of Richard Simmons. A friend of mine calls them "evangellyfish" with no spiritual vertebrae.

He believes in the inerrancy of Scripture, and him and Piper are best buds now, Piper is pretty much now his mentor.

I would in no way categorize him as Emergent, he's actually very anti-Emergent Church.

John MacArthur, Phil Johnson, John Piper, etc have all admonished/reproached Driscoll about his speech and the things that he says from the pulpit, most recently because of his Song of Solomon series ("The Peasant Princess"). MacArthur has actually gone after him a couple times. Piper's really the only one he seems to listen to, though.

But, on the same note, he writes some great books, really knows his stuff, and started the Acts 29 church-planting network, which has planted tons of strong, Biblically-sound churches nationwide and now globally.

my bad i was thinking of McLaren haha, though i still think he is at least a little emergent, i mean i dont think Donald Miller is emergent but Miller writes some stuff that can be construed as emergent, same with Driscoll. I would have to look into him more to be completely accurate about him

Driscoll is not emergent.
He was at one time, he has since seperated himself from the movement

like i said with the whole Miller thing, he may not be emergent and says he is not, but still has some stuff that could be construed as emergent

haha how do you get Mclaren and Driscoll confused, totally different. Mclaren practically started the whole emergent thing, and Donaly Miller pretty much is. More Locally, has anyone read anything/heard anything by Vince Dantonucci out of Virginia Beach

and his series mentioned above about song of solomon, the Peasant Princess, is legit. This is one of the 4 or 5 guys that does the Song of Solomon Conference tour, his Buddy Matt Chandler is the speaker who did it when it was at Liberty two years ago.
