Wanted to post this early...

A few of the parents have gotten together and organized a bus trip for the West Virginia Game. Here are the details:

There will be buses leaving from both Charlottesville and Orange, VA. The cost to ride the bus is $45 per person, or you can pay $100 for a full package that includes the bus fare, game ticket, and pre-game meal (flames club tent).

Here's how the price breaks down:

$45- bus fare
$45- game ticket
$10- pre-game meal
Total= $100

A payment of $45 to ride the bus is due once you put your name on the list and is non-refundable. If you would like to also purchase your game ticket and the pre-game meal, the remaining balance is due by August 1st. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you the contact info or feel free to post questions in this thread.

Thanks, Flamingchick. I hope to go to the game, so I will consider this option.

I hope someone will organize one or more buses leaving from Lynchburg. I would do that. Much easier than driving and the price is right. It's not my idea of convenient to drive over an hour to C'ville, park, go to the game on the bus and then repeat in reverse on the way back. I'd probably opt to just drive up, especially if I could carpool to share expenses and driving duties. Orange makes no sense at all unless you live near there. Hopefully Asa's family can recruit a good group from the area to share the costs.

I think I got an e-mail from the Flames Club a few weeks ago about them having a bus headed to the game. Of course the bus would be leaving from the 'burg so there's another option for those in Lynchburg.

I don't know if I'm going to go yet. I really want to, but would like to carpool with a few people.

Just curious- why Charlottesville and Orange. Are their Flames supporters in C-ville??

Asa Chapman is from Orange and Mike Brown is from C'ville. Pretty good bet it was their families who set this up. I hope they can get enough to go so noone has to take too big a hit in the pocketbook. I've organized a few bus tours in my day, and unless they got a really good deal, they will need a pretty full bus for $45 per person to cover the bill.

Im sure there are ways to get word about this out to the students. I mean we're starting to get to the point where we travel pretty well for road athletic contests. Maybe somebody ought to alert JB and se if he can help get the word out or something

Yep, actually, there will likely be both LU and WVU fans on the buses. Asa is from Orange and Mike is from Charlottesville and their parents are putting the trip together. In addition to that, Asa's former teammate from Orange, Bradley Starks is now QB/WR for WVU. Bradley and Mike were the same year in High School and went head to head for 4 years as the starting QBs for their respective schools in the Jefferson District. It's always nice when hometown guys meet again on the field in college.

A bus from the 'Burg would be great! It will be nice to have some students there in the crowd to help us cheer :cheerleader

I prefer to notice the girl in her 20's who is cheering and loud as opposed to the 14 year old.

If you're there, good luck! Opposing fans are placed very near student section. These aren't SJ students. They will come prepared with likely the worst you've ever heard, and then some. They care none for opposing fans, and are embarassingly hateful. Stories abound in the annals of Internet lore of the things said and objects thrown upon opposing fans at Milan Puskar Stadium. Only fans worse, that I've expeirenced, are U. of Maryland.

Oh, and you likely WON'T be heard, no matter how loud you think you are. LU's 3-5k vs. WVU's 60k. Ugly odds...

I'll be there, "on the fence." Just sayin'

I read in one of my books about how bad the fans at MD are. It's crazy! I mean, it's one thing to like your team but it's another to cuss at the team you are playing.

They cuss and say vulgar things but they do not physically assualt you so I think WVU fans take the worse category.

Seen it happen. One famous story is the hurling of trash CANS (emphasis, not just trash, but the cans) at opposing coaches years ago.

That's what I meant. The fans at WVU have thrown batteries at opposing fans.

...trash cans at coaches.

...rocked an ambulance trying to take an opposing player to the hospital after an on-field injury.

...thrown oranges at Syracuse fans (points for creativity).

...countless times have thrown alcohol on opposing fans, own fans, friends, family, etc. Ha!

I know when Va. Tech was in the Big East, Beamer told all the players to keep thier helmets on while on the sideline the entire game at WVU due to items being thrown, including batteries. Tough place to play. Win or lose a couch will be burned.

Beamer/VaTech: true story .. VERY tough place to play, can be very loud, but prob won't be for the Noon start for LU .. "A burning couch is a happy couch!"
